I've been working with the most excellent Silent Editor for a while now trying to make the different cameras... more interesting for lack of a better word.
So far i've managed to recreate the FreeCam effect for the ConningDeck cam that has been out there for a while and fine tuned it to my liking without much trouble.
i've been messing with the binoc view and the uzo view as well and reduced the clipping range so you will *have* to walk around the conning tower to get a clear 360 view which imho felt somewhat strange before having the whole sub disappear whenever you put on he binoculars :)
now i'm trying to get that pitching and bobbing movement one can see when inside the sub. I've been trying to clone and adjust the "MechShocksPendulum" bit for that and been partially successful... unfortunately it seems the default orientation of movement of that particular controller is not left and right but forward and back, making the view pitch down when making a turn to the right and up to the left.
i tried creating a sub-node and working with the rotation parameters there but so far no luck: while i did manage to get the pendulum to "swing" left and right, it also messed up all the movement controls so you ended up stumbeling (sp?) over the deck like a drunk :D and while trying to look up or down you end up just twisting the view around the centre.
one other thing i tried doing is enabling freemove inside the sub by default. unfortunately it seems just adding a freemove node doesn't do the trick here. somehow the controls are all jumbled up there as well and i have not been able to remedy this, either.
if anybody has any experience modifying the camera.dat or has otherwise ideas or suggestions please discuss. general tips on how to make best use of the editor are welcome as well.
