I have made new textures for the enviroment in SH4 and LeoVampire has modified the ocean to make it look and feel more like a real ocean. (see screenshots)
This mod is a joint effort with LeoVampire to make the experience of actualy being on a uboat in the pacific as near to real life as possible.

Oh S**T that aught to be cool just hope it isn't as loud as the old sea gulls sound.
But a question about the sea foam. Is it yours or Seeadler's? If it is yours did you make the textures large so there is less of a repeat pattern when looking at it from a higher altitude?

@Leo The sea-foam is from Seeadlers great enviroment mod, I have tried to make the sea look shiny when it's calm and the opposit when it's windy.
@Wilhelm. it's from a old mod I did on SH3, the files are the same: "Collision_ship" and "P06_#Splinter_explosion"

Yes, teamwork is a timesaver, but I only edited the textures which makes the water, check your PM in 15 min ;)

You can do that, the mod comes with both 8km and 16km versions of the visibility mods. included with LBO :)

LBO scene.dat file overlays your scene.dat file...is this okay as well?

He was wondering if the ocean color could be changed to a Richer Blue to a real Blue Blue color?!
Maybe see if you can find some photo's of the Pacific that show some good coloring of the ocean.
I havn't a clue how to work with or do that stuff so thought I would run it byt you seeing you like working with textures and coloring.

Okay today I have edited the watercolours and reflectionmap :p And I hope the colour is more pacific blue now ? (see first page)

LOL yes you are right :rotfl: I mean crew on the ship!, but it does add alot to the game when you are doing a night attack and can hear the screams :arrgh!: from a far distance... Thanks.

in the new texture packs you sent me. You know how there are only 7 of each item for the sky but in the Scene.dat file there are actualy a total of 13 so is it possable to add the extra textures to accomidate what is available for the sky and not being used? It would create a much more realistic effect for the game and a hell of a lot better lighting and over all colors effect.

Getting closer to the colour of the pacific ocean using the above photo, this one was taken at midway 5.40 in the morning with 4xAA and Anist. to x16

with JakeToox's latest tweek file for the scene.dat
If you look at the drop down's there are a total of 13 sky settings for angles but if you look in the ENV folder in the files there they only deal with the 7 color chart's for the sky pac and so forth so that means they are being reused to produce the other set's of colors and lighting for when the sun rises and set's instead of each having there own set for each angle of the sun going up and comming down.

Thank goodness for the new bubbles, its the one thing that every time I look at it....Grumblegrumble..what were the devs thinking....grumble:stare:

Prop underwater turbulance effect I think it looks pretty good no more buble effect looks more like turbulance in the water instead.

Seems like you are a popular guy these days LOL!! Going to need an autograph book. BTW Kriller the new sky texture work you sent me with the repairs you made looks a lot better now thanks.
It is a toss up for me which one's I like the best the newest one or the one with the distant cloud view always being present on the horizon. I like that one because it enhances the sunset work I did a lot more but there seems to be less lighting when the sun is higher in the sky.
I should have a decision for you today on which I like the best and I am sure the testers will let you know what they think one way or the other.

Digital Trucker numbered each of the files for the sea foam that would be visable in his game to see each texture in the game how they work and where they show up when. Aparently just one texture is used for the entire surface of the ocean then the others play over the top of that 1 texture end result the quilt work effect.
So this is where the problem is comming into play in the distance shots with the camera view's and sea foam patch texture problems.
Time to see if there is a file in the game that can be adjusted to fix this that is a master control for the sea foam textures.
But thanks to Digital Truckers inovated idea in localizing it we now have a better place to start looking for a fix.

the fog is back in the game the way it should be and has made a well blended sky line effect so the sunset's and sun rises and lighting changes are a lot smoother.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the super feedback ! This mod started out as an idea for making just one mod which should contain as much eyecandy as possible and suddenly the mod grow to something bigger than even I could ever have imagined! with help from LeoVampire and Sergbuto and l3th4l (thanks for all your hard work everyone!)
Now I just have to make a brighter night version then I will release the mod in next week.

The moon is the original stock SH4-moon modified in photoshop, then Leo made some changes to the scene.dat to make the moon smaller.

so the solar and lunar eclips would work properly. And due to some date I found the celestial objects in the game all move perfectly thanks to data Bill Nichols found for me to view on some of the game's internal data workings.

I finaly got the hollywood mod from SH3 to work with SH4 so expect flying crew when a ship explodes! :p
All credits go to gouldjg for the original mod from SH3.
Some info about the mod: "Reflections on the water"
- The mod will be a 111 mb and you only need to download 1 file. The file will contain all of the mods we have worked on:
- Bright og Realistic sky
- Choose between 2 1-person camera mods - one realistic where you can't see through the sub with the uzo and binocular and you only can view 80 degrees and one with arcade mode, like stock SH4 where you can view 180 degrees and see through the sub.
- Enhanced reflections on all objects in the game, sub, harbour, water.
- Enhanced effects all around, new sea-textures, clouds, water, lightning
- Hollywood mod with flying crew in the air and you can hear them scream
- New better landscape-textures without tiling and blue cranes
- New sun and moon reflections

Personally, I do not think that the possibility to view 360 degrees with TBT is arcade at all. In RL, US subs had two 360-degree-rotatable TBTs in the front and aft of the bridge, respectively. Therefore, the game correctly simulates the ability of the crew to survey all 360 degrees with the help of TBTs.

Thats something that occured to me. If you cut out the ability to see 360deg with the TBT then how are you going to track targets to stern?
Add another TBT at the back of the bridge maybe?
