Just wondering if it would be possible to combine the SubSchool tutorials in SHIV and the New Construction feature that Ducimus has in his TM mod? It would be pretty neat to go through SubSchool and work towards a new command while doing it. If I knew what to do, I would attempt it, but I have no clue where to begin.

To be part of the campaign, it needs to be part of the campaign, not in the subschool folder.
That said, an expanded version of New Construction would be VERY cool (that is a gem in a crown of gems in TM, frankly---kudos to ducimus---seriously, if you haven't messed with the stuff he did with NC and the patrols... its a TON of not terribly rewarding effort).
It would be fun to have a pre-war sub school. Set on the east coast (always the chance of meeting the odd u-boat!) to start. Normal stuff, then TDC stuff, then sonar shooting from 100 feet deep (USN doctrine prewar). Transfer to PH or Asiatic Fleet. Have a fleet excercise---a chance to actually see some US hardware.
Clone the US stuff into an "aggressor squadron" like group to prosecute you---really drive home that being anywhere near the surface is BAD before you face the japanese. Try and get in the mindset of captains December 8th in RL.

So when do you think you can have all this ready?

Even cooler - in my opinion - would be to integrate it into the new boat assignment for successful skippers thing.
Instead of just popping straight into a new boat when it's offered, it would be cool if the player was whisked back to Groton for 3 or 4 training missions in the new boat, then told to set sail for the canal and on to Pearl.
Meanwhile, as all this is going on, a year or so would pass, reflecting the real world way experienced, successful, but still young skippers were used (after the war bond tours) to put new boats with mostly green crews into comission, then recycled back into the fray for one last hurrah.

I thought about this before, using Berry's version of a similar mod, but i concluded that it would be a logistical nightmare.
Scripting the submarine school missions into the campaign, albiet time consuming, isn't a problem. Creating/ stationing the player at Groton isnt a problem.
Problem 1:
Forcing a new command from S boats to Gato's. I dont know if this is possible. Im not sure what criteria has to be met in order for the game to offer a new command.
Problem 2:
Career Time frame. A single mission ends up taking the place of a 30-45 day patrol. If you consider 5 subschool missions, plus 3 sea trials, youve spent a better part of a year in putting around outside a harbor. Theres no way im aware of to limit this time frame. And if your doing all this at 0 tons, sunk, i have to wonder if the game would retire you or not.
Problem 3:
Assuming getting transfers while at sea to work correctly like i orginaly wanted to, you have this little problem called the "Panama Canal".
Now all that aside it is possible, but you'll more then likey end up doing the entire thing in one boat, and have it take around 7-8 months game time to complete.

Like I said, it was just a thought. Thanks for spelling out the logistics of it for me, Ducimus.

Beleive me, when i made that new construction idea, i thought long and hard about it. yeah it can be done, but i dont think it would work out quite how we'd like it to.
