What will happen to the GWX devs after the final release comes out? Will some quit modding alltogether, will some move on to SHIV, or will others go into withdrawl symtyoms? Who knows for each dev must chose there own path in life.
But I hope they move on the SHIV. :D Please?

Well Kpt said that this is most likely the final release version of the mod so i Guess they will just move away.

it IS the final version thats why I posted this.
Well I do think they deserve a break, do you know any other team that kept at it for so long and with such dedication?? :yep:
Who knows, I do know that there are very talented modders hard at work on SH4...we just don't have any real supermod yet. TM is probably the closest but that is just one guy (though Ducimus has put a lot of work into it).

Speaking only for myself, I think I'll stick with GWX for quite some time ;)
Well I cant speak for the rest of the team, but I intend to enjoy the fruits of out labours and just PLAY THE DAMN THING! :rotfl:
I think it was Bigboywooly who said he has only played 2 patrols (for fun) since work on GWX 1.01 was started.
My only hope is SH4 will be more mod friendly than SH3 and be better patched up. As for now i can see the majority ( if not all ) of the guys staying with SH3 GWX 1.04

I was under the impression that it is, I think it just needs the right people to start playing around with it guts - still early days for SH4, Im not even sure if 1.03 is the final patch or not. I sincerely doubt it will get an official expansion though.

Well there's been a dscussion from the first day to port SH4 to the Atlantic Theatre. Maybe some SH4 GWX reloaded ;-)
I believe GWX team will make GWX1.5 someday. They have o lot of good
game concepts which can only erupted in new big supermod...
I have SH4 but...for me this game is just the game nothing more - there is
no power of SH3 + GWX...;)

My prediction is (for some anyway).....after two painstaking years of non stop work, they'll take control of some quality elements in their personal lives again :arrgh!:

Exacly  . Don`t forget that some users from the GWX team have family or girlfriend :) ;)

One or two may have both :rotfl:
GWX official work may end with 1.04 update but I think
there will likely be supplemental work but modders both
GWX dev guys and otherwise probably.
Evolution is a process without a final product.

Exactly! Nothing is ever finished. It can always be improved in some form or another.

Thats good to here, I personally have shelved SH4 for the time being -as it stands there is more to see and do in SH3 (witht he current offerings from the modding community) maybe in a year from now WILL return to the pacific - at least i hope so. :yep:
After Ive played GWX 1.04 to death I will probably need a break from submarines anyway.

Yeah, I am enjoying SH4 ( it still has a ways to go, but it is getting there ), also looking forward to the latest GWX :yep:

The 5 things that'll happen after the team has finished 1.04:
1. They take a good sleep
2. They relax, push modding out of their minds
3. Go back to the normal day routines
4. Play GWX 1.04 and enjoy it.....
5. ...untill Kpt comes up: "Guys... I really dont like that and I hate to see this missing. Gentlemen, start your engines! 1.05 here we come!"
:p
Juuust kidding!
I think most of the team will just enjoy the GWX, some will quit modding alltogether, some will stick around either as a freelance modder or they start their own team or who knows, carry on with the GWX. Future is still kinda misty. Time will tell. ;)

Hmm let me gaze into the future.
GWX Devs finish 1.04, They take a few months off to get there lives back in order and play there baby for a bit.
Then news comes in from afar that Ubi has dumped the Silent Hunter Franchise and is willing to sell the copyrights and SDK codes for the fanchise. The GWX team set in motion a fundraising operation so they can buy the rights. After some major fundrasing inculding The Kapt cycling around the USA from Navy base to Navy base and Ref and Pablo walking From one end of The Andes Mountain range to the other in speicaly brought Keigrmerine U-Boat Commanders outfits. And BBW and Danlisa running from Scapa Flow to Dover in fansy dress as a type IID . They finaly got together the money to buy the copyrights and SDK.

What will happen to the Devs after 1.04...? with any luck, people will queue up and give them a warm and heartfelt thanks, to the whole team, for all they have done for Silent Hunter III and the community, AND, respect their right to get some well earned shore leave instead of nagging them persistently for more goodies.
If, at a later date there comes another patch 1.05... cool. If there is not a 1.05, we should be thankful for all we have regardless, because it seems that GWX frankly pushes the game for all its worth without that source code thing or whatever, I don't pretend to fully understand. If the team decides to do a few extra little snippets that can be JSGME'd in on top of 1.04 then that'll be cool for all of us. But, gentlemen, let them have their break, they need to go home.:yep:

good question. what will they do ? :hmm:
if they realy stop modding GWX and play the damn thing... who's gonna give us the manny eye candy they did ? :hmm:
and what IF Ubi releases the SDK ?
would they start again ? would they leave it for someone else ? :hmm:

Sorry Pen....missed this earlier :damn:
Right on the nail :yep:
I can only say, when i left GWX i am glad to play the mod instead of doing research and/or testing it. Maybe later down the line yes maybe a mod for SH4 or even 1.05 for SH3 but they all deserve a huge thank you and some well earned rest and enjoy the damned game

If we wait for that we'll never make any mod for sh3.
Even if UBI release the SDK, we're now at a point that it won't make any difference, there are only a few things we can't model at this time that could benefit from having an SDK, and it's only a matter of time that even those unknowns are identified, most people confuses the SDK with the source code, the SDK is a set of tools that facilitates the modding/creation of data files, it doesn't provide the ability to add for example controllers for AI torpedoes, AI submarines, or new commands or change the AI behaviour, those things are hardcoded and the only way to change them is to rewrite/create new routines and recompile the executable and libraries.
And most important, we're nearly maxing out the possibilities of the game engine, we're struggling to optimize all the new stuff in 1.04 to minimize the impact in FPS/loading times in that aspect SH4 will be a more suitable platform to continue modding, please take note that I'm not saying that GW team will start working on SH4, just that the engine and new routines are more optimized to add units/campaign changes.
In my case I'll take a time to rest and enjoy what we have achieved, these two years with GW have allowed me to make some good friends all over the world (the most important thing to me), but at the same time hard and demanding work, even stressfull at some times, so I think we all deserve a "mod free" time off.

The problem I see is this: IF they play the game long enough they're going to find some mistakes they missed, and if they play it even longer then somewhere down the line someone is going to say "You know, guys, we could have done this as well...":rotfl:

T'would be nice if people realised that the fabled SDK is not the panacea to all SH3 problems, like wolfpacks, fully behaved AI subs etc. There's certainly a misunderstanding and incorrect belief in this community that SDK = wolfpacks. It's not gonna happen without the source code guys...and I reckon I'll be long gone off this planet before that's released. ;)
I agree with Ref, I think the community has developed most of the tools that the SDK would provide anyway. I don't think the SDK would provide much more (and remember, there's more tools "behind the scenes" than just the ones already out there - I've developed at least eighteen tools to facilitate easier modification and error identification of SH3 campaign and related files which are shared amongst modders on a needs basis).
Although, if UBI chose to release the technical specs, I think they *would* help modellers by a) adding the missing pieces to the content of some of the files - no more guess work, and b) explaining some of the design decisions taken.
And most important, we're nearly maxing out the possibilities of the game engine, we're struggling to optimize all the new stuff in 1.04 to minimize the impact in FPS/loading times...
And I'm still not convinced that there isn't a hardcoded limit to random ship selection, like there seems to be for skins. Would be pointless if there's 50 type "x" ships but SH3 only selects from 10 of them.
For me, life after retiring from GWX 1.04 development last month was the birth of my gorgeous daughter a few weeks ago. ;) Any modding for me now is indeed a very low priority.

Congrats, and sharp shooting. ;)
I will keep with the GWX 1.4, and on SHII Moding for a long time I guess!
First cause I do love the game, secound cause it's God Damn fun to make the Graphics, third cause I do bellieve that a related German Atlantic U-Boat war
game will not be released for a long time again....
SHIII is some how at the first look finished or with litle left for modding but I really
don't think so, in fact I think it's a huge mistake to compare the recent SH4 with SHIII cause they are 2 totaly diferent war sceneries, German U-boats is SHIII in any Sim game, and the best untill the date, I guess we will be a lot older before some other company realises that a new game with better graphic engine and a
lot more refined in the overall content of the u-boat and the Atlantic war would
be a perfect option on this moment, for many reazons but the most importante is that SHIII is very alive and "Famouse" still today, would be a very smart move
and with a huge impact if they anouced now a new U-Boat Sim...
I will keep with it any way, first cause with the huge and amazing perfect work from the Grey Wolves team, we can finaly enjoy the game the way it was suposed to be released in the begining!
Then we will see!
I will remain U-Boat SHIII fan and Modder!:yep:

Modding this game does not depend on GWX. They did an awesome job  but they aren't the reason people mod this game. I'll continue modding until I get tired of it because I like to, not because of GWX. :yep:
