Hello everyone!
I've been using SH3Gen for a few days now, and have a question about ship location. So far I haven't had any luck finding a ship that has been marked on the map. For a test run I set intelligence to 100% and the same for reliability. When I go to a marked spot, I sail around above and submerge and I don't find anything. I do understand that the ship might not be at that exact location. So how exactly am I to find these ships, am I to sail around that spot for a longer time, return to that spot multiple times? Any help would be great!

If I recall correctly sh3 gen is an ambience thing

what I use is spysat in my case for gwx1.03 as it takes
data from the game.

I think gen just creates a type of signal exercise ambience
for lack of a better description.

Mush Martin is right, better use GWX Spy sat 1.03. But... remember it's realism killer. By the way SH3 gen shows correct ships position in time when you're making an inteligence raport. All ships that move at this time, move away- that's all. Only ships that are idlle stay on their possitions. For example ships at harbours. Try to destroy those in the harbours because intercepting moving ships is hard due to lack of information about their real course. ;)

Sorry but thats nonsense. Spysat raises the rpp value of all units to 100% - an absolute realism killer imo - whereas Sh3Gen is an advanced campaign interpreter that gives you exactly the kind of information that real commanders were given. If I had wanted to do another Spysat mod I would have been finished after one weekend.

All Sh3Gen information (except the standing orders and ship names) comes from SHIII's campaign files as many people can testify who sunk moored Battleships and Carriers with this information.

The information is previous ship sightings (U-boat, Luftwaffe or B-Dienst information), and it comes very handy when planning your course to the most lucrative / unprotected hunting places.

With the GIS module you can also generate even more detailed maps and open them with a GIS viewer, which is an absolute novum for any wargame / sim. These maps contain additional information that cannot be displayed in SHIII like traffic concentrations, target nationalities, reliability of information. [ Read More .. (http://www.global-explorer.de/contentpage_tracking_room.htm)]

In WWII, no mortal man could give you in advance exact locations where to find enemy vessels, they couldnt even do this for their own ships. All they could tell you was suspected traffic hotspots and where ships were sunk / sighted.

You must also learn to read the signatures, especially the small signs before and after the map marker.

My own issue with it was that I used an early version that didnt seem
to do more than stated above so take it as an impression of a developmental product because the externals came after and I barely get to play now so
that stuff seemed to cumbersome for me and threw me off of it. That being
the case its further developments were not something I followed further, No disrespect to your mod or you users was intended.

I havent used the latest versions due to work on GWX but found the earlier ones very cool
Informative without overkill as in a spysat

even though I have trouble finding ships out at sea that ar marked, I do like intel have what is at harbor. I probably wont use spysat, but play more around with SH3Gen and see if I can get the hang of it.

The harbour info is usually very reliable but with GWX it has become very dangerous to go there.

No problem. Btw I would agree now that it is cumbersome - and I certainly wouldnt do that type of mod again, but it was a challenge.

There were times when using SH3 Gen that if you were close enough you could possibly run across one of the ship marked with it. I've done that a couple of times seeing they were very close by and I could figure out their course for an intercept. But since my HDD crash I haven't installed it again. And, I didn't know there was a SH3 Gen for GWX. Anyone got a download link to it for GWX?

There is no special version for GWX because its compatible with any clean campaign mod. Only really mesy mods with broken references in the .mis files can cause problems. GWX 1.02 and 1.03 are certainly working with it.

Follow the link in my sig for the most recent version.

For the future I am also planning to release a set of GIS maps for GWX that anyone can use without Sh3Gen. What I want to do is one map per month of the war.
