I have a few questions concerning the modification of a ship in the sim:
1) I want to reduce the top speed from 35 to 26 knots. Is it sufficient to alter the speed in the .cfg file, or do I need to alter another file in some way? If so, which and how?
2) As part of the modification programme I have deleted the fore funnel file (cos01.obj) from the .dat file, as well as the reflect_cos01.obj file. However, after doing so I checked the modified vessel in a newly made single mission and the "deleted" funnel has obstinately remained in place (as well as remeining in place when viewing in "Museum"). Is there another file to be deleted as well? Armament changes have worked perfectly.

Not sure about #2, that stuff gets tricky.

As for #1, you need to also change the .sim file. I think the cfg determings the speed in the mision editor, and in "abstractmovement" mode, but not in 3d rendered mode.

Thanks, Tater. I just had a look at the .sim file with a hex editor and this looks tricky as well, not just question 2:damn:. I thought I had changed all the file names for the new ship type, but clearly not- the original ship type's name appears in the hex editor view as well. Wonder if I have to change these references to the original ship type as well- perhaps this has something to do with the "removed" funnel still being in place, because of a sort of cross-reference to the existing original ship type? In any case this looks to be far from the "simple mod" I thought it would be. Oh well, one is never too old to learn:hmm:
