This was set by Otto Kretschmer for a grand total of 272.282 tonnage sunk with a total of 46 ships sunk. You have until 1944 to try to beat this record. Good luck trying to sink anything in '45 if you don't get sunk first. But if you do beat this record leave your name, rank, total tonnage, total ships sunk, your U-Boats number, and what type. Good Luck to all!!!:arrgh!: Edit: Ok so now I'm changing the rules. You now have until March 18, 1941 at midnight which is one full day and half the night after Kretschmer was captured and for the realism settings have to be between 80% to 100% and manual targeting HAS TO BE ON!!!!! As for duds, outside views, "gods eye" map update I don't really care about those. Any, I repeat ANY ship sunk past the date, time, and realism settings WILL NOT COUNT.That goes for ramming a ship.

Some people have twice that much tonnage sunk before the end of 40 :rotfl:

not a bad idea... but players are held to what standard?

100% realism, 50% realsim? 25% realism?

If a player using external cam, auto targeting, fast reloads etc sinks 300,000 tons, who cares how it compares to real life results?

Of course we all played on low realism before, how else do you get good at the game???

but the real challenge comes when you hold yourself to the same restraints that real life crews faced as much as is possible in the game. (no external view, no map contact updates, manual targeting etc)

i think that before you get a bunch of guys posting how they sink 100K tons before lunch time on their first patrol out in 1939 we need to hold a standard of some sort

perhaps a tonnage record per year on various realism settings?

Not quite, I started out at 90%, only turned manual targetting off and am still doing so because manual targetting is IMO too realistic because you have to do everything yourself, whereas IRL a Kaleun would have his officers and crew to assist in the calculations from the data gathered,
I now also use external camera for screenies and admittedly sometimes use it to find out where escorts are in relation to my boat, but I try to avoid doing so :D

I've repeatedly beaten Kretschmers record, especially in the stock game, it's gotten harder with GWX but still doable, you just need to know where to go for the big hauls, and it ain't the US eastern seaboard, where Kretschmer went to get most of his score. so if you stick to the areas Kretschmer sunk his ships, it might actually be quite difficult.

I might try that sometime, would be interesting to see if it could be done...

I rarely get more than 250k in 12 patrols.

Or alternatively, and I mean this in total seriousness, we could just not bother, its just a game.... Even if you played on 150% realism, this is a game and will NEVER even come close to comparing to real life and what the real German submariners faced.

I say amen to that, Penny.
There are a number of factors that differ greatly from reality. Though, we do have our heart-pounding moments, the fear factor in game is nothing compared to RL. The number of contacts is also greater. Anyway, comparing ourselves to real U-boat commanders is simply not practical as the measuring criteria is impossible.
