View Full Version : Damagemodel: fuel

I had a run in with some destroyers in thick fog. They managed to hit me twice with guns before I could dive deep. On my way back to base, I noticed I could only get 3800 km out of my diesel. I'm using a Gato with 60% fuel in the tanks. My fuel is not leaking (no lessening of fuel when under water), so what gives?

I also can't see anything like "fuel tanks" in damagecontrol. I had minor damage to my diesels from the shelling. I'm now stuck between Iwo and Midway with empty tanks and batteries:down: . Any pointers? Is damagemodel capable of showing leaking tanks and/or grossly overusing diesel after damage. And offcourse, everything was repaired, just not "repaired"...

When things were damaged and then "repaired" while on patrol, they are not "good as new." I speculate that while your engines are repaired, their efficiency is greatly reduced and that's why you aren't getting the same distance out of them.

It's the same as when your pressure hull and bulkheads are damaged, and then repaired. Even though they are "repaired", they are not as good as they were before and your crush depth has been compromised. All you can do is be as efficient as possible and hope it is enough to get home.

The only way to completely repair something is going to your home port. Other than that, it's only a field job.

Check to make sure your propulsion mode is in "Standard" and not "Recharge." It's easy for the batteries to get 1% or so damage so they never fully charge (or do so really really late) and so you're running around in Rechard mode a lot which eats up the gas.

That'll be the problem if the batteries have slight damage.

Ya, if your batteries don't charge to 100 % the game never kicks it off of recharge mode, thus extra revs of the engines are wasted trying to charge what can't be charged. Just have to turn it off manually. If that's the problem.

Ok, this might be it, I'll verify from a savegame where I still have some fuel left (60% full tanks) and NOT recharge the batteries. But still, 60% tanks at 2/3 speed should give at least 10.000 km range. Can recharging have such an impact that it drops down to 3000?

Since I'm in february 1942, based in Pearl but currently of Formosa, I'm screwed if this don't work. I want milchkühe!:hmm:

During recharging, engines run at flank speed. You'll notice range during recharge & range @ flank are usually similar.

It would be the ultimate mod that could point out repaired but still compromised parts, for instance by displaying them yellow in the damagescreen after repairing. Now I honestly don't know if my batteries had been damaged, or my diesels, or my tanks are leaking, even if they aren't even present in the screen.

Noted. I'll try when back home and post my findings here. Hope to make it to Midway!

You should be able to make it back: just manually turn off battery recharging. It's the battery icon on the first command card. 60% fuel should allow for a range of about 18.000 km (~10.000nm) for a fleet boat. This is assuming a cruise speed of 10 knots (not 2/3 which is slightly slower than that).

Hi guys!

You were right. My batteries can only be charged to 98% due to "repaired" damage. This leaves the engines in recharge mode, leaving my projected range with 71% diesel in the tanks a mere 3800 km. When shutting down recharge, I can do almost 19000 km.

Thanx for all the help!
