Every once and a while I come across a minesweeper or destroyer that has super sonar, and what is worse, unlimited depth charges. Ok, I could handle both of those, but only if their keel wasnt just 1 foot under water. Can't break contact, they dont run out of ammo, and you cannot sink them because the torpedoes wont hit, they just run underneath the ships...
Possible to make torpedoes skip across the surface like in SH3? Maybe with a mod or somthing?

That my friend would be a sub chaser.
Best course of action is evasion.

I use the deck gun against the subchasers :arrgh!:

I accidentally sunk one of those sub chasers in a game a few days ago. I was aiming for a merchant when I suddenly spotted a warship coming straight for me. He must have gone into the path of one of my torpedoes. I had fired a spread of 4 with different settings (magnetic, contact, shallow, deep) I assume it's the shallow magnetic torpedo that got him :)

surface under that douchebag and show him the meaning of a 44" deck cannon.

Ah the periscope ram, a much underrated tactic of World War II sub command!!

Aye, ran into a pesty minesweeper yesterday in a narrow straight shallow water head'n for Java sea.He wouldn't let go, kept circl'n me like a vulture, surfaced me boat and let my gunner have a go at em, blew his arse right out of the water , without a scratch on my Sugar boat

I didn't say ram. I said surface while underneith him. If you're moving, you will surface right next to him with your deck gun (if in rear) facing him, and you'll get a shot off before he does.

Try to stay behind the Subchaser when using your deck gun.
His only gun is in the front so he has to turn to bring it to bear...

Sugar boats can carry a 44" ?
The EZ mode surface battles in the stock game would be much harder if the crew was actually hurt by all the AAA.
About a week ago I had a little "disagreement" with a subchaser. And he pounded my butt righteously with dc's. Thought I was a goner so I battle surfaced even though I only had 6 rounds of 4" left. Since I always let my crew do the gunning I figured it was curtains for my fearless crew (who at this point were screaming, shouting, donning life vests etc). The second round I fired took out his deck gun and the others all slammed into the water line (as I had ordered). I out-ran him and got away.
When back in Perth the crew was once again fearless.
That was one of those situations that makes you say "Whew".
Cheers!

Most of the time, this works, but like I said, occasionally, they have super sonar and it doesnt matter what I do, they are on me like white on rice. Can't hit a thing with their charges, but I cannot escape. I'll have to gun them down from now on.

He meant the boat itself I believe, aluding to the fact you can let DDs ram you and watch them explode, it's highly amusing if somewhat unrealistic.

I was stuck in a similar situation recently with a subchaser. I was completely out of torpedoes and trying to make my way back out to open sea from the inlet between Kyushu and Honshu (I know, I know, it was simply inexcusable for me not to have saved a couple of torpedoes for defensive purposes). I was trying to creep by the subchaser, who was just creeping along in front of a deep spot in the shallow bay. I was hoping to get by the ship and get down low, and wait for the next night to finish my escape.
When I was about 2000 meters to his left and thinking I was home clear, somebody must have dropped a wrench or something. Despite silently running at ahead 1/3, I was definitely detected.
Every time the ship closed to within 200 meters or so, I would gun up the engines to flank and zag against the ship's current course. The bottom was just deep enough for periscope and no more, so it was intense. After literally an hour and a half of zagging and flanking, then silent running, I finally made it to where I could tell I could get to the edge of the deep spot within the next couple of depth charge runs. I had minor damage to exterior guns, so I was in pretty good shape. As I heard the ship approach again proving it had obviously already detected me, I gunned the engines again and peeked up the periscope to decide to break left or right.
As the ship began to depth charge a good ways ahead of my position, it turned hard right in what I guess was an attempt to have it's new course arc around and cross my new heading. Well, he caught a piece of his own depth charge, and caught fire. His speed dropped to nothing, and soon he was just a little flaming blob in the dusky light. I actually saw him sink after I had gotten a safe distance away to take a good look. Didn't get credit for it though.
So I guess my advice is patience and perseverence. With proper timing, you can deny a subchaser a good run on you.
