Hi. I wanted to ask you something if you have time.
I downloaded and installed KNX radion station, everything work as a clock. The only thing that i notice is the sound level too low. I worked at some audio files and made them louder. Do you mind if i will upload it when finished?

P.S Sorry about my English

great! downloading as I type.. lol

do you happen also have music from around let say 1948-1952 ? would be perfect when playing Fallout 3.
?
Some of the music in the Hawaiian file may be from after 1945, but I don't know from which year exactly. Other than that, no, I don't have anything from after 1945.

If you're talking about just a few files that you fixed, no problem. I don't own them.

The radio audio has always been low overall compared to the rest of the game. I just turn the master volume on my computer up before starting, and everything sounds fine.

Its not a fix its just a higher volume effect. Usualy in Sh3 and Sh4 a had same problems with additional music, its probably depends on system since i have master volume on max.
I manage to finish folder 1941-1942 and 43. I show you what i`am doing in small picture latter.

Here is an examp picture of radio audio file with low volume. http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/5678/1explow.jpg

Affter i edit the sound level it look like thise

Pretty simple i should say. Not all files are like in the first picture but some need volume adjusment. I`am sorry for that kind of post but my English is limited so that the only way i can explain myself as needed or at least try :oops:

Yeah, some files are lower in volume than others. I never did anything about it because I never found it that bad. Also, when a scripted event does start playing I use the "Unit View" to go outside the sub and watch it sail while it plays. Unless it's raining, or I zoom in really close to the sub in high seas, there's no background noise to interfere with the sound. Listening inside the sub or on the bridge can be a problem background sound-wise, unless you use TC.

I have a couple of issues. I have all the radio stations working, although I changed freequncies for some. My game is set in August 1942. However, for AFRS, CBS and BBC I am getting news in February. And if I do not finish what is playing, I get it again. Same with Superman, Lil Abner, etc.

How do I resolve this?

Getting February stuff in August I have no idea how to fix. Since you said the BBC station is doing it too, and that's not one of mine, it looks like a game issue.

As for the replaying until it's finished, do you mean it completely restarts if you turn off or change channels on the radio, or does it resume from the point where you stopped? The latter is an ingame "feature" and there's nothing that can be done about it. The former is a bug I've never encountered before.

I have download KHJ, KNX, KOTR, KPJ, and AFRS? Where are the D-Day broadcasts stored? I also downloaded BBC and Captain Midnight.

KGMB, KNX, & KPO are the only ones with D-day broadcasts. The first two have the CBS versions, KPO has the NBC stuff. KNX and KPO have their's in the "Events" folder in the 1944 folder inside the station folder. KGMB has them in "Events" in the station folder since it's not divided by year. In all cases, just look for the proper date in the filenames of the programs if you want to play them outside the game. Otherwise you have to wait until the proper date time ingame.

No. A torrent isn't going to be that much faster than using a downloader program that uses multiple connections. Also, at least in the beginning, I would be the only person sharing the files. It would probably still be mostly on me to distribute them even afterwards. Having them on other servers means I don't have to worry about needing to leave my computer on all the time. People can download whenever they want to.

Had the very first time you offerred it on FF. So I ended up re downloading it twice and figured it was a server issue, or my own internet service, so I had to go through and hack the .ini file to get it to work. Then when you did the KPO San Fransisco variation, it DL'ed fine with no issues, and I was able to add the missing stuff back into the original KPO that was corrupted.

Sorry I didn't report it back then. I figured it was probably on my end. But the original KPO was downloading with errors.

Gentlemen, I have created a radio station KNZI, Radio Berlin for SH4.

I combined the "Hitler Speeches" rar into a station.

My file is complete with config file.

It is in .rar format so it can scaned for viruses before d/l.

All I did was to create a new folder, named it KNZI, this file is the "Events" file that goes in the Folder.

I also just added the SH3 Oggvorbis1, and SH3 Oggvorbis2 files for my own geneal listening.

You'll have to include your own music.

I created this using the Radio Station Manager.

I uploaded it at filefront, it is yours to use if you like it.

Here it is:

http://www.filefront.com/15208071/Events.rar

Or here:

http://www.filefront.com/user/sandman_28054

Or, you can get the whole KNZI radio station here:

http://www.filefront.com/15209395/KNZI.rar

This includes the music and events file.

I hope to update this in the future to include some "Axis Sally" sound files also.

Hope you enjoy.

Radio Saigon, the Japanese Traditional and Wartime Radio Packs, and my own NHK Radio Tokyo files are now uploaded to the Subsim downloads area, under SH4 Sound FX mods.

I also want to let ya'll know I'll be doing more add-ons, and a couple of new stations in the near future.

I've added Radio Vladivostok and a set of Russian songs. See the first post for details.

This particular station almost drove me batty (or rather, battier than I am already :doh:). First off was trying to translate everything from Russian (thank God for that Firefox add-on I found!); then the mp3s for the scripted events refused to play in the station! So I converted them all to OGG, and they would play then. But then..... every time it would leave the scripted file and go back to the music, the music would be messed up!! A couple of times the song was sped up, but all the other times they were very slow. When that song would finally finish, the next one would fine. Until another scripted event played.

So I converted all the music to OGG too, and now everything seems to work fine.

I hope. :gulp:

I've added a set of French music files. See the first post for details.

Now you don't have to listen to the same songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over again using the Radio Saigon mod.

will you fold them into saigon?

I doubt that, because Saigon isn't one of my stations. Ziem created it, I'm just mirroring it. Also, including too much music limits where it can be uploaded to. That's why I didn't include the music in my new Russian station.

Replied to the PM he sent, but I wanted to post here too.

The file is available at two other sites. See the first post in the thread. Also, FF has always acted wonky from time to time. Eventually it will straighten up. But if you can't wait, just use one of the other sites.

BtS Mods does require registration to view and download, but Silenthunter Mods doesn't, at least for the radio stations.

BTW, I may have found another site to upload to. It's called Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com). It's ad supported for the free access, but it's unlimited upload and download too, and you can use an accelerator for downloads. And they don't seem to care about what you upload either, based on what I've been downloading from them, so I could upload the music too. The only problem is for a free account you're limited to 200 MB file sizes, and all my stuff is in 256. I'd have to redo them, and that would mean more files to download. But I am seriously considering it.

And finally, someone sent me a PM about torrenting the files. For various reasons that's just not an option.

Where did you install the game? If it was the default "C:/Program Files/" etc., or the 64 bit default folder, then yeah you have a problem. As part of the security features of Vista (and Win 7), you can't make changes to files inside those folders, especially Windows system files like .ini. If this is what you did, you have three options:

1 - Uninstall the game, then reinstall someplace else. It can be any other place on your C drive, or even better a second hard drive. Wherever you install to, as long as it's not the default "Program Files" folder, you can then edit the file.

2 - Turn off User Account Control. This should fix it, but I'm not positive. It will make your computer less secure though.

3 - Right click on the original file, or the folder it's in, or even the "Ubisoft" folder itself, then click on the "Security" tab. Then click the "Edit" button for the permissions, select each listed "Group or user names" and check the "Full Control" box. After doing all the groups, click "Apply." This should allow the file to be edited.

I really recommend you do #1 if at all possible. It solves all sorts of problems, and doesn't screw anything else up.

As you guessed it is in the default location so in the Program Folder (64bit) and that is giving me the problem.

As soon as I have finished up this patrol I am on I will uninstall and reinstall on a second hard drive that I have attached to the PC.

What if I for the time being just move the SH4 folder out of the Program Folder? Can I drag this to the other hard drive or will I break something if I do that?

Thanks again for you help... looking forward to getting radio workin on my sub.

Bull,
you can drag it to say C:\Program Files (x86)\.. but you will need to either create a shortcut on your desktop or use the one already there to change the start options Just right click the shortcut and select properties then select the shortcuts tab and change the dialogue boxes nest to target and start in: to reflect the drive and folders you moved it to.

Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\sh4.exe"

Start in: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific"

where it was originally D:\Program Files\..\..\ i just changed the D to C and added the (x86) and it works fine

You're best bet for trying this is either create a "Games" folder on the C drive, and drag "Ubisoft" there, or just drag "Ubisoft" to a second hard drive, then whichever you do, update the links in the shortcut to where the game is now. You don't want to drag the whole "Program Files" folder as it'll move everything in it and you don't want or need to do that.

Fred - I'm in need of your expertise.

I have an event in OGG format that causes a CTD whenever the specified event date/time arrives. The file is saved in mono and I've triple-checked to ensure the trigger matches the file name. Any other ideas as to what could be causing the crash?

Is this from one of my stations, or something else?

Does the file play outside SH4? It could be a bit corrupted. I've had mp3s that would play fine externally, but were messed up in the game. Try converting it to .wav or an mp3, then fix your trigger to the new extension. If that doesn't work, double check your entire events.ini file and make sure it's date/time is not out of sequence. If you have the Radio Station Manager, it will tell you that.

If none of this works, post your trigger, if possible the whole events.ini. A fresh set of eyes sometimes helps.

I've uploaded a huge set of Country Music songs. See the first post for details.

It appears BtS Mods is gone. I'm getting an "Account suspended" message when I go there.

If it is indeed gone, and stays gone, I think I'm going to try uploading my stuff on Mediafire. I'll have to redo the compression on everything because their limit on free accounts is 200 MB file sizes, but I know they won't be concerned about the music, and I don't like having them in just one place.

But for now, if you want the music files, they're only at Silenthunter Mods.

After thinking it over, I've decided to go ahead and upload my stuff to Mediafire. See the first post for the link. Just the music files are up right now. I'm in the process of uploading the radio stations now.

I also decided to use the pay option. This way I don't have to redo all my files to a 200 MB size, which is the limit for their free service, and you the downloader don't get any ads to deal with. The only potential problem is that for the pay service, you get a limited amount of bandwidth each month, and you have to pay for any GB you go over that month. But it appears it's only a few cents per GB, and any unused bandwidth from one month rolls over to the next, so I think I can handle it. If not, I can just cancel the paid account and redo as a free one. It has unlimited bandwidth, but you have the ads on that option.

BTW, you may notice I've removed the "mirroring" files from the first post. Since I've uploaded them here, there's no need to mirror them anymore. So I won't be uploading them to Mediafire as well.

Still one nagging little aside......

Was anyone ever able to get the sim to read the music files from another location...... ya know, Sim = C:\SH4 .... But music files are located @ H:\Music ?

I have a pretty big Music/News collection and would like to have it in a central location, like an external hard-drive.
My radio folder is just over 20 gigs now, and I would like to add another 20 gigs or so but hate the idea that my SH4 install eats so much space.
Plus alot of the music/shows I have are also used for common listening pleasure, so I have most of it duplicated on my external HD where I point my media player to for background music around the house.... waste of space IMHO.

In any case.....
Thanks Again for your efforts here Fred !

I've got most of the radio stations uploaded now. At this writing I'm uploading the KPO station, and after it I'll just have the KOTR station left.

Budds:

I think I did try your suggestion awhile back, and it didn't work. It's simple enough to test though. Just change the link in this line of a station's listing in the radio.ini file:

Folder=Washington

...to wherever you want to put your files.

But as I said, I don't think it works.

I don't know if this is a mediafire problem or the file is really deleted.

Respect, Kudos, and all thanks to this beautiful music. I even got some on my mp3 layer, so I can get the atmosphere all the time. Again, thank you for this hard work. :salute::yeah::DL

I am planning on D/L some of this, but I'm limited for HD space. I have a question. What broadcasts/stations did the boats actually pick up at sea? Any or all of the listed? If I could choose only two stations, which would be the most accurate/historical that the boats would have listned to? I wish I could have them all!

KPO San Francisco had a shortwave transmitter, and could be heard as far as Manila. NHK Radio Tokyo also had a shortwave broadcast that could be picked up on the U.S. West Coast. KGMB Honolulu could certainly be heard around Hawaii, though I don't know what the actual historical range was. KNX, while it didn't have shortwave, did have a very powerful transmitter that allowed it to sometimes be picked up across the Pacific when atmospheric conditions were right. KHJ was only chosen because I had listings for it, so I don't know its actual range either. It definitely didn't have shortwave though. The remaining stations are fictional, so you can ignore them if need be.

So in answer to your question, historically KPO and NHK could definitely have been heard, KNX on occasion.

Honestly though, if you're limited in space I would suggest not worrying about historical accuracy and just go with the ones that fit your available space better.

Fred, I have a question. I'm planning on useing the Radio Stations Manager Mod to install the stations. I don't know if you're familiar with this or not, but after extracting the radio files (KPO and NHK) to the Radio folder in the game, and running the RSM, the only events that show up in the RSM are for Radio Washington, and NHK. I determined that this is because of the different folder structure between KPO and NHK/Washington. The latter two stations unfold as follows: Station name, followed by events. KPO is divided by yearly folders. I hope I'm not loseing you here. My question is, do I need to take the events folder out of the year folder, eliminating the year folder so the file structure resembles NHK/Wash? In other words, KPO/Events.

This leads me to another question. Because there are different frequencies and antenna values for each year, will I in essence be creating five different stations? All the ini info must be entered into the RSM, and I'm alittle confused on how to do it. Thanks for your help.

RSM really isn't for installing already created stations. It's more for editing and/or creating new ones. The simplest way to add the KPO info is to copy the desired station info (generic or real frequencies. DO NOT USE BOTH!) and the paste it in the radio.ini directly. Make sure you put them in the proper order, by frequency.

This is rather odd. I have had great luck with the radio stations add on. I had to do a reload though as I upgraded my supermod for TMO to the latest version. So I had to reload the radio programs, and the only thing that changed is I lost the stock Washington station. The radio ini file contains all the other stations as needed, but I can't get them to play consistantly.

Most of the time, they will play one song after I start the game, but then the airwaves go dead. No news, or radio programs or anything.

Soooooooo, since it's been so long since I have had to mess with the radio, any ideas are most appreciated! :salute:

I know Fred. I'm just as baffled. :-?

I pulled everything out with jsgme, and rebooted the computer, and reloaded the mods I like. The thing that is odd, is I have your music 1941 to 1945, and I put the music in the corrosponding KPO folders like I always do, and I maybe get a song or 2 but it's really sporatic, where they used to play all the time, until an event triggerred, then the music would fade, and the event would play, be it a news program, or a radio show.

This is the first time this has ever happenned. And the only thing that's different, like I said, is that the stock Washington station is missing from the radio ini file. That's the only thing that's different. So if you have the info for the Washington station, And maybe post it, so I can copy and paste it in the radio ini file, to see if that helps. Why or if it would is beyond me. But who knows......... Stranger stuff has happenned before.

I think things are little bit deeper than I realized at first. For some reason, some of the sound effects and speech files aren't playing either. Like general quarters. The crew shows up, but no bells, and the General Quarters announcement. I think the destroyer and sub pings aren't triggerring either to boot. Just a couple observations so far.

But I am beginning to think the whole sound structure may be porked now.

Ah well, if it is, it is. I hate to have to do a reinstall, but I really need to upgrade jsgme to, but have procrastinating on that one. Hey if ain't broke, don't fix it! Right?!

I have a question about the radio mod and the news events.
I put to sea before the Pearl Harbor attack and now its late Dec. Every time I begin a session and turn on the radio, the whole laundry list of news flashes are played thru; the diplomatic crisis, the preparations for war, the first news of the attack, etc., etc. I've heard them 20 times by now. Is this normal? Its getting so I can hardly stand to turn on the radio.

Hylander_1314
02-06-11, 09:44 PM
To avoid that, use Digital Trucker's Radio Station Manager. I think it's in the download section. It will prepare the radio stations for the date you choose from the savegame folders so you don't go through the same events over and over again.

Also, if you get an error message for a missing file, you may have to dig into the radio mod(s) to find the exact file, but you can then add them to their appropriate folders in the SH4 Sound folder. Some of the big files for some reason don't always unload everything, which can cause ctd's or other odd things too.

Thanks for the post there Fred, but it didn't help, so I'm thinking, I will have to get rid of everything, and reload the game. I hope I don't have trouble with the download version of the game with the stupid activation key. It's been almost 3 years since I bought that one.

Well Fred, I finally figured it out. My uncle's cat chewed through my center speaker, and subwoofer cable.

It just so happenned that I was uploading drivers after plowing snow, and everything went fine on the installs, so I was a little dismayed as to why it all of a sudden stopped working. I tried thinking it was the HD Audio drivers that nvidia install was doing, but obviously not. So I found a new set of adio drivers for the RealTek setup, and loaded them up, and when I went to test the speakers in the 5.1 surround sound, I had no center speaker, and no subwoofer. So first thing I do, is check the back of the rig where the cables plug in, and sure enough, the damn wire to those speakers is chewed through!

My uncle was decent though. He went and replaced the cable the cable for me, but I could toss the cat to the coyotes when they come around. Man, 2 days of fiddlin' around between shovelling and plowing snow. That sucks........

Anyways, I have a clean new shiney install of SH4. Oh, one thing was odd, when I went to use the radio station manager, the JB, I think the numbers are 121144, but the last 3 are .526 file, for some reason won't unpack from the compressed rar file.:hmmm: The radio station manager says it's missing, which it is, so I have to dig it out and manually install it in the proper folder, and all is fine. There are 1 or 2 more files that do that for some odd reason. Even though they are there, they don't get unpacked.

But I run into the same thing with Captain Midnights CBS radio too. AFR loads in just fine though, along with radio Saigon.

Anyways, you can add chewed wires to the list, or at least make sure your cables are plugged in all the way. Especially if there are small pets afoot!

The older version probably won't work with the new version.

I just tried both, and 17 did hang, so I did re-upload it just to be safe. 28 downloaded fine for me.

Mediafire sometimes gets glitches like that. You need to just leave it awhile and try again later. If it keeps doing it consistently, then it's a problem.

All of Fred's stuff will work in Sh5.... But most "Events" are dated for Sh4, ie,, 1940's.
I have several of his stations running in Sh5, and have composed a couple of my own, so I know they will play fine.
If you are having trouble, it is probably with the "Installation".

Try this :

Goto **xxx\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Sound\Radio** Folder.
In there will be the Radio Station Folders and a file named "radio.ini"
For a Quick and Dirty Test, Create a NEW Folder and Name it "My Station".
Copy a few songs, News, radio shows or whatever into your new folder "My Station". ( One Song is enough for our test.... I use MP3, or ogg formats... both seem to work for me.)
Now Open the file "radio.ini" that should be in the fore stated **xxx\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Sound\Radio** Folder. ( Use NotePad to open. )
It will look something like this :

[GENERAL]
RadioRealism=Yes
StartCh=1

[CHANNEL]
Name=Washington
Folder=Washington
Freq=22
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:44.16,-35.10:100000
MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01

Now we will add your NEW Test Station by adding this :

[CHANNEL]
Name=My Station
Folder=My Station
Freq=32
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:44.16,-35.10:100000
MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01

When finished it should look like this :

[GENERAL]
RadioRealism=Yes
StartCh=1

[CHANNEL]
Name=Washington
Folder=Washington
Freq=22
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:44.16,-35.10:100000
MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01

[CHANNEL]
Name=My Station
Folder=My Station
Freq=32
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:44.16,-35.10:100000
MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01

Save and close.... then go try it in Game.
Your Station will be on Freq. 32, so dont forget to tune to that Freq.

Any Help ?

yes, when you split archive into parts, archive is a single file, so all parts will contain entire structure of source, only in smaller parts. that's why you get error when you try extract archive without having all it's parts. files will not be overwrited, but completed
if you get an overwrite message you're right, something is wrong :)

I was just extracting each rar at a time to the the Honolulu radio station.

If you have all four parts in one folder, you should only need to extract Part 1. It will now contain all the relevant files. A peek at the different parts will confirm this.

What he said. :)

With any multi-part archive, you only need to open/extract from the first one.

Fred,

First off, many thanks for your work. Incredible.

Anywho, I was wondering if I'm on target here...

My understanding is this... my first patrol is in '41 out of Pearl, I downloaded the Honolulu station only (just to keep it simple and to learn 'the process'). I noticed quite a few news casts from '42-'45. I guess I need to edit them out and place them in another folder outside of the game and just keep the '41 casts in there... otherwise I will here "future broadcasts" that haven't happened just yet?

Also, I downloaded the hawaiin music... do I just drop the songs in the KGM (or whatever the station's letters are) folder and they will play randomly with the newscasts?

Just making sure.

-many thanks!:rock:

No, just leave them alone. In the folder with the programs is a file called "events.ini." This file is used by the game to control when these programs will play. They will ONLY play when a specific date and time is reached in the game. So a program for say March 25th, 1942, won't play until then.

Also, I downloaded the hawaiin music... do I just drop the songs in the KGM (or whatever the station's letters are) folder and they will play randomly with the newscasts?
Yes. For most of my other stations the music needs to be in the year folders inside the station folder, but for KGMB it's just that folder.

Awesome, many thanks again, Fred.

Something I did notice and unsure of how to go about resolving this...

I hear a 'stock' song playing in the background at ALL times (stock as in- one of the original songs from the stock game that plays in the background)... even when tuned into KGMB its playing... and I can't for life of me get it to stop. I bet it's coming from the gramophone but I tried turning it off and it still plays?

I can live with it, it just makes hearing the news casts from Honolulu that much harder...(I even went into the sound settings and turned down the 'music' tab.)

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Best regards,

Try this: Click "Options\Sound Settings" and then uncheck the "Music Volume" box. That will turn the background music off.

I had to re-install SH4 because I messed up the modding for a few mods. Anyway, I can't seem to fing the correct radio.ini text for the Washington and the Honolulu stations... can you post it?

(I re-downloaded the Honolulu station files again but I still couldn't find the readme file for editing the radio.ini.)

It should be playing. The start date for the AFRS stations is Jan. 1st, 1942.
You put the V-disc files in the "AFRS" folder, not "Events" right?

Yeah, that's really the only way to do it. Especially if you have a bunch of stations over the whole 1000 channel range.

To answer the original question, no there is no way to directly go to a channel in the game. As for the second question, you might want to look at this:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=697

It might be a little better. I don't know of any other radio image mod.

There is something wrong with the Armed Forces Radio Service download link. the download consistently "breaks" after about 3Gb. I've been able to download and install all the other radio station mods without trouble, but the AFRS breaks every time I've tried DL'ing it.

Are you DL'ing all the parts at once? Have you tried just one at a time? It may be one file has gotten corrupted somehow. I just need to know which one.

Treetop64
07-10-15, 12:43 AM
I've tried checkmarking and DL'ing the AFRS folder itself, and opening the AFRS folder itself then checking all of its contents and DL'ing all those as a zip. I haven't tried DL'ing each individual 256MB file in the AFRS folder separately, though it would only take a few minutes to go through them all (and thus isolating the corrupt file in the process) - admittedly I felt too lazy to do that, though... :haha:

Great stuff, BTW. One of the better mods available for the sim, IMO.

EDIT: I started downloading them all individually. Curiously, doing it this way resulted in an even faster DL than downloading the AFRS folder itself. I'll let you know which one is bad, if that's the case.
.
EDIT 2: OK, they all downloaded uninterrupted and at their correct sizes, so other than listening to them all individually, I don't know what else to do to isolate the issue. I'll just install them now and enjoy them in the sim. Thanks. :)
.
EDIT 3: Yeah, uncompressed this is a huge, huge package, lol. Part 1 alone will keep me occupied for a quite a while, let alone the remaining 20-something parts. You did an awful lot of work putting this together, and I love the results. Bravo!
.

fred8615

It must've been something about trying to download the whole folder. FTR, which browser were you using? That also could've been part of the problem. Mediafire sometimes seems to prefer one browser over another.

Treetop64
07-10-15, 08:57 PM
Chrome.

As you said, it could simply be the AFRS folder size itself causing the problem. As noted DL'ing all the individual files went much faster than DL'ing the folder containing the files, and they all look OK so far.

I don't know if this has been discussed or addressed before. I now have several different installations of SH4 for specific mods such as TMO, GFO, RFB, FOTRSU, etc and I love my RADIO. I had been simply copying the RADIO folder to each and every SH4 installation which takes time and takes quite a bit of disk space when my RADIO has so many stations with many years of music.
I got to thinking, could I consolidate the RADIO Folder outside the SH4 installation(s) and simply edit the radio.ini file to point to that folder.
Yep, it partially works for music only, and only requires one instance of the RADIO folder with as many radio station installations as you choose. Then, all you need to do is edit the radio.ini file and copy it to each installation's Radio folder. The individual event folders do not translate to a single install. [EDIT: January 2, 2021 - I have since gone to using a single RADIO Folder install for each mod, while the music seems to play OK, the events do not. I haven't yet been able to figure out a proper edit to get the different SH4 variants to recognize the Events Folders.

Fred has done a remarkable job of compiling these many radio stations as have others. Sometimes, when I am busy doing other things, I play the game (usually TMO/RSRD/OTC) on 1x with the radio on, with an external view of my sub cutting through the waves. It plays in the background kind of like a fully animated screen saver with music.
While it is not practical to play the entire campaign at 1x, when I am tending to other household chores and I'm enroute to a patrol area, I set it at 1x and enjoy the ride. It also reinforces a sense of how long and boring those journeys were. Days of boredom interrupted by moments of sheer terror.

My career was in radio broadcasting until I retired in 2002, taking up my new career as professional sailor and A.S.A. Sailing Instructor. I've always loved the Old Time Radio series and music, much of it which is easily available on-line at sites such as archive.org (among others.)

For my own use, I sometimes extract bits and pieces of different radio shows and edit them into wartime commercials and PSAs and add these to the music folders to play randomly. I've discovered some real gems just by listening to the different radio series of the time and noting which commercials, annoucements and PSAs would work in the SH4 gameplay.

With the release of FOTRSU public beta 6.1, I can sense a greater interest arising from some of the old players who may have stepped away from the game for awhile.

Radio isn't for everyone, but for those of us who love this great addition to our gameplay, well, WOW.....

Again, thanks to Fred and the many others whom have contributed to this part of the gameplay.
