 D'you mean you want to see planes leave the flight-deck? Don't know whether that's possible. I've never seen it in-game. I have tried to track planes back to their carrier - usually from just north of Midway - far too far out for land-based planes in early 1942 - but have never managed it.

well if a DD detects you it shoots at you and comes drop cans.

a carrier would launch planes to come attack you.

this is what i want, not a bunch of planes but 2 or 3 that would normally attack you as long as you were detectable like you would get in real life.

too many convoys with carriers never launch a plane while i'm sinking ships, this is not right to sit there and wait to be sunk and never launch attack planes.

i suspect it is simular to planes not attacking periscopes bug in as much as the carriers will launch planes at other surface ships but not to attack subs.

i never stayed on surface long enough to see if carrier launch then but i guess i need test mission to check that. surfacing inside convoy you get sunk too quick.

US carriers could do this pretty effectively because they flew ASW CAPs.

IJN CVs didn't do this often that I know of. Their CAP would be Zeros, and contrary to stock SH4, Zeros did not hold 3300 lbs of bombs. They didn't carry bombs at all off CVs. They'd be pure fighters, so they'd do exactly nothing to your sub (I presume you'd be underwater near a CV in daylight).

To launch bombing assets, they'd need to gas them up, bomb them up, warm them up, put them on the elevator to the flight deck (jap Cvs did all this below decks the vast majority of the time). I'd expect maybe 15 minutes til you could see a plane, tops, and since they were not armed for ASW, it would be pretty ineffective---they'd likely let their DDs do the job.

Later in the war they started messing with CVs as escorts, so you'd expect an ASW CAP, and perhaps ready planes as well.

Japanese CVs flew zeros as cap to protect the carrier/TF from enemy aircraft.
Search planes were usually done from the other surface ships as they carried many. Like Tater said, in order to bomb your sub, they would have to get
them ready for the attack. I don't think that was the aim of the Japanese
High Command. They wanted to keep as many of the Kates & Vals on hand
in case they sighted an enemy surface TF (especially carriers). Of course,
in gaming terms, adjustments in the game files should give various results.
Just do some testing (trial & error) to find the setting that suits you...
