Hi mates,
I was watching that old Sh3 clip from E3 and noticed that the crew says "Destroyer in attack run" when it is pertinent, during an enemy attack. Well, the text and sound are there (in the sh3 files), also the messages on the SO cfg file. But I never saw it in game...:hmm:
Any idea?
Somebody already saw it in game?

That would be nice to get back, with bearing would be best.:p
I've seen the text and IIRC in stock very occasionally heard it in the English version. Can't remember hearing or seeing it in the German though.

You use english or german?
I use German sounds and never saw it in GWX (I also don't recall to have sawn this message from a long time, I'm even not sure about stock 1.4...).

Thanks Jimbuma. I also use GWX 1.03 with English text/German Voice...but I don't recall to have seen it since long time. But if you, Tarjak and BBW have seen it lately, then probably could be a problem with some little self made modification over my GWX installation. I obviously already look at all my own modifications and can't find why or where is the problem. Odd...:-?

search your en_menu file for a ';' leading text following the xxx=. This comments out or makes that 'feature' not available. You'll find it on the 'show hull integrity' if your using GWX for example. Remove the ';' to enable.

This isn't the case here mate. I already look at this and and my en_menu is ok.
Also my SO messages .cfg file is ok, my speech files are ok too... I will look into the sonar settings on my AI_sensors.dat ... It's the unique place that I can think about now.:hmm:

Funny but the other day as an issue came up with the River Class
Frigate mod. I pulled up my main test mission from River Class testing
and had a skirmish with six of them all of whom seemed agitated by
the recent loss of HMS Repulse. (GWX1.03)
I bet in that one skirmish I heard that phrase about a dozen times.
its keyed on a proximity to the destroyer at peridepth I think.

Frigate mod. I pulled up my main test mission from River Class testing

The 'Destroyer in attack run' message is actually broken in stock SH3 v1.4b. About 12 months ago I remember looking at Avon Ladys mod site and I downloaded the 'German Crew Cheer Mod'. I then got the german cheer from a torpedo impact and it also enabled in the 'destroyer in attack run' message as a bonus.
When a certain in-game scenario is met, the message and speech (from sonar man) will be used. So don't expect the message to appear every time a destroyer is charging at you.
The file is PUMP.DAT found in the Data\Library folder.
It appears in GWX 1.03 under the right conditions.

I've used both. I use German sound with English text. I haven't heard it for a while but I do remember hearing that no-one really knows how to ge the triggers right. Apparently when it does trigger it is usually when the DD is right on top of you rather than when the screws start up. I've been lucky recently and not been under heavy DD attack. (Obvisouly I'm not being aggressive enough:rotfl:)

I just start up a fresh GWX 1.03 and - in my test mission, until now - no way to the sonarman say "Destroyer in attack run!". I guess that you are right: itīs broken or perhaps only in very special conditions this message will appears. I tried everything for some hours using a single mission with all type of DD and DE and no dice: PD, locking them in the periscope, stright ahead, changing deep, changing direction...nothing worked. So, isnīt with my instalation (i used a fresh GWX 1.03 as I said).:hmm:
Now about that PUMP.dat file..I used it before GWX...what you think is that with it this crap message will revive? Letīs crossing fingers! I will try again my test mission with it. Just some minutes (or hours - LOL)

I just found my old "German crew Cheers mod" and made a comparision (using an hex editor) with the PUMP.dat on my installation and GWX: they are all the same. So, GWX already uses the fixed PUMP.dat. Then, the probability now remains only in "very special conditions" with some trigger that makes that message appears...odd:shifty:

1. make a folder on your desktop
2. copy and paste this name for the folder ---------> RepusleRiver <--------
3. put the mis file inside the folder (the one you downloaded called RepulseRiver mis)
4. cut or copy the folder from your desktop
5. open the following file in the game
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\SingleMissions\ English
6. paste the repulse river file into the english folder
7. start game and choose single missions
8. in the single missions menu select RepulseRiver
as your mission that you want to play.
9.once the game Boots up be very very quiet there are a half dozen
River Class Frigates coming up the road.:rotfl:

First of all, thanks again for the SM...but I guess that you are using some beta from GWx 1.04, no? Iīm saying this because (unless Iīm missing something) GWX 1.03 donīt have the Repulse, and the River is yet a DE (type=3) not a frigate. So, your SM brings a CTD in my installation.:D
Anyhow i made a similar SM using the Anson and the DE River class, the best (similar of your SM) possible using GWX 1.03...and after some tests...that message didnīt appeared again.:-?
Well, perhaps could be because in your installation/SM the River is in truth a Frigate (type=2) and then, who knows, this is what start the trigger?

i think youll get the "destroyer in attack run" message if you remove the sonar from the destroyer.
you can test this with the Italian mas, let it spot you, dive and then when its going to wb you....

Thanks for the input. I will try that. And thinking about this...you are right...this is what happens in that old SH3 E3 video...the destroyer/Frigate see the uboat first then it go PD and even more deep, then the "Enemy is ping us" message appears followed by the Destroyer in attack run!
I will try it and will let you know.
Anyhow, IIRC, the Italian mas isnīt a destroyer, no? But the game shows the message. Probably for any enemy ship that is hunt you I guess...:hmm:
Hi Rubini :), i think every ship which is the correct type (type0 totype4) with a dc rack but without a sonar will do it
I think the message from the sonar guy telling you the desroyer knows where we are, cancelles the "destroyer in attack run" message
Hope you can get rid of it, cause i really miss that message, maybe someone van hex edit away that silly "they know where we are" message

I will simply go back to my career again and If, in any moment, I see that message i will post here. If someone see that message actually, please post the relate here, what date, which situation, etc.
This will help to discover the "trigger" and then perhaps some mod could arrive in this matter.:hmm:

Im playing almost vanilla, only airpower mod.

I am playing sh3+gwx 1.3 full real.
Mission was in october 1939.
Today i got a "destroyer in the attack run message".
Was great to hear...but...
I had crippled that destroyer by one torpedo hit and it didnt run onto me but
sailed along side about 300 mtrs away.

Another info
GW mod (not a gwx) 100% realism settings. When i tryed to atack a convoy in Jan 1941 i left my periscope up for to long , and the destroyer is probably spot it - When i spot hem he was in aprox 250 meter, ALAARMMM!!!!! When i reach 30 meters sonar reported "Destroyer in atack run".
Also in vanila under more or less same situation it happen to me but only one time :shifty:

Well, Iīm not playing so much lately...but I will!
Anyhow, I guess that what we learned about this is that this donīt happens frequently but only under special conditions and isnīt easy to reproduce all the time...Or am I wrong? :hmm:
If this is correct I can just wait for my "moment" in the game... but if not...then I need to look at all my installed mods to find something that could be the culprite (in truth I already looked superficialy on them and all seems ok )

I have never had the message played yet with scope down as I tend to play conservatively however I tried some test missions and each time I can get it to trigger as long as I "leave the scope up". I believe its the sim's way of telling you if you are too focused on a ship with your scope up that it's time for some pain and you should look around

Both periscopes are down - sonar damaged.
I don`t shure but i think thise sound is scripted and only show up in more or less same conditions. Its only the 3 time i see thise happen to me, but in any case all 3 times were in crash dive status (sorry for my English).
I hope maybe thise will some how help you;)

Yesterday i got this message and i thought i heard it also yelled in german.
Btw a destroyer was indeed in an attack run right straight at me.
