Just tried installing GWX and keep getting the following error during install.
http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/9774/untitledkt4.jpg

Heres the text from the error log....

Verification of "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII" by The Grey Wolves Expansion failed.
Test 1 = PASSED
Test 2 = PASSED
Test 3 = FAILED - 1.0.0.1
Test 4 = PASSED
Test 5 = PASSED

UK DVD version of SHIII, latest patch applied successfully and no other mods installed (basically a fresh install).

And if it helps I'm using Vista and the gwx.exe plus 5 .bin files

A quick and easy reply would be nice, as I loose my net connection from tomorrow night :damn: :damn:

Does the starforce Drivers for Vista have anything to do with it?

Start sh3 and see what it says bottom left
My guess is your install is still 1.0 as test 3 states
With Vista its difficult
I dont know all the steps needed
Check the thread for Vista troubles

Vista is still uncharted territory I'm afraid :hmm:
Good luck Kaleun

Thanks for the hints.

Just realised that the install wasn't working at all (SHIII) - starforce hadn't installed properly, done the update of drivers and all seems ok now.

Slight problem checking the version though - my dvd is at work and once i'm back there i've got no net connection :(

Might just have to dual boot with XP to get an easy work-around :hmm:

The good news is you have a clean, unmodified copy of SH3. The bad news is that it is *not* patched to v1.4b (the 1.0.0.1 signifies v1.0).

A seemingly common problem amongst Vista users and one explained simply by the security features of Vista itself. BBW linked one thread that may help. Here's another... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=106281&highlight=vista

In a nutshell, you *thought* you had successfully installed the patch, Vista implied the same through silence, but all along it was nicely caching some/all of the files "out of the way" elsewhere so that they wouldn't interfere with your nice fresh v1.0 install. Ahh Vista...

Nb: You don't need to run SH4 to know what version you have. Just open Windows Explorer, navigate to your SH3 folder, and hover your mouse over sh3.exe. If the file version is not 1.4.0.1, then you don't have v1.4b installed.

Thanks - just checked my exe file = definately 1.4.0.1. That other page looks interesting though, saved page to drive as I had to remove SHIII last night. Tried a different way to get it to work and it didn't :nope: .

Just have to hope thats the problem so i can fix it without putting a dual install on my HD.

Hehe. That's what Javigato thought in http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=115491&highlight=vista (page 2) until he emailled his files to me. Again, it's caching. On his machine his files looked like v1.4b files, but on my XP machine they were definately v1.0 files. Vista's "smoke and mirrors". ;)

Through some stuffing around it seems he got it working.

I don't use Vista, and the frank reason is because I couldn't be fluffed figuring this kinda thing out (and I'm a software engineer by qualification!).

I succeed with Vista 32 and gwx now. I copy and ran the patch1.4b from the root directory sh3

Welcome to Subsim.

Click on my Sig for all the GWX files & then follow these intructions:

1. Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2. Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3. Reinstall SH3
4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6.Download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

This should get you up & running, if you are using Vista follow then read the posts earlier in this thread.
