[WIP] Hi-res S-Class skin

Hi there fellow captains, :arrgh!:

I have had some many request for the s-class boats, that today I started with the first outlines of this boat.

Here some screenies of my progress.

At this moment I am far from release..
I have some problems with reflections that makes my skin really blurry.
Also all details has to be painted.

My first impression of this odd boat were the same when game was released, tried all other classes, but was drawn back to this weird boat, and since May she's all I sail. Why ? just my humble opinion mind ye, she handles better than the bigger boats, avioding DD an such, downside is ye only have 12 fish, so if ye can master this little devil and hit 100,000 tons without a refit or extra ammo mods, high realism settings, you would have to be one helluva of a skipper.That being said, Foofighter,Am most excited about seeing your finished work on the this fine vessel :up: :arrgh!:

This is the only boat I've played so far. I love her. She reminds me of a Type II and a Type VII put together.

The lines have that distinct classic 1930's influence, as if the designer was listening to a Buck Rogers radio broadcast as he drew her or watched on of those early sci-fi shorts. The lines definitely resemble some of the sci-fi spaceships of the time.

Capability wise she's not to far off from a German VIIA-B. Granted she can't touch the VII in a dive (None of the US subs can. Pretty sure we've discussed the different pressure hull designs here before). She holds about as many fish as a VII, minus stern tubes, and unlike the II she can engage surface targets. And although she can't defend herself against air attacks (early war) have a SD Radar stack seems to be enough so far. Your AA should be a last resort anyways. I recall the VII doing about the same speed wise as well.

I can't wait for this skin to come out. It's beautiful already.

It wouldn't make much sense to switch from a Gato to an S-Class anyway. It's a WW1 sub which saw service in WW2, and was later replced by far better designs. You'll have to start a career early in the war.

Starting a new career and starting with the "earliest" historical sub design that's available in the game, and gradually stepping up to each next more advanced sub design, is well worth considering. The new S-boat skin looks beautiful.

I hope the plan is to reskin them all.

What would be the exact list of all the available subs to operate in the game, in their order of advancing technology?

i had an issue with a saved game crashing, 9th career 9th patrol, baleo sub, i said the heck with it, im getting so excited with this S boat talk i started a new career with the S-34, this thing is sweet! 12 knots to the pins, the interior is so cozy, i love the pause when they change over from diesel to electric! out on my first patrol with it now! a lot of fun!:arrgh!:

Well , tonight was a long night again. I (nearly) finished both grey and black version. Grey version still has a conning tower color problem. The lighting / shadows of this tower is different from the subs skin. I cannot get both tower and skin the same color when the sun is shining on it.

Think I solved this by making the conning tower texture a bit brighter than the body

Trying to match colors in skinning was always a pain, especially in IL2.

To me at least, it looks like the old USS Holland. Of course, they were built in the same era of submarine technology.
