I have edited this thread after figuring out what the problem was. If you are trying to run SH3 Mini Tweaker under Vista, this may resolve the problem.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hello all,

I have been trying to use the SH3 Mini Tweaker. I have it pointed to the SH4 directory and have downloaded tweak files into the tweakfiles folder. Now what? I made some changes, but as far as I can tell, they only affect the tweak files themselves. How do you get the changes to affect the game?

Thanks,

-Doug

Hi man and welcome to SS!
I think this post sort of explains it.

I think your prob is that YOU MUST DELETE THE BACKUP FILE before you load the game. So if you change let say scene.dat

After you did all your tweaks, go to the folder that contains the file you tweaked, in this case

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\scene.dat

and look for a "Copy of scene.dat"

This is the UNTWEAKED DATA! and is created automatically when you do a tweak using the Minitweaker in case you want to revert back. The game LOADS THIS instead of the TWEAKED file for some reason... so in order to see the changes, move that at ANOTHER LOCATION! or delete it!

The tweaked file has the original name, in this case "SCENE.DAT" so leave that where it is and load the game and you will see the changes i am sure.

Thanks, that does clear some of it up. But, I don't have any "Copy of" files anywhere in my SH4 directory. I searched and they aren't being created and the dates of the files that are supposed to be updated don't change.

I just started using the SH3 Mini Tweaker since I can't DL most of the mods from here. You need the Tweak file(s) your gonna use for the original file your gonna change in the SH3 Mini Tweaker sub folder called "SH4Tweakfiles". Select the SH4 as the main game, then select the tweak file you wanna tweak. Make shure you enter a value in the center right of the SH3 Mini Tweaker window the clcik "save new value". The program will save the changes an make a copy of the original file. Afer I do my changes I remove the new file an replace it with the copied file, I then create a jsgme compatible mod with my tweaked file(s).

Be sure to hit "SAVE NEW VALUE" after each time you put in a new value!
not just "Enter" on the keyboard.

I can't really think of anything else at the mo :hmm:

Yep - I did that. I get the little red box that says it is saved (don't recall the exact wording). And - if I re-open the tweak file, it has the changed value. But nothing is changing on the SH4 side. What is funny, is when I tried pointing mini tweak to the sh4 data file, I got an error when I tried changing the tweak file, because it couldn't find the corresponding .sim file. So, it seems that Mini Tweak is connecting to the correct file normally, it just isn'...

Doh! I just figured it out!

Did I mention this is a Vista machine? Anyone else know what the problem is now?

You need to run Mini Tweak as Administrator.

When I first tried it, it threw an error about - comdlg32.ocx not correctly registered...

To fix that, I did the following:

Note: you must run the command prompt as administrator. To run command prompt as administrator, hit the Start button (usually in lower left on your screen), in the Search box type 'command', the search will return a list of items, one of them being 'command prompt'. Right-click and select "Run as Administrator".

At the command prompt, run this:
regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMDLG32.OCX

You may also want to try reregistering it by running:

regsvr32 /i C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMDLG32.OCX
This last bit didn't work for me, but running the first line to unregister COMDLG32.OCX allowed me to run Mini Tweaker as Admin, which now works fine. Not sure if there will be other issues later because of unregistering COMDLG32.OCX - use at your own risk.

But works just fine here.

Yeah, since I make my living as a self-employed IT guy and I clean out PCs infested with viruses and spyware every week, I don't actually recommend turning off UAC. As annoying as the "Do you really want to run that..." prompts are, there is a legitimate purpose behind them.

On the other hand, I can't make the amazing mods that you do, so I'll hold the lecture! :D
