I would like to know if any of my fellow kaleuns could do this skin for the IXD2 sub.
I don't know who created it, but it's wonderful.
Thanks for your help with this one, i hope it can be done.

Fubar has done quite alot of skins for all different sub types, mostly based on historical boats... you can get them all here:

Thanks a lot for the info Boris...
I will check that, but if it was made based on an historical boat, then not very likely I will find this skin for the IXD2.
Anyway, I hope someone here could do it. ;)

Hi CapZap,

I just looked into the tga files for a VIIC and a IXB skin. In the files that refer mostly to the side view of a sub. As they are both high res skins the files for both sub types are 2048x2048 in size.

All the sub's parts in that view are at the same position in both files. So at first it would be just a copy&paste job to port the main textures. Then one would have to recreate the IX specific details over the former U-991 textures.

Should be not that hard to do all in all. If there isn't anyone with experience in sub skin creation that finishes it before me, I will upload it and post the link here ;).

Greetings, i.

Le tme know if you decide to move in with this skin... After reading your explanation, I will give it a try too, but more likely I will die in the attempt. I will let you know how my progress is.

Hm, I just wanted to start with the real skin and realized that it isn't on fubar's FF page and I don't have the VIIC version of it either.

Could you upload it somewhere or tell me where to get it ?

Looks like th right one :)

I just would prefer the high res versions of skins I use. There is a real difference in the game. Has to be as for example the NSS_*_.tga is 4 times bigger in high res and when watched in some graphics program you can see much clearer details either.

Don't know when exactly a skin is to be called high res but there is a difference, that's for sure.
Taken the main texture files of this 997 skin, they are 3mb in size and contain 1024x1024 in resolution.
I compared it to fubar's high res type VIIC U-253 skin, there are those texture files 2048x2048 and 12mb each.

So it's no wonder that it looks better in the game because smaller textures have to be streched to a larger extend to fit the 3D models and their details begin to look slightly blurry.

That's also the difference where I was unsatisfied with some, otherwise beautiful, skins and now stick to the real high res ones because you can see every single bolt when closing in on your sub ;).

me personally i would like the 2048x2048 high res skin on my sub, however i'm happy with 1024x1024 skins on ships.....long loads with gwx, and i don't tend to get too close to enemy ships :arrgh!:

Ichso, I was wondering if you were able to do something with this... I tried, but no positive results so far... this skins thing is not easy at all. :hmm:
