Well I was just able to finish up about an hour with patch 1.3. And boy, I gott'a say, the IJN sure doesn't mess around anymore.
First command is the Sailfish in '41, with orders to deploy to the East China Sea, in addition to some commando deployment. Along the way I bagged a medium frieghter, although he made me use up five torpedoes, as he wasn't exactly willing to cooperative like his buddies back in 1.2 (evasive manuevers galore), lol.
A couple uneventfull days later, after inserting the commandos, my rader picks up a single contact. Now in the past everytime I've had a lone contact, it ends up being a zero. So I decided to stake it out, in part to test the new AI. Unfortunaly this Zero turned out to be a Betty who got the jump on me, and place four bombs right along the lengh of the hull. Damage was severe, and for a moment I contemplated heading home. But thankfully the crew was able to fix the most critical components, bulkheads especially.
Almost to the deployment zone, I run into a large convoy and immediatly began my approach. Everything was looking good thus far, was able to get a proper speed reading (new speed calculation rocks btw), and hadn't tipped off the escorts. Now, here's were things got ugly. Just as I finished the TDC setup on a medium frieghter, the nearest escort began pinging away. So it was four fish away and a quick dive at ahead standard with the rudder hard to port. I went to external came to watch the torpedoes, and counted two prematures, a dud, and one miss; curse those Mk.XIV's.
Long story short I managed to dodge the first depth charge run, but the second, managed to transform my once beautiful boat into very large rudderless paper weight.
Here's a shot of the "crippling blow". There's a third escort off to the left, at all stop, pinging away (they took turns doing this), while the convoy speed up and engaged in some hefty zig-zag action.

Overall I'm truly impressed with 1.3, especially the AI, almost makes me want to go back to the Atlantic, lol.
So many a hearty thanks Dan and co.; this has become the most enjoyable subsimming experience I've had yet.
