I'm not sure if this has been covered already, but the AC in the game sound like lawnmowers to me. This was the same problem in SH3, until GWX made them sound awesome (sorry if I missed any other sound mods that improved AC sounds, but GWX is all I use). Is there an improvement out already, or is this something that can be worked on?

They all sound like "blub blub blub" to me... probably because I pull the plug when I see aircraft :D

I can probably replace them. What kind of engine do you like? An Allison V-12? Maybe since Zero's use Radial engines, maybe I can find an actual zero sound.

FOund one here, but it is not constant enough. I could probably make it work though:

Give me some time to tweak this to make it sound OK.

Dont' make it too monotone. I miss the air flow sound a plane does when aoproaches, passes over you an then laeves. Or the one when ascends and descends.

I guess if the sound could be tweaked to sound like in air-simulators where the engines sound changes based on distance (high-low) and speed (tune).

It must be as monotone as possible. The game engine will do what you are asking for after the fact, making the plane sound like it is passing overhead and then change the tone of it off into the distance. If the sound changes much, it will stand out like a sore thumb ans sound very weird.

PS. A better way to put it is that the engine dynamically changes the sample rate depending on if the aircraft is coming, overhead or going. It re-creates the effect you are looking for in game.

Yes, but anyway a plane engine sounds diferent (from the ground point of view) everytime the plane turns, acceletates or decelerates, ascends or descends, and all of that for every position during planes movement in a 3D space. (closing, close, going away, far away).

That is why it must be monotone (What you hear won't be monotone). The game engine will do what you are asking already. A doppler effect is built in and controlled by SHIV executable. If I made it non-monotone, the engine could be creating the affect you desire, but my sound would be doing the opposite. I can't fight the in-game engine.

Good deal Subman, take as long as you need:up: I'm sure we would all appreciate some mean sounding AC. I love those deep, throaty, drones of those old, highpowered piston engines of the era. Those sounds are as distinct as a fingerprint.

This is the best Mitsubishi Zero I can find right now, so I guess I'll use it. Maybe I can get away with making it short so that the pitch doesn't change much.

I've found some more monotone sounds. The two in question are the Stutka and Hurricane sounds that sound the most like lawn mowers. So let me know what you think of this, and if you like it, I'll do the damaged sounds from these models:

PS. Just so you know - the Hurricane replaces the hurricane in game. The Stuka is actually the Zero, and a couple of other aircraft for sound. So these are the two that need replacing.

I have two words to say on these two files - Friggen Awesome! I just played the Battle of Midway quick mission with these two files replacing the old versions, and those aircraft sound perfect! They have a throaty sound to them like they should! When they get killed, they have the lawn mower sound, but it is almost like they are out of oil or something and their engines have major problems! I'm not even sure I should re-do the damage sounds, though I think I should and probably will!

I highly suggest that you replace the files with my provided ones in your data/sounds folder. The difference is night and day for the aircraft!:up::up::up::up::up:

PS. I'll create a seperate thread with a [REL] header when I'm finished with the damaged models. I need to see how the dev's did the default ones first and then I'll duplicate it.

PPS. Before I replace it, i want to play with it a bit. It just sounds so good, I need to run a test patrol with it!

Sounds like a winner! Busy at the moment, so can't sample those new sounds, but as soon as I have some free time. Thanks for your efforts and time:up:
