Which won't work; which will work; which are no longer needed?

I tried RFB 1.28 over a fresh install. No go. Has anyone gotten RFB to work with the patch?

well you must be carefull with AI, sensors, Radar and the file menu_1024_768.ini

The mods making changes there might run but they will definetely run not as intended.

1.3 has greatly improved AI. Enhancing it with a mod that was made for 1.2 will make AI pretty much unrealistic. Same with sensors. And if you use mods that contained Radar fix you are patching back to the old only partly working radar.

What you can do is reading the readme for your favorite mod and find out what is changed in which files. Then you can get out the files that are making changes to named features and install the mod partly. Or otherwise just wait for the author to make it 1.3 compatible. Of course that can take a while for larger mods.

The modders can't answer your question until the official patch is released. Although this leaked Beta may be helpful, it is not the final release of the patch which should occur within the next few days.

Thanks to all. As suggested, it looks like it's best to wait for the official 1.3 and the new stream of mods.

Back to SH3.

Thanks.

Horst

The version there around is beta, not the definitive, sure, most people will wait for the definitive version.

It will be a nightmare Horst...

I am thinking seriously to not install v1.3.

I am thinking to decompress it into a folder, look what files it changes, and install only the main files wich do not affect my present installation.

But i will wait for official final release.

I am too happy with my preesent settings, the only i need is a better DDs detection, nothing more.

Sure, the patch will ruins many of the present mods and moths of job... as wrote above, it will be a nightmare. :p

Get Winmerge to check for example the .ini and all the .cfg files etc. Its Open Source and lets you see DIRECTLY what has changed and not.
http://winmerge.org/

Used it yesterday to fix my .ini. Did it like 10 min and I am up and running with ALL my mods ok! I will check again of course after the "REAL" patch is released ;)

That wont work. The main files are all essential you cant just pick out what you like.

And honestly youre missing a lot. Even the best mods cannot weight it up. Of course its a lot of work to make big mods 1.3 ready and you will need to rebalance everything new but that will be definetely required if you want your mod being played. There is no way around 1.3

Hey Captain....

Since you've had a liittle time with the "Beta" 1.3, what are your general impressions?

...and do your modifications work OK?

...and did you have to do much work to make them compatible with 1.3?

Cheers

This program don't show compare result of binary files ... (I use UltraEdit32)
You can:
1) Copy (or rename, if not move) folder with SH4 into any other place (other drive)...;
2) Remove SH4 from an old place (or create empty root folder of SH4, if rename in 1 item), having left an empty root folder of game;
3) Run for executing 1.3 patch exe file;
4) Result: you have root folder (and subfolders) with 1.3 patch files.

Well congratulation you have patched most of 1.3 back to 1.2 with mods.

Most mods will run but as i said they used old files so you have nothing left from 1.3.

Example: Deckgun mod used old camera file. The patch has a new camera file that makes you look through the coning tower with binoculars. Now when you install the deckgun mod it will overwrite the new file with the old one and you will have nothing from new binoculars.

Example: Triger Maru, Sensors and Radar. The patch brings new Radar and Sensor files that makes AI hear and see much more realistic. Now installing TMaru you overwrite all new files with old ones. You have old radar (that aint work) and you have ruined the sensors.

So having 20 old mods installed over 1.3 will basicly put you back to 1.2.

The best you can do if you cant wait is to look at every file of every mod and check if it touches any features of 1.3. And then only pick out save files and install only parts of your favorite mods that do not hurt 1.3 features.

Ahhh now that's a cool tool. Gonna check it out. I was mainly interested in the .ini as that's where all "MY" mod problems where.
But gonna check out UltraEdit32 never the less.

CheersTo be honest I did not have much time to actually play (RL Work) But all "MY" mods where ok except for the ones using the .ini
Pull down Nav Map
Smaller Navi Tools
Some other bits and pieces (tweaks etc) in the .ini

The over all time to check and fix was not more then 10-20 min in my case.

I think MODs like RFB and others involving the actual campaign layers, boat tweaks etc might have more work coming.

Looks like there needs to be a global reconsideration of AI skill levels. In my campaign, I bumped the IJN units to a min of "vet" AI with very few exceptions. It will need testing, but it sounds like the standard will likely be "competant" with a decent number of "veteran" and very few "elite" escorts. I'd reserve "novice" for lesser units.

I hope you are using JSGME? if not :o
Reinstall would be my honest suggestion!

If you are using JSGME you just unload the mods using the interface of JSGME.
Patch the game
Load each mod with JSGME and test. But most likely all mod makers here will do updates of their work, and then the best is simply to download the new versions of course.

I personally will do a list of all mods I have done and post here, what is working and what is not etc.

Just a reminder:
I really enjoy your SILENT SERVICE 1.2 GRAPHICS MOD as it is but please change the first loading screen version number to reflect the new 1.3 patch when available.
Maybe you can make that one screen a separate D/L for us users when ready?

Personaly, I would reccomend:

1) Deactivating all mods.
2) Uninstalling SHIV
3) Reinstalling SHIV
4) Patch to 1.3 and make a backup
5) Start installing your mods, one by one and testing to see if they break anything.
6) Alternatively, instead of (5), wait untill the original mod developers release 1.3 compatible versions.

This is really the only way to gurantee you maintain a stable installation.

For those who like the odd risk, and assuming all your mods were installed via JSGME, simply roll back the mods and then proceed from (4) above.

From my own beta experience, I can say that a lot of the graphical mods seem to work well.

May be my bad english Werner... some times i have not the correct words, i was tlaking to not make an automatic install and install the files one by one, sure all the main files, system files, those outside the data folder, include the .exe for sim and mission editor.

And with the remains take a look on them, and found what they changes and make a compatibilization first before instead an automatic install wich will overwrite my files with no advice wich ones was overwrited.

How to explain... a copy and paste installation of the patch.

There are No Words in any language that could possibility describe the range of emotions this game has caused me.

I did the clean install and patch 3. I went for a ride and everything was great. I was doing war patrols and quick missions, Midway - Wounded Bear and a couple of others. Like I said everything was great, the AI were on their toes which kept me on mine. But I missed some of the eye candy mods I was using with patch 2 things like Captain Cox's stuff, Redwine's mods, green lamps, green status indicators, battle stations on all bars, a nice Hamilton nothing really serious, but they made the game more enjoyable for me. That's why we play these sims, right, to get away from our "real" world to keep from going postal (no offense meant to any postal workers out there).

BUTT, my main gripe had always been with the radar so they said they fixed it.(I don't know who the hell "THEY" are.)

Well, it was looking pretty good in the short runs. I was starting to feel really good about this game. I figured the Modders would get around to upgrading their mods shortly and all would be well.

SO, I decided to do a career run in a Tambor, Dec 10, 41. Without any mods, just straight up. While I was prepping the boat I noticed both radar slots were empty. Hey, no problem we'll make this run by sight. I get to Honshu, get several good targets, the AIs are working much better. Time to head for the barn. I get almost back to Pearl when suddenly I start getting radar reports, hell I don't have any radar installed, then the sound man chimes in and is giving me bearings on friendlies. I hadn't put on a damage crew, so I took everyone out of the senors section. Still I get radar and now sonar reports with no bodies on station and no radar installed. I am sick of this. If the mods don't help me live with this, then this game is history. I don't get this tore up about "stuff" in my working life like I have let this game get to me.

"Damn, I Love this game; Damn I hate this game.":damn: :damn: :damn:

To Neal or Moderators, You may please remove my post #37 Despite its one valid point (radar). It is the ravings of a lunatic that stayed up too late to do a clean install and add mods that had not been tested for patch 3 and had a hard day at work the next day.

Today, after a good nights sleep, a pot of coffee, a cheese danish and reading through 34 pages of posts to find the mods I thought I already had, the game works much better today.

I am supposed to be old enough to accept the things I cannot change. Patch 3 did not fix it all, but it is a better game since the patch.
