I'm enjoying a lot my current campiagns in GWX (30th Flotilla) and NYGM (29th Flotilla) but the nighttime has become a real nightmare (Pardon the pun) for me because I struggle to see anything in the dark, while I know it is certainly rendered on screen (Standing up and looking at the screen from a slightly above angle I can see the enemy ships better). I know that it is mainly my LCD to blame, because with my older 17 inch Philips CRT I could have a much more balanced gameplay, but I moved long ago to LCD and will not go back. So how can I make the sky just a bit clearer at night? :hmm:

Only at night: use some mods, in one of the stickies was a link to a mod that changed the night's sky and water textures to more brighter ones

In general: You could change the colour balance of your graphics card to more of each value (r,g and b) which will make everything brighter. With some software you can use such settings as profile for SH3 only.

This? http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm If so... do you have to change the gamma correction at night and then back in the day?

Yes because this is an overall setting to make the graphic card's drivers produce a brighter output all the time.

If you use the 8k environment & you haven't tried Mahkimovs light night then I recommend going to my site and downloading, & yes the 16k version was not in fact light.

Turn off the room lights; use a small, red-lensed flashlight to read your keyboard. If it's daytime, draw the curtains to darken the room as much as possible.

Minimal glare from external lights makes seeing things at "night" on the screen MUCH easier.

Works well for me at least, no downloading required.:D

Thanks for the replies

I'll look for mods, as gamma settings is not what I prefer because during daytime it looks too bright :hmm: and I do not like to be messing around with gamma each dusk/dawn

Nope, I'm using 16k :nope:

Yes of course that works for me as well, but sadly it is terribly bad for the eye's health:down: And since I not just play but also work with my computer, I would put too much strain on them:dead:

Heh. Norwegian summer nights are too bright for that trick to work very well. :)

Winters, on the other hand...

or insead of doing all that just flip your monitor 180 degrees and brighten up everything on your computer not just sh4.

just get a standard vesa monitor bracket (universal mounting holes) wall or desktop version and use your monitor control panel to rotate the screen 180 degrees.

usually monitors mounted straight at eye level or above get darker due to pixel angle. 180 degree rotation will let you see again just like when you stand up, then you can tweak the game if needed.

That might be spot on since I have it already hanging in the wall above my desktop :hmm: yet it does sound a complicated procedure  and it will reverse the loudspeakers effect :damn:

Will try anyway:88)

All lights in the room off. Except for a small desk lamp. I have a keyboard with backlight which is ideal for SHIII.
