View Full Version : SH3Cmdr R2.7.1???

I've been pondering a few slight "tweaks" to SH3Cmdr for a while. And whilst I've always considered R2.7 as the "final" release, these little tweaks have niggled away at me.
Individually, they would not be sufficient to warrant a new SH3Cmdr, but together and with anything else that I may have forgotten along the way, it may make it worthwhile,
Specifically, I have some internal code I'd like to improve (you know the usual "I'd now like to do it this better way"). In addition I'd like to provide internal support for the NULL patrol grid problem experienced mid-patrol.
I have *NO* intention on adding big features like inbound crew transfers or better support for multiple installations. I'd just be making minor changes.
The biggest change may be providing full multi-language support for the SH3Cmdr interface (like JSGME), but only if interest is high enough.
So, remind me, are there any other *small* tweaks that have been raised, or have been discussed, that could warrant inclusion into R2.7.1? For example, I know I've said in various places "yeah, good idea but not worthy of a whole release by itself", so there prolly are other little things I could add.
I reserve the right to pull the idea should interest be poor.
Hi Jaesen, using the SHIV Scene.dat file, will commander have any problems with wave height settings etc?:-?
Thanks.

Dunno - that's an issue for the modder to ascertain and resolve. ;)
However, if you can use the SH3 tweak file on the SH4 version of scene.dat with no problems, then SH3Cmdr will also have no problems.
If the hex offsets in SH4's scene.dat are different than SH3's, then yes SH3Cmdr will get upset UNLESS you tell your users to unselect the wave height and water clarity options. But you would have already tested this, I'm sure. ;)
What I might do is move the internally-coded scene.dat offset values to one of the external cfg files, so that any conflicts can be easily resolved.
I assume that the values stored/changed should appear in exactly the same location in either file, (the data must be in the same address location)? I haven't actually tried doing a comparison between the files to see if they are, I would assume not as the data is different right from start!:yep:

That would be great Jaesen, unless it becomes a problem (a pain to do)!
Cheers.

I no longer have Mini Tweaker installed so I will need someone to provide me with the hex offsets for the following:
1. In scene.dat:
- UnderwaterFogEnd(Fog)
- MaxWaveHeight
2. In GUNS_SUB.sim
- reload_time for 105mm
- reload_time for 88mm
Stock versions of course. ;)
Beyond that it's easy.
(Yes, I know I could reverse engineer the values I've used, but I want to reconcile to ensure 100% accuracy).
Now that's out of my league! The only thing I could do is send you the minitweakers scene.dat.txt for both versions!:-?

That would work too. ;)
Plus the one for stock GUNS_SUB.sim pls.
Thanks

Neither of these are big deals (for me) and I'm not about to complain if they cannot be done. I use SH3 Commander and think it's a great addition to the sim. You have my thanks and appreciation.
1) Have a default wav file (or files) play when you go to the club. That would allow us to add some music of choice in the background while there. Atmosphere!
2) I tried editing the discussion script in the nightclub. Apparently there are limits on how long individual comments can be, and on their number (the back and forth). Can that be extended and increased?
Thanks.

Read the Help file. ;) Specifically:
A Nightclub where you can catch up on the latest gossip and news with your fellow Kaleuns. Remember though, not everything you hear is true!;
You can add, remove or alter comments by editing 'Nightclub_*.txt', located in your SH3 Commander\Nightclub folder. You can also automatically randomise Nightclub images by adding more .jpg files to the SH3 Commander\Nightclub folder. Images display in 16:9 (widescreen) ratio. SH3 Commander will also randomly play any wav files found in the folder.

There are no limits on either the number of comments or length of each comment (well, actually, your computer's available memory will limit the ultimate length, however, any string longer than a couple of hundred chars is prolly too long anyway).
Make sure you change the "ShowCommentsPerMth" setting to reflect the maximum number of comments that you want to display each month. If you want all comments for each month to display, make it 999 or something. And make sure that your additional comments are consecutively numbered.
Well, these changes were easy, LOL!
If I were you, I would invest some time in improving the html report about the career, it's a very nice feature but it's now a bit crude.
There could be some simple improvements (e.g. changing the background - which I did myself - and the font), some more advanced (e.g. showing a smal jpg with medals earned and badges) and even some refined ones, like showing the profile of sunk ships in the patrol reports.
Thanks for your excellent product!

Hi Maraz:
Is there any chance you could share it? It sounds very interesting and would like to give it a try.
If it's not possible, doesn't matter. Thanks anyway.

I hope I explained myself well, the only change I could do myself is the background of the Personnel File. It's a quite easy modification.
If you are interested, click one of the links in my sig, if you like the background I used, right click "Save Background As" and save the file into "C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander\Personnel Files", or whatever is the directory you installed SH3, under Personnel Files.
Next time you click "Update your personnel file" it will use the new background.jpg file

Oh, sorry, I got confused, but anyway, thanks a lot. I understood you made all those modifications.... :o
Anyway, I just saved your background, whick looks very nice.
Once again, thank you Maraz

I hadn't read the latest readme. I'd been away from SH3 for about a year.
Thanks.

OK, a lack of feedback and interest indicates that SH3Cmdr is perfect just as it is. Accordingly, there will be no SH3Cmdr 2.7.1.
One titem that came up in a thread on SHIII somwhere was adding an option to change the rain to snow in appropriate locations and seasons using SH3C. Reckon its doable?

Yep, it's doable but it's not something JS needs to incorporate, the functionality is already there to do it.;)
Yes, SH3Cmdr, is pretty polished right now.

I really really enjoy your addon,, it is the only one I use!
and ending screen though I thought would be a nice touch,,
I.e. the post war carrier,, and a pic of sitting there with the kids and grandkids,
or various pics of the uboat being sunk and/ or the final pic of a sunk boat as a tomb, or if on the surface,, in the sea, either rescued or drifting into nothingness awaiting the end
SHIII did a poor job for ending,,

SH3Cmdr can only work with what SH3 gives it.;) I'm pretty sure that there is no way to implement this idea as there is no dedicated 'end of war' screen, just a popup message.
However, you're right, poorly done.
