View Full Version : New SHIV Scene for SHIII version update.

Reece

Hi, Like all mods after time the various faults begin to show themselves, with this version the focus has been on the following issues:
1) Uber waves.
2) Lightning without clouds.
3) Sunrise & sunset glare.
Past fixes:
1) Sky Vortex.
2) Moon Reflection.
I have tested for a further 10 hours (approx), and all seems good, I also added 2 reflection versions to suit individual taste, hope these are ok, it's hard to please everyone so hopefully I did it right!:yep:
Download:
http://files.filefront.com/SH4+Scene+for+SH3+8k+v2+3rar/;7933306;/fileinfo.html
Please note again, that the SHIV Scene.dat file is only workable for 8k environment.
Cheers.

I also found that the more reflective version was corrupted!:-?

I wish the water in SHIV could look just like this! The water seems much better modeled in III and with these reflections its no contest. I would play IV much more if I had this water....I might not even get so disgusted that I yank it from my system for the 4th time! Would this be possible at all?

Reece

My computer won't run SHIV until I get an upgrade, and that will only happen if patch 1.3 fix's the many bugs in the game!:x
I was under the impression that SHIV water was supposed to be far better?:-?
Many are trying to convert SHIV to Atlantic, maybe they should be converting SHIII to Pacific, would be better for a lot of people as it would run on older systems, like mine, without the bugs!!:yep:
This might open a can of worms!

The water in IV is better only in that you can see under the surface and the reflections are supposedly better. The "ocean" is far better in III because it is modelled better with regards to wave motion and so forth...giving it more atmosphere. Stormy weather in IV just plain sux because there arent any bigger waves, the ocean just seems to foam up and turn white! I have hope that more mods will come (in addition to Beerys excellent RFB), but this kind of water in the pacific would be a great thing indeed and add MUCH needed immersion... great stuff here!

I think if you did so you would need to reduce the campaign layers
loading being what it is. and that campaign layer system I think is
better in SH4 as it breaks down the full layers to sub layers for each
theatre I think.

I party agree with you on this. Storm water in SH4 needs work for sure.

You forgot to mention the light shafts and algae ( toned down version ), I can't say enough about these effects. Those plus the water being transparent, set SH4 apart.

All that said, what Reece is doing is awsome work, getting the most out of SH3 for sure.

Oh, would that it could be done! The opportunity to prowl the oceans in a sub of Allied or Axis affiliation would be a coup of incredible proportion. Judging from the reception given SH4 in critical reviews and in the opinion of more than a few in the community, there's a lot of life still left in SH3. I applaud the efforts of all you gifted modders taking it beyond expectation.

Only for the modded SHIII scene.dat, the SHIV version can only be done in 8k! I have done a LOT of testing to get a 16k version but too many problems.:-?

I spose it would be. But its not a prob for me cos I'm using 8k env now anyway, after seeing a post by Kpt. Lehmann stating that 16k re-introduces the vampire vision in GWX :-?

It feels a bit strange, after playing 16km for the last few weeks, when I go on deck now after hearing "Ship spotted!" and see a ship so close that my WO could spit on it... but it sure it nice not to have to flank 10 miles out ;)

Reece,
Problem....

At night it looks really great but at daytime i have a black sky....

Reece
09-07-07, 09:08 PM
The black sky is a mixup with 8k & 16k Env skycolor versions, you will have to disable the mod then change your current SH3 version to 8k, then enable this mod.:yep:
This mod is a Scene.dat for the 8k Atmosphere, it is not a complete 8k atmosphere, was done this way so that the mod could be adapted to other supermods easier.
Hope this helps.

Ohhh no i see the cause, i have the flavored to taste mod in which the 16km mod is built in.

How can i solve this?

I have uninstalled the ftt mod and now its great but i am missing
the dragable tdc dials in the periscope screen.

Reece
09-08-07, 08:33 PM
Does the readme give details of the files that are modded? is the ftt mod JSGME or is it an exe file, what I would do if it's an exe file is:
Before installing ftt copy the env folder & files to the appropriate location in the SHIV Scene mod, then install the ftt followed by the SHIV mod & all should work.
If your not sure how to do this I could make a complete GWX SHIV 8k Scene mod for you & upload it!:yep:

Go into the REL_GWX_Flavored_to_Taste_FINAL\data folder and delete the env folder & contents, thats it.
Now enable the ftt mod then the SHIV Scene mod & all should be working now, the env folder & contents were added to the ftt mod for 16k atmosphere.
Hope this helps, any problems please let me know.:yep:

Reece.

Hope this is of some help.:D

Another bit of info is that this is more like a 9k atmosphere, as I had been told by SHIV mod members way back, I recently recieved this quote from Onelifecrisis:
It seems that your 8km SH4 scene.dat for SH3 has different visibility settings to the GWX 8km scene.dat file, so the crew spot things when normally (i.e. in GWX) they wouldn't.
Just thought I'd share this, I haven't noticed this myself so I'm not really concerned, some may like it others not, but thought I'd mention it!:yep:
Cheers.

onelifecrisis

It was the night-vision that really concerned me. I'm still not 100% sure it was your mod that caused the problem - I posted a thread asking whether your mod could be the cause (the thread titled "Night Vision in GWX") but I think the GWX crew were too p!ssed off at me to reply. So I disabled your mod to be on the safe side, loaded up SH3, started a mission... and realised I couldn't live without it! It's just too damn gorgeous! :yep:

60 seconds later it got re-installed for good. :D

Reece I tried to PM you but your inbox is full.

About this mod: I like it a lot as you know but it is a bit too reflective for my taste, and I noticed that you included two versions, "standard" and "more reflective" however when I enabled these versions I could see no difference between them, even when comparing screenshots side-by-side. Also today as you know I discovered the tweakfile which you included and I looked at the values in the two versions of the scene.dat file and, sure enough, all the values I've looked at are exactly the same! Are you sure you didn't accidentally put into the zip two copies of the "more reflect" version?

Reece
09-12-07, 07:08 AM
Knowing me I could have fluffed it, I posted the tweak values in an old post, just do a search, all of the variables to tweak are shown!:yep:
I have cleaned out the messages so can pm me if you still have problems & I will send values to you.:D I will be releasing a new version later (probably weeks) but as you know I have a lot of other jobs to do first.:yep:

Just a small appeal to all the mode constructors:

More and more, there are ridiciculous tirquoise "mediteranean" sea color, which basically does not exist, displayed all over the forum screens...

I use to live 28 years under, at and above mediteranean seas, so I bet that:
- at shallow beach lines you can see all sorts of colors...
- but at operational sub depth (30-120 m) sea color is the the same as in mid Atlantic, i.e. clear dark blue (Antartic clear blue, as forum would call it...)

Only exception are sandy, shallow coast lines at Northern Italy and African coast line... which have some dark greenish tone.

But otherwise, the sea color is clear blue... far away fom that tirquoise fable mockery that we can see at our forum screens...

That color really might exist at Hawai beach resorts, Great Barrier Reef and... Pamela Anderson underwear!

Greetings from Malta, center of all the combat Med. activities:

And you have "intimate knowlege" of said underware...?:D I agree about the water color. Im also wondering if the water distortion effects from IV could be used in III...say under water and on the peri lense. By the way, we want pics of those undies!

Hey sailor, Kriegsmarine will not tolerate such an attitude... Allied forces are taking control of North Atlantic and you are focused on ladies underware!
Bay Watch has nothing to do with US Navy.
However, thanks for demistifyng that funny Med color...

Ok ressurecting an old thread here but....
Does anyone know how to adjust the water fog density for this mod, the supplied minitweaker file cant fo it as it only has a value for fog-start, to change the fog you need fog-end values too.

With stock scene.dat id use sh3commander and have the water set at a realisticly murky 3 but sh3cmmdr wont work with this mod... im not a fan of the very clear waters, its like diving in a swimming pool!
...so any suggestions on how i change it??

Reece
01-18-08, 06:03 AM
Just find an Envcolor_*.dat that suits your taste, don't need to play with the skycolors, doing so may cause problems especially with 16k & 8k versions. I like some of Krillers water mods, they reduce visability slightly but appear kinda murky, there are many others, hope this helps!:yep:
