My crew refuse to mount it.:damn: I guess I will move aft when I reach port, but this is annoying.

I usually start my campaigns in a tambor and always mount a 4" in the front at the start - never had a problem yet. Have you tried at the beginning of a campaign? If it fails there I would look at either mod conflicts - or do a clean reinstall and try agian.

This is a clean reinstall of SH4 patched to 1.2 (three days old, did a complete reinstall of Windows), and I only activate mods with JSGME. Right now I have:

-Beerys cameramod 4
-GreenLamp
-Ultimate SH4 soundpack
-Realistic battery life
-Smaller seabed rocks

Dont see why any of these would bother my Tambor, so ...

Whats your problem?
Can't you install the deck gun or does your crew not man the deck gun while on patrol?
If the last it's maybe the weather?
I noticed, that sometimes the crew is very afraid of getting wet... can you handle the gun manually?

The gun is there allright, but when I got back from patrol I moved it aft, and went out again, and now they wont man the gun there either, but I can fire it.

This happened from one patrol to another, without mods or anything in between.

Here is why they are not mounting it, there are no slots!

This is a known issue. I believe what you have to do is move the gun where you want it while in port, and then immediately go into the crew section and man it-fill all slots with crew. This should keep the slots enabled and let your crew man it while at sea. This has worked for me and I had the exact same problem.

Okay, thanks! Will have a go next patrol.

Interesting never seen that one before and at this minute I am sailing a Tambor, shame about me using the AA guns but I know it's not a bug that's how they were. Looks like my jolly crew get all the fun shooting planes down. ;)

:rotfl:

Anyway, the move-men-into-the-slots-in-port-trick, didnt work, as there were no slots there either. (Didnt help to change gun or anything)

But I got my mits on a new sub, so now I made sure there were men there when I changed the gun.

I have a strange one to report, today I started a new career in a Gar sub and saw it had a stern deck gun so I checked the crew gun slots were filled and they were so I bought a bow deck gun. The crew in the gun slots were moved to the damage team slots and no deck gun slots along with no deck gun. :-?

I think it works if you FIRST move the gun, and then put the men in the slots. Stupid bug, anyhow.

Tried that and result no deck gun slots.

Yeah, but was this after you first went out on patrol without filling the slots? My problem vanished when I got a Gato, and moved the gun, and then filled the slots pre patrol.

No first patrol as I wanted to change the deck gun first before setting out and insured the slots were filled, which they were.

Wierd, that worked for me and the Gato.

does it really make a difference, especially for steath underwater to place the deck gun ahead or behind conning tower?

Ducimus

Nope. The real difference is, do you want to use your deck gun offensivly or defensivly? Easier to chase down those san pans with a bow mount. :88)

Yep, that's all I use it for..Sampans or to finish a damaged merchant off.

is there a fix to this yet?

I was just awarded the USS Drum. The deckgun is placed fwd of the conning tower. Per old photos, the deck gun was placed aft.

While in port before my patrol, I "Overlayed" the aft gun selection over the bow gun to switch it, and I loose my ability to place crew members to man the gun.

For kicks, I placed the bow gun back over the aft gun, and the places come back with slots.

Seems to be a bug here, the original bow gun is not "removing" itself from the data files or something, when relocating afts.

Also, I got (2) AA guns, only one crew provision to man the aft, the fwd gun remains empty.

Any Ideas or something I missed?

Has a fix ever been found to this problem? I encountered it for the first time just recently - I swapped out my 3" stern deck gun for a 4" bow weapon, and now I can't move any crew members to it.

Hello? Anyone?

I've never even heard about that. But i'm sure that there is a fix for it.

From looking at your screen shot . there are no slots for your Gunners . Thats weird !!

Hello? Anyone? There's gotta be a solution for this.

As i've mentioned above, this is a solvable problem. It takes me 2 steps to do it.

1. In port, at the equipment (sub) screen, I move the gun where I want it.

2. Immediately go to the crew screen and move crew members in and out of the deck gun position. Even if they are already there, move them out and in. For whatever reason, this holds the slots open and they don't disappear. I don't know why some folks can't get this to work.

I had the original problem. Doing this has solved it and I haven't had it happen since. I always move a forward gun aft.

One caveat. If your gun slots are already missing, I do not think this will work. You must do this from the beginning of a campaign. It prevents it from happening but does not correct it.
