Small Mod Request

Hello all,

Long time lurker, 1st time poster.

I have a small mod request for SH4. I would like to see if it would be possible for someone to create for me the USS Eelfish, a fictional submarine in the Harry Homewood novel "Silent Sea." To me, it seems to be pretty straightforward. A mid to late war Gato with 5" fore and aft (keep in mind that while Homewood did account for historical facts, he took liberties here and there), a dual 20mm on the island foredeck and a 1.1 quad on the cigaret deck. I understand that creating a 1.1 would probably be an enormous amount of work, so I would graciously accept a single 40mm in that location, and I'm sure we would have to settle for 4" fore and aft. Maybe its possible to lift a 1.1 model off the early war carrier?

If anyone could give me a hand with this I would be most appreciative.

many here will give you all the help you need to do this mod yourself.

after all, you are asking someone else to devote many long hours of work to create a sub just for you.

think about it.

creating a new sub is not a mini tweaker mod job.

if you have the time to do it then the members here will be glad to tutor you on how to go about it.

I understand where you are coming from. I was thinking that it could be as simple as an alteration the timeline (to get the dual cannon) and the name of the sub could be changed.

At any rate, if you or someone else could direct me as to where to get started I would be grateful

it sounds like you have a good plan, look into the mods for new ship skins.

those are the guys with the talent to teach you how it is done.

the trick is to make it work properly in the game throughout the war so the cannon thing may be more than changing dates, you may need to copy and rename a sub file and tweak it to the weapons you want.

once your post is spotted you will get many offers of help.

I though Eelfish was a Balao, and Mako was a Gato. ;)

At any rate, in 1945 you can set up a Gato or Balao with dual 5 inchers, and as you know, the AA guns you can configure how you want.

I seem to recall someone fiddling with the availability dates for dual 5 inchers. Try the Search feature in the mods forum and you will likely find it.

Thanks Belgian. It looks fantastic. I plan on taking a look at those stock skins tonight. I may have to reread the book though, just so I can get a good idea.
