I'm just wondering... If MS Flight Simulator has the capability to load real life weather into the simulator with regular updates via online method, would it be possible in SH4 as well :hmm:

It might be possible for a stand-alone app do this, but handleing the 60 year time-shift temporal distortion would be a pain. Going backwards through Y2K and all that...

"The weather on September 14, 1942, at Tulagi, started off clear. Clouds started forming at 08:27, and...":rotfl:

Sorry, couldn't resist. I agree with Fearless; having a tie-in to current weather conditions across the world would enhance the immersion greatly. Of course time compression might cause some problems.

The time compression shouldn't be a problem as METAR data is downloaded for the whole of the planet at the time it is available. Basically the program would run at normal time and provide weather updates when available.

I'm not one of those who understands how those things work. My concern was just that if you leave Pearl Harbor and then time compress across the Pacific in a few minutes, the weather won't have gone through two weeks worth of change. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing; I was just pointing that out.

Just like in Flight Sim 2004: if I'm running a trip in real time but take three days off for real life, when I go back to it it's either three days behind or I have to artificially bring it up to date. Just one of those silly things we live with.

Understood. I was just trying to see if it was possible to get realistic dynamic updateable weather into the game.

A bigger problem would be since you can travel across so many areas in the game using time compression, it would constantly have to download new weather for each different zone, and you might end up crossing an invisible line and changing from clear skies to monsoon instantly.

Let's not forget the 60 year time continuum they program would have to go through....

Why??? I'm talking about life weather updates now not 60 years ago. All it is, is a dynamic update of weather data produced by Metar Stations around the world which when uploaded in the simulator, produces the clouds, sea states, wind conditions etc in the game at the time it is available.

Topic ended. I don't think you people get the gist what I'm talking about. Oh! sh*t I forgot about greenhouse effects I might as well try and get the ice age in it as well :damn: and bythaway, does MSFS 2004 show greenhouse effects when it loads METAR data??????????? Neil please lock it.
