:up: Did you script these or are they played randomly? I'm asssuming you scripted some of it since you have .ini text messages. I'll definitely check this out when uploaded. Good luck with the huge upload :damn:

Ok, not to be a big jerk or anything, but I'm a bit suspicious that you downloaded my washington radio mod (and possibly others) and added to it. If you did, I don't mind, I'd just appreciate a hat tip to the effort I put in.
I say this because your russian station has the same exact 49 songs mine did. I find this to be highly unlikely because the russian songs were downloaded from a site that had 1000's yet somehow you got the same 49 all named the exact same?
Is this the case or am I imagining things?

It could be. There may be. I don't remember where I got it all. Scripted through till next week sometime after the war. If I threw some of anyone's work into this pile I hope some of it was mine!! Don't tell Captain Midnite where I am either...

I'll download and take a look. If you used earlier versions of my washington mod as a base and used my events.ini without looking them over, you will get some CTD's with this mod. I'll see if I can figure out if you did.
The russian station matching exactly my russian station is too much of coincidence. Seems like common courtesy to me that you should mention you are combining, editing, adding to other people's mods to make this mod, then list the names of the people that put effort into the mods you are using as base for your own mod. Also it probably would have been a good idea to ask those people first if you could use their mod as a base for your own.

I wouldn't mind taking some of the credit myself but I copied all of this from other people's homework. Hey, I'm not stupid! There are some modding etiquette guidelines here.
Several modders here have gotten into rather passionate arguments over things like this and left this community. I think it would best for you to follow those guidelines when posting mods here.

Ok yeah, I know about oldtimeradiofans. You did not get 49 russian songs from there.
All I'm asking is that you follow the guidelines here and list the names of the people that put time and effort into the mods you used as a base for your mod. I don't think that is unreasonable.
I did not want to start quoting your posts but I think I will now. I like how you edited out the part about stealing other people's work and then running really fast.

Some of these radio programs may be from mods here. I compressed all the sound files smaller and scripted most of them in. I was wondering where I found all that Russian music...
This mod is untested!

[NEWS]
Title=May 1st, 1945
Body=The British Broadcasting Company has just reported that Adolf Hitler died of a stroke at the Vice Chancelery in the burning heart of Berlin. The German radio at Hamberg a few minutes earlier simply stated that he had died at his command post quote, "Fighting up to his last breath against Bulshavitten". The German radio then added, that Admaril Carl Junmit, the former commander of the Nazi navy had been appointed as Hitlers' sucessor, and had pledged himself to carry on the war against the British, Americans and Russians. Hamberg said significantly, that Hitler had appointed Junmit his sucessor yesterday, monday. Junmit with part of his with heads of the BBC states in the past few minutes, that Admaril Junmit made the announcement personally over the Bruman radio in northern Germany, indicating that the fight will be directed from the north. Only last week the most prominate Nazi military commentators through un-reas' of the American 9th army, said Hitlers' death would mean the end of German resistance. We emphasize however, there has been no Allied confirmation of the German story of Hitlers' passing.

Check file sizes? Why? I understand what you did, you took mods from other people and compressed them. Then possibly you edited and added some of your own work, not sure on that yet. File sizes will be different, I understand that.
You seem to be missing the point though, all you have to do is acknowledge the work others did and list their names. If you do not know the names of the people that put work into the mods you use as a base for this mod, I can probably come up with a few names for you. Then just list them in your readme and your post announcing this mod. Something like I want to thank the following people for the work they put into the various mods I used as a base for this mod. Then list their names and explain your mod combines the work of these people.

I didn't keep a record of everwhere I gathered these sound files. I just downloaded them, made them smaller and wrote the script files based on what people were doing here. Of couse I thank everyone for all their work and ideas that led to all this. Sorry if I used some of the sound files anyone else has submitted but I thought some may enjoy these Real brodcasts as more than an addition to the game. Some may consider these broadcasts more valuable in historical principals because they are genuine.
I got them from every mod I could find on this site!

and who was that guy that made radiostations this way? I liked him!!! Blame him if it doesn't work :o

Some may consider these brodcasts more valuable in historical principals because they are genuine.
I got them from every mod I could find on this site!
Rotten me!
Normally there is a read me file with author's name. Please give appropriate credit were credit is due. This is all we ask when using others work concerning modified files.

Finally downloaded the whole thing and looked over it.
Looking at the radio.ini, it is pretty apprarent to me that it is a very slightly edited version my radio.ini from an earlier version of my multistation radio washington mod. I suggest you tighten up the US Bouganville station by getting rid of the empty line before the musiconvolumenews.
By comparing the events.ini, looks like you are using Von Manteuffel's Command Performances mod.
By comparing the events.ini, looks like you are using my BBC station from the radio washington mod.
The russian station is from my radio washington mod.
By comparing the events.ini, looks like you are using my Superman station.
By comparing the events.ini, looks like you are using my tokyo station from the radio washington mod with some added files of your own. I suggest you look into this station as this station will cause a crash to desktop because one of the sound files is missing.
By comparing the events.ini, looks like you are using my washington station from the radio washington mod. You did create new text messages for radio messages, but there are some that are just edited versions of mine.
Now you did edit the file names in the events.ini, but the dates, times and order the files are played are the same. Where I noted the file length in a comment, you noted the file length. Where I failed to note the file length on a few files in random spots, you also failed to note the file length.
Basically you did a copy and paste on the events.ini and replaced the sound files with the ones you compressed. I would appreciate you giving me credit for the work I put into these events.ini files by saying your mod is based on my work where appropriate. I would also suggest crediting Von Manteuffel for the command performances mod. I have a sneaking suspicion the submarine sound effects files you used are from a previously released mod too, but I did not look into this.
I appreciate the effort you put into compressing these files, but I don't appreciate you taking the work I and others did and taking credit for it.

Cheers tedhealy for taking the time to check. No one wants to be a police here, but a lot of thinking and time goes in to all work released here, which is FREE for any one to use, so its not a big effort to just write a couple of lines to cred the guys that spent that time and energy finding and doing this stuff.
Check this thread unless you have already have...my guess is that you missed it.

I don't want the download closed, I just want BlightLightning to credit the original modders he based his mod off of. Be aware this mod will cause CTD's because of the tokyo station though.

Most of the Event.ini's are created from a dir list to insure no files are missed.
Here is the small batch file used:filename Dir.bat

please,gentlemen,don't close the download before i can finnish part 3 and 4(i reached my limit for this month):damn: :damn: :damn:
I am greatfull to all who put his effort into this mod,up to the guys who brought the Sherlock Holmes stories during the war...
I don't want the download closed, I just want BlightLightning to credit the original modders he based his mod off of. Be aware this mod will cause CTD's because of the tokyo station though.
I don't remember them all. There were too many!
Remember the Sound folder. These mp3's are 100 meg smaller than the origonal game wav's! Quite a few mp3's wouldn't you say? Most of these are 4 to 20 times smaller. Think Disk Space...

It might be and all that. But let me try to see if I get U right here. You say its to many Mod makers that did this stuff and therefore you will not mention them as you don't remember...is that correct?
tedhealy
06-25-07, 01:56 PM
Do I need to start pointing out specific evidence where our mods are exactly the same? Why are you even disputing this when you admitted to swiping them to begin with? Is English not your primary language? Are we losing something in translation? I pointed out quite a few mods of mine you used and one of Von Manteuffels. All I am asking is that you credit us and any others you have swiped mods from. Why is this so hard for you to do?
I understand you compressed the files and changed their names, but the event.inis are the same.

Needed it in a hurry. My sister wants a copy of all the programs as well to listen to while she drives someone elses truck all over the east coast... This collection is worth more in mp3 than game value to her and I'm better at digging stuff up than she is! So there you have it. From a computer game to a collection of historic radio broadcasts. Just burn the mp3's on cd and play them nearly anywhere...
Attach shows to e-mails and such.
Guess I worked on that one a little too hard!

Let me say from the start that I have no problem with anyone taking my work and developing it, provided they have the common courtesy to nod towards such small contributions as I manage to make. I can confirm Tedhealy's assertion that existing files and structure were used in this mod. My Command Performance station is there in full. The Mod even uses the same file.names I invented:
CP4200142.mp3
CP4200242.mp3
CP4200342.mp3
CP4200442.mp3
CP4200542.mp3
The use of yy...prog No...yy was, in fact a mistake when I was naming the files. I wanted all the 1942 files to list in order, but first put the Prog. Number then the year. Of course, when I put them all together with the 1943, 1944 & 1945 audio files all the 001 yy files listed first then 002 etc. To put it right I simply added the appropriate year (42, 43, 44 or 45 ) to the front of each file-name, not bothering to remove the year after the Programme Number.
So, as far as I can see, all that has happened to the Command Performance audio files is that they've been re-processed, probably through a batch converter - quick & easy. As I've said, I don't mind - changing from .ogg to .mp3 gives smaller files and is a legitimate development; but courtesy demands that the work I originally did should be acknowledged.
I can fully understand Tedhealy's unhappiness since he has led the way in this particular area and has contributed a huge amount of material, as has CaptainCox. If BlightLightning credits no-one else, I believe he should recognise their massive contributions.

The courteous and respectful thing to do here is to aknowledge the input of the other modders into your mod, BlightLightning. subsim has a code of ethics in these matters, and our newer members are sometimes unaware of that fact.

Great collection don't you think?
Yes, a great collection of other collectors work here at Subsim modding forums and what you have added. Please credit those that took the time to collect this music and posted here for all to use.....with one stipulation, if used for additional mod work please credit the modder whos file you used. This is just a respectful approach to developing mods above and beyond what was originally created.

I think I'll avoid Blight's "mods" :stare:
Blight, it is easy to give proper credit. I "modded" Hitman's AOB whiz wheel, with his permission and knowledge, converting it from .bmp format to DeltaCad format to get a little bit "crisper" printout. Thread where Hitman and I discussed it is here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=116542
1st thing I've ever contributed to the community, and here is what I put in my "readme":
Hi, I'm DirtyHarry3033 of Subsim.com. I've taken the liberty, with Hitman's permission, of converting his AOB whiz wheel calculator into DeltaCad format. The advantage (and only reason I did the conversion) is that a CAD file prints out razor-sharp whereas the .bmp version is slightly blurry. I'm sure that's only my obsession with "perfection", Hitman's .bmp's work perfectly. I just wanted to get that extra millimeter of perfection with respect to the appearance ;^)
Descriptions of slight appearance-related mods I made follow, along with the link to download the needed CAD program, and the limitations of the demo version.
I finish up with:
Regarding usage/distribution, this is NOT my work, it's Hitman's - all I did was convert his work to CAD format with his permission. So I'll quote Hitman's readme here:

These wheel templates can be freely hosted and distributed by anyone as long as:
1.- It is not modified without my knowledge and permission.
2.- No money is made out of it without my permission.

DHSome are edited, some are replaced some are platforms and some are added whole. It is the way I have modded the game I play and there are 20 unknown, 30 difficult to find and more than 150 mods! I did check the text files to be sure I didn't use anyone's work who did not want this...

yanno, i'm thinkin we should hold an Article 32 hearing to see if there's sufficient cause to shut this guy down. nowhere have i seen anything that remotely looks like credit deservedly being given to those who did these mods, by name, in any of his posts. anyone new coming here, or looking for SH4 mods on filefront, might very well think this Bright did them himself

I didn't particularly want to do this, but here it goes. The song/show files are easy to download, the hard work and time put in comes from scripting these shows in files called event.ini.
====================
His adventure station and event.ini is significantly different enough from my adventure station. They do combine the same programs (Terry and the Pirates, Ellory Queen, World Adventure Club), but they are played at different times, the file strucutre is different, and there appears to be a significant number of different files. No qualms there.
=====================
His AFRS Command Performance station is the same as Von Manteuffel's. As Von Manteuffel laid out, it is the exact same file naming structure VM came up with.

As you can see, the exact same. The whole file is like this. BL has simply compressed VM's mp3 files, copied VM's event.ini and passed it off as his.

BL's BBC station has 96 files, 95 sound files and 1 event.ini. The exact same number as my BBC station. BL's audio files are renamed to the only the date, whereas mine contain the date and a description for the most part. Looking at a small sample from the files, they are from the same dates and times. A coincidence? Perhaps, but looking at the event.ini

The same files (with different names) are played at the same times on the same dates. And it goes on like this for all 95 sound events the whole war. You may say, "hey tedhealy, those files are meant to played on thoses dates, this proves nothing!"
Ok sure, if you want to disregard that the days and times are the exact same, go ahead. But he also has the same syntax error in this file that I did from an earlier verstion.

Notice the StartDate line with the "026" as the date the sound plays. This is a syntax error and this file will not play on this date and may cause a CTD.
He also has files that have no exact broadcast date played the exact date and time I selected to play them. See the december 16 EVENT above. That sound file only had a december date, we both somehow choose the 16th to play it, fancy that.

===========================
BL has a CBS news station, hollywood station, and los angeles station. I did not examine these closely, but a quick glance reveals some similarity to my earlier hollywood mod with both a hollywood and los angeles station, but they are significantly different enough that I make no claims here. I am unsure if BL's CBS station is similar to CaptainCox's CBS mod.
BL has a 'Nip_Island folder, I have a jmusic folder serving the same purpose - random music. I make no claim here other than the similarity in file/folder structure.
===========================
BL has a russian random music station with 49 songs. I have a random russian music station with 49 songs. Every song is exactly the same. I downloaded these songs from
http://www.sovmusic.ru/english/alphabet.php?letter=D
Go through the site, there are probably 1000 songs on there from 20th century russia. Not all are world war 2 songs and I did not download all ww2 songs. I hand picked some 200 songs from various parts of the alphabet to download. I then weeded out some 150 songs to come up with the 49 I used. I tried to get a wide variety of musical styles rather than hearing a variation of the same song over and over.
I find it impossible that BL would have picked the same songs I did. I doubt he even knew where those russian songs came from (as he indicated in an earlier post).
There is no event.ini with this russian station as it is just random music, I only claim this as further evidence that he is using my mod as his own. It very well could be a coincidence that he sifted through hundreds of songs and got the same ones I did, but I sincerely doubt that.
At least hat tip tedhealy as these are identical, I spent hours downloading and weeding out these songs, BL did not.

As you notice the same files are played on the same dates at the same time. Not only that, these super man files are not played on their original air dates as indicated in the file names. Yet BL has chosen the exact same dates as I did play these files.
And it goes on like this for all 86 sound files. The exact same. BL's one missing file comes at the end of the war. I played a final superman show in august of 1945, BL does not have this file. I guess he got tired of copying and pasting.

=============================
BL has a Shadow station. I have a Shadow station. This one is different enough that I have no complaint here. Some of the same files are played on the same dates, but he has about double the number of files I have. There are some odd coincidences here and there like a files from pre-war years that are played in in the same month and year between our mods, but it is changed enough that I make no claim. I would only guess he used my mod as a base and added to it and edited it, but that is just a guess.
==========================
BL has a Tokyo station. I have a Tokyo Station. He has a few more files than me and the Japanese audio files that are out there are few and far between. It comes down to the event.ini's again.
Because there were so few tokyo rose sign on/sign off clips out there, I decided to rotate them on a weekly basis. A sign on one week, a sign off the next. There are only about 5 or six of these. He has the exact same random rotation of sign on/sign off's that I do, once again on the same days and times

And it goes on like this the whole war. I used a different sign and sign off randomly, sometimes sign on/sign off 01, sometimes 02, sometimes 03. He has the same order.
I say that is my old tokyo event.ini because there is a sound event that is called that is not in my mod. This produces a CTD when the file is supposed to be played. I fixed this in later versions. BL has the same problem. At this point I'm not going to point out the file, he can find it on his own if he wishes.
Oh, and for some reason he scripts sound events to november of 1945, not sure why on that.
BL did add some of his own work on this, but my mod is the base, credit tedhealy (except when you get a CTD, then curse BL)
===============================
BL has a us_island station/folder. I used to have one in my early version of multistation washington. I abandoned this setup for several reasons. No real complaints here other than further evidence of the similarities of the mods.
==============================
BL has added to the default washington radio station, as have I. He has added some text messages that go along with the radio messages. Some are similar to mine, some are not.
Some examples, BL's at the top, mine at the bottom

You could aruge that he is summing up the radio broadcast as am I, fine, but it is a nice coincidence considering the body of evidence of his past swipings.

Again, the whole file is like this. He has missed a few files I had, but I'd guesstimate a 95 to 99% match. Perhaps these were files I added in a later version, I'm not sure on that.

He got sneaky on this one. Some of the stations names are different, but he left the frequencies the same (not to mention the format of xx 111.11 xx), and many of the latitude/longitude/station power are the same. The lat and longitude are not necessarily at the correct location on the map, BL has copied them straight from me.
EDIT I provided the latest example of my radio.ini where I dropped the values after the decimal places in latitude/longitude, but many are the same. BL HAS edited some of the lats/longs himself for some new locations.
He did change MusicVolumeOnNews.
See http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=109256
for the work I put in on this.
Granted, the station names and frequencies do differ between our radio.inis, but it is pretty obvious he copied mine, then edited it as his own.
This one I dont' mind too much, but at the very least a hat tip to me would be nice. One, for coming up with the "magic slahses" for sound events for different stations pulled from the same folder would be nice. I doubt BL stumbled on this himself. And two, for the general format he used of dividing up the stations
See
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=108863&page=2
for explanation of magic slash
At least a hey thanks tedhealy for the work you put in on the radio.ini would be nice.

I almost forgot, there are new sound effects files included with BL's mod too. I wonder if these are just compressed stock sounds or also swiped from another mod? It's a bit funny that BL includes sh.sdl file.
EDIT
Listening to the emergency dive file, it's from U-571 movie, so whoever's mod included that, you have been swiped from too. I'd guess the other files are swiped right along with that.

Whoah! This thread is very confusing for a lamen like myself. Now, I've downloaded the MOD but haven't installed it yet after reading some of this stuff about people's hard work not being acknowledged. So, am I right in saying that Blue-Lightining has put together the best radio MOD yet, whilst standing on the shoulders of other modding community giants? I, like many others, have been waiting for someone with the necessary skills to realise the potential of SH4's Radio system. Am I right in thinking this MOD is as close as anybody has currently got? I'm not happy about the lack of respect shown to those involved in the development process though. Maybe Onkel Neal can adjudicate on this one?

subsim asks that all modders respect the work of others and give credit where it's due. This happens on a daily basis, and our talented modders receive the written aknowledgement they are entitled to when new mods are created that include existing mods.
On rare occasions, we encounter a new modder who either doesn't get it, or who thinks that crediting the original modder or modders is not required. In this Forum, it is required if the member is to become a respected member of the modding community.
We can't force BLIGHTLIGHTNING to do the right thing here, we can only hope that he does. If he doesn't, then it would become an issue for Neal to assess what action should be taken.

The best radio mod yet? Hardly. Definitely the largest.
Download it, use it, whatever, I don't care anymore. I'm actually a bit more surprised at the subsim response here. This character has shown he has no intention of crediting those he stole from, rather he enjoys mocking the whole thing with his nonsensical responses.
I understand you can't force him to follow the "guidelines" but I don't understand why he is not banned (along with his ip because a troll like this would re-register with a new name in no time). I also don't understand why this thread is not locked or deleted.
I will make this as plain as possible. BL downloaded mods by other people, he compressed the mp3 files, he then lightly edited *some* of those mods (many are straight copy jobs), and added some of his own work. He then zipped his file directories including the mod files and stock files and he now posts them as his own. He basically danced around the subject and admitted what he did early on, but then had enough sense to eventually evade and pretend ignorance. Ignorance is not an excuse anymore, I have pointed out specific mods he has stolen from me and others. If he wants to say this is just an archive of historic broadcasts for history buffs, fine, then remove the stolen event.inis.
