I know you cant do it in the game but is there away to tinker with the files and do it?

What exactly are you after. Just swap towers from lets say an early version to a later tower or?

I received a Turmumbau III conning tower and it changed the sub dramatically. Cut the crew in half, no radio room. What is this all about?

Then the crew gives 'cannot comply' messages after starting a new mission.

that is an Ubi unexpected feature (aka Bug).

hopefully, you have saved your game prior to the decision to accept the change.

if not, there is very little you can do with that savegame, unless you are very adept at editing ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc file.

Thanks, I thought that was probably it. It doesn't give me the option to take the conning tower. It just gives it to me. Can't hurt messing with the file if I take the right precautions. My crew is doing really well and I would rather keep them and the boat. I don't use external views or anything. I only have targeting and maps enabled. Other than looks, I don't know what the new conning towers do.

here is another suggestion: since your boat-type did not change, make a copy of the current ActivePlayer file and then copy the previous ActivePlayer.upc from the pre-change folder to the current folder. it will be interesting to see if you get upgrades (again) after your next mission.

conning towers control certain weapons, like flak guns, and change the outward appearance of the boat to make is less conspicuous.
so, if you, like me, do not use your flak guns, then copy-paste and carry on, Herr Kaleun.

Well... I looked and searched every way I know and can't find the ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc anywhere... Where is it??

Everytime I ask.. THEN I find it! :/\\!! :/\\!!:D

I edited this to remind myself where to look when this happens!

Replacing the ActivePlayer with the older one worked! AND it didn't give me a new conning tower when I docked without going anywhere!

Is there a way to get the Deck Watch to automatically all go to the berthing area on the Type IXC when a crash Dive is called away? Getting away from Europe is fraught with aircraft homing in on radar!

nope.
this is not SH3.
you must move each crewman.
on a positive note....you can press F7 (crew mgmt) then Pause (bksp) and move any crew around while at Pause. this kinda-sorta emulates your crew moving on their own for a crash dive.

... and you really should move them, and the gun crews if placed, if you expect a depth-charging or bombing, since those external positions are "un-armored" and the crew members are much more susceptible to injury unless you bring them indoors... :arrgh!:
