Well I got bored and made a quick little mod that adds a new more detailed lighthouse to SH3…

Really good work!!! You are one of the best "eyecandy producers" for SH3, and the best is, that you give your artwork to everyone!!!!:rock: :rock:
But pleaaaase would you be so kind to release a version with red/white colour?!
In my opinion that is "the" colour for lighthouses.:up: :up:

Well, it looks nice, but I can see that it's built inside the harbour_kit.dat!
Would it be possible to have as lighthouse2.dat ?
I mean so that one could have it as single lighthouses to place around the world...
Also because the SH4 harbour mod modifies this harbour_kit.dat as well....

+I dont think its possible to give the lighthouse a totally seperate .dat although i guess i could create a new land unit type.
I suppose you could just import it into your existing harborkit.dat file using pack3d, that way you wouldnt overwrite any other mods that change this file.

May I ask how much of a frame rate hit in harbour this mod makes,it looks truely wonderful but I already get a bit of stuttering in harbour so,can I do it:hmm:

The reason while I asked was also because Sergbuto had succes with extracting the original lighthouse as a lonely building to place in the game, so I wonder, if it could be done again with this one! Maybe you could ask him!?

nikbear: to be honest there seems virtually no performance hit even on my old slow pc,
maybe a slightly longer load time as the texture is around 12mb (2048**).
Its roughly the equivalent of adding a couple of ships to your harbor (approx 20k polys)
the warning in the readme is playing it safe and really only applies to folks who are below the minimum spec.

Moin Moin, I have a big problem with this mod....
I reinstalled SH3 but i think i lost this mod. All I have left of it is the Readme file, where it says that version 2 has to be installed on version 1, but as I said, I lost both. Just can't find them. :damn:
to make it worst, the dl link provided by Flakmonkey gives an error, so I can't dl v1 nor v2 or the red version.
Does anyone wknow why? Can anybody give me an alternate link to get this beauty?

BTW, earlier in this thread something was written about making a separate lighthouse unit, without replacing existing model(s). It´s certainly possible.

Yup, its in GWX2 (but with a lower res skin).
It used to be hosted on UBRS until the site dissapeared, now the only place that it can be found is as part of GWX2.
(The stand-alone version would not have been GWX2 compatible anyway since it replaced the whole harbor_kit.dat file)

I may have both original versions tucked away somewhere. I'll check later.
Sorry FM, I just had to reduce the texture from 2048 when it went into GWX.;)
If anyone has this file, you only need to extract the lighthouse model & texture and import them back into your choice of Harbour_kit.dat.

Dat file removed (GWX 2 already has it) and both red and Black high res skins are included. Dont know much about polgon thingy mi jigs but ive tested this and seems to work fine on mine!! :up:
Just wanted to say thank you to Flakmonkey for this great mod, ive always liked it and its one of the things that really makes my game worthwhile when I return to port. :rock:

XIII In the folder Lighthouse the folder Data is incorrect, change it to data:up: Also the Tex folder should be spelled tex.

If you have GWX 2.0 they are ingame allready,
As for the download, I downloaded them both today, so they work. try again, until it works.

I refreshed the JSGME folder structure in case anyone had any problems. The links in my above post (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=824624&postcount=50) now reflect this.
GWX 2.0 does already have these lighthouses but they are low res versions.
These modification files offer the original high res lighthouses by Flakmonkey and also a choice of red or black.
There was no doubt a very good reason why the GWX team chose the low res versions, most likely due to frame rates and giving best performace on low end systems. For those who have a hgiher spec these are for you.

That is exactly the reason why GWX did not increase the resolution of any skins beyond what they were in stock Silent Hunter III.
