View Full Version : diving in the Type IID - can't get down!

I just started a Black Sea campaign and am loving it. But I'm having a weird issue with the Type IID. When I order a depth I end up diving a _lot_ shallower than the ordered depth - like with an order of 130, I was going down and leveling off at ~95. I don't knonw what the discrepancy is exactly, but it's about 30-35m. In order to get down to a safe depth (120m), I had to order a much deeper depth (230m) and then order to hold depth at 120m. With the shallow depth meter, ordering 25 resulted in a depth of 20m.

I'm using GWX 1.03 + Nvdrifter's Longer Repair Time mod + depth charge shake mode (weaker). Is this a known problem with the Type II, or am I havin some unexpected mod interaction?

Enable the "GWX - Reduced Positive Bouyancy" optional mod that came with GWX in your "MODS" folder.

You may have a mod conflict. I cannot say for sure, due to the non-GWX bits.

As mentioned in a previous thread, the "reduced positive bouyancy" optional mod will become part of default GWX when v1.04 is released.

Hmmm... I installed GWX 103 and I don't have a reduced buoyancy mod in my MOD folder... or anywhere else that I could find. Is this available separately?

That sounds strange, after installing GWX 1.03 I had every optional GWX mod in the mod folder. Including 'Reduced Postive Bouyancy'. But why installing that ? ;) the bouyancy (this word gives me hell -.-) is a nice feature, which concerns all sub types, not only the IID.
I tested it in a VIIC and this are some results:

depth set | depth the boat 'bounced up' to | difference-factor
15 12 1,25
90 73 1,23
140 115 1,21

EDIT: sry no serious text formating functions or I am missing something

That ratio looks a lot like what I was getting. It's a bit of a burn because you order a depth, and the diving officer should be able to make that happen, even if the boat is unusually buoyant;) Anyways, I used GWX 1.03 for a whole campaign before this, and as far as i remember, the depths were fine (i.e. you get what you ask for). I've installed the LRT 1.32 mod for my new campaign, which I think changes the buoyancy params. Therefore, I guess this is a 'conflict'. After all, LRT doesn't claim to be compatible with GWX 1.03. It only claims to work with GWX 1.02.

I'm really looking forward to GWX 1.04, which I've heard will have the LRT idea integrated. The main reason I wanted the LRT is that I've only been 'crushed' deep (> 300m), in 1 of about 10 careers. All the rest have been the disappointing shallow deaths from low HPs.

Still, I'll try the 'reduced positive buoyancy' optional mod when i get home (to port).

Thanks!
