Hey!!!! Where did that come from?
Nicely done!

Ohh, very nice. Looking forward to finding these guys in the campaign.
Just one more thing, that sub model looks awfully fimiliar. I swear I've seen it in another game before. :hmm:

What for? Then it will need retexturing.
How many beers would I have to buy you to make a coastal merchant or a sea truck :D

Indeed, you have a sharp eye, Sir. Often, there is no need to make a model from scratch, there are plenty at hand. It already takes a lot of work to even/only import them in the game.

Making a merchant/sea truck does not really sound exciting, especially when high quality (read a lot of work) is required to keep it on the same level as other shiping in SH4. But give it some time and I am sure quite a few things will show up eventually.
Heheh. Was worth a shot.

Pacific Storm have it.
Great job Sergei:up: Catching unaware enemy subs and blowing them was a non infrequent situation for US subs:)
Have you taken a look already to the enmy torpedo launch AI? Planes are able to drop torpedos, I have been told, so may be the AI routines could be ported to submarines?:hmm:

Excellent unit for SH IV. May be unit made for SH III and SH IV in 2 variants? When you u/l submarine?

and it is a great satisfaction to kill a submerged one.

I have not looked at that yet but I rather expect similar difficulties as for SH3 in this regard. I am mainly waiting for the 1.3 patch.

It is in a WIP phase now.

It will be called sub hunt. Trying to set it up where the JAP sub is heading to Midway Island and we caught wind of it in a Radio message intercept. And
our job will be to find it. I found a way to get the Sen Toku to not only
travel between nav points but there is a way to make it dive and surface
between some of them as well. So on our radar we will pick it up but then
lose it when it dive's and have to dive as well to use our sound equipment
to continue to track it. But this is taking time because there is a lot of testing
involved. I am also setting up the Sen Toku to have radar, and underwater
sound equipment and AI Visual so that means when they are in port like
when we go on a Photo mission they might notice or find our subs.

That sounds great. Pitty AI subs weren't in the game in the first place.

Is how I need to make this happen for one.
Another words should it be a failed mission if you don't sink it before it gets to a certain distance from Midway? Or second, should I set up a ship for it be be after specificly and then can I make the Sen Toku sink that ship? I know that Allied destroyers find it and go after it I already tested that idea.
I set up all the allied destroyers in my own game with the same sensors the JAP DD's have which was a problem once because I aproached an Allied port once underwater, because I was being plauged by JAP plane's from a Task Force, and had a DD come after me until I surfaced. Which was cool because I know in real life a couple of our subs were sunk by friendly fire.
I need to see how I can set up the Sen Toku with torpedo's and get it to use them
because to be honest I have never seen in the game anything use it's torpedo's other than a Torpedo plane. I have gone out of my way setting up situations where JAP task forces and Allied one's come in contact with each other like in the Solomons and the Coral Sea and never once did I see a Torpedo used even though
some of the ships have launchers. I have seen them Turn the turents for the launchers but never use them.
The next problem is how long are people willing to deal with a hunt mission like this?
I mean in my testing so far I have had to hunt it down for a couple of in game days
and I know most of the Sub's way points by heart so I can imagine how hard it would be for someone else doing it.
If doing the mission i'd want it to be a bit of a challenge so I personally wouldn't mind a long chase. Although I would really like AI subs in the campaign layer. It would obviously be rare to find them but is it at all posible to implement them into the campaign?
Same thing with giving allied ships the ability to find subs. It could cause bother if you were sunk by a friendly but it would be more realistic. You should know better then sneaking into friendly ports.

But like I said I was being seriously hounded by the planes from a JAP carrier task force right at the entrance to JAVA and was out of AA rounds all I could do was dive and hide but I had set up some DD's and a small DD task force to patrol there and they picked me up and came after me.
But yes it is possable to add the JAP Subs to the layers in the game and have them pop in from time to time but I have no clue what a random sub placment will react or do. When you set them up specificly in a mission you can get them to dive and what not but I don't know if they will do it on their own or attack anything.
I guess it is time to add one to a JAP layer and have it sneak into the Solomons and see if it will attack anything there after we have control of that area.
Getting the AI to use torpedos would be a major addition to the game, frankly.
That said, submarines that were sunk by US subs were either chance, or the result of ULTRAs. IN the latter case, the IJN had their subs meet rigid timetables of when to be on patrol at what spot. "Be at Lat/Long at noon, April 21" kind of stuff. We'd send a boat to Lat/Long, and sink him. Sometimes there'd be an end around to get in position.
The big problem is that we'd know (unless you get torpedos to work) that they were "safe." In RL, if you saw a periscope, you'd turn away and dive at flank.

As far as I can tell I know it sucks. If you fired at it under water it would have to be by sound fix and sonar only
A US boat would not want to fire on ANY sub it didn't ID on the surface for fear of attacking a friendly sub. The only exception would be ULTRA information since a specific sub would be tasked for a specific location intentionally to avoid overlap to prevent an accidental sinking.

in the history of the game you would ever encounter other subs i don't think you would have to worry about that.
Great work Sergbuto. Will keep an eye on this.

The addition would be enemy subs attacking friendly units, submerged. I'm not sure if submarine war: sub vs sub, was normal in that time.
