View Full Version : [REQ] A coastal freighter that might be easy?
Tyohei Maru in game is ~1700 tons. The game is really lacking coastal shipping under 1000 tons.
Tyohei Maru bears a remarkable similarity to a real set of ships labeled "Fox Tare Dog" by the US.
Tyohei Maru:

Some FTDs:

Look at the top 2. The in game unit is ~260 feet long. The FTDs are typically ~185'. Shorten the Tyohei Maru, while only dropping the beam by ~2m (squish it in the middle to make the superstructure smaller?). Move the masts to the edge of the forecastle and poop. Make longer single booms towards stack. Aside form any other little tweaks, that's it.
If only I had the 3D skills to do this, such small, coastal shipping was very common.

Nice pics tater, hopefully someone will get to this :yep:

I wish I had the skills to do this myself. Might be worth using to learn I guess.
Smaller shipping became a large % of the front line traffic after the beginning of 1943.

The how to clone FAQ goes to a thread about doing all kinds of hex editing stuff. I know pack 3d does it, can anyone point me at a FAQ for which version to use, step by step sort of stuff for pack 3d and cloning. Cloning is the first step, right? Then I need to figure out how to export it to something I can use with ac3d (which is all I have for 3d stuff) to see if I can do this myself.
Well, try and find Pack3D, I am using version 1 for all the files, except the jar, I am using 5Pack3D.jar which seems to have a clone option..though what it does, i'm not certain of yet
You may need a 3D modelling program too, 3Dmax, Maya, Wings etc
Problems are abound though, TMAPs are NOT exportable/re-importable using Pack3D at the moment...
There is good thread here:

Can't remember where I got Pack3D versions...
ah here it is.. diving ducks filefront page.. not sure if they contain all the necessary files though..

Man, that thread scares the hell out of me, lol.
That said, I did manage top open part of a jap ship in AC3D (a 3d program like 3DSM, only CHEAP, lol). I just need to figure out how to mess with stuff, then get it back in.
I didn't work on a "clone" I just copied a whole folder and messed with that.

oh yeah, its a steep learning curve, I'm still at the bottom of the curve, the experts are diving duck, the late privateer, UBOAT234, there are also some GWX peeps who never venture into SH4 forums, captain cox is learning it too...
There is one other guy who is working on an excellent looking tool but disappeared a few months ago... it looks real easy to use though..
the is very little ship modelling going on for SH4 at the moment. The texture mapping is a real problem for me... Can't figure out much... I cheated with that Akitsu rudder fix, that was just verticies and no changes to textures.
Looks pretty daunting, actually.
Shouldn't have left Sergbuto off that list of modelling experts should I...:o
