How do I change the Periscope and TDC labels to German? The en_menu txt doesn't seem to do it, cause when I copy and paste the German lines over..they are still English in the game..and when I check the en_menu after..it's back in English again!! Apparently it's not the right file:doh: Thanks guys..I know there are some smart cookies out there ......

IIRC you can set labels and sounds to german with SH3Commander

Hi there:
i have to agree with TarJak, since that is the best way to do it. Easy, painless, and you can modify them whenever you want. Just make sure to be in port when you do that. :up:

All I see in SH3 Commander is rank and medals and badges. I have both set to German. It is version 2.7. Do I need to update?

I mean...I know it can be changed in the game..but it changes the text also...and everytime I try, I get killed very easily cause I don't know what the crew are saying a lot of the time:doh:

I'm not sure I understand you right.
But for example, navigate to:

...:\Program Files\SilentHunterIII\data\Textures\TNormal\tex

..and find a file, called Placute.tga

Mine has a whole bunch of German labels (I'm playing SH3 with German voices and English texts).
Suppose this is what you are looking for, then your request is about textures, not texts.

Sorry Paajtor..thats not it. Wanna know how to replace FORE TUBES with BUG ROHRE in periscope view...also schubwinkel for gyroangle or some such in TDC.

this should be the right way - maybe you did something wrong...

It's possible that your 'en_menu.txt' is write protected. To remove that protection right click on this file, choose 'Properties' and remove the marking and click 'OK'. Then try again copy & paste the german lines over

Thanks Steel Bar but..I didn't see a write protection checkbox. The changes are saved in the file but change back again after you run SH3. 2010=SCHUßWINKEL

The en_menu.txt is the right file and those are the entries that need modifying.

Did you rollback SH3 Commander before making the changes? I think that SH3 Commander makes a back up of this file and can wipe out your changes.

If I remember correctly I had some difficulties when I modified my file in this way, so keep trying, it will work eventually.:up:
