Hey all

Ive been testing the different battleships against each other using the map editor and to be honist its got me quite confused :-?

Mostly between the heavy hitters like Iowa, Yamato and KGV

I know Iowa, while not as heavily armed as Yamato had superior Fire control and munitions that equaled the punch of yamato.... Which would explain why it normaly comes up on top in a one on one ;)

But the King george V class which while a heavy hitter again was hardly in the same class as the latter ships, yet it always comes out on top when fighting yamato class.... Infact i had about 8 other ships helping yamato and it still didnt take a scratch  Is there somthing wrong with its coding?

Also where abouts is the Colorado class battleships in the upcoming 1.3 patch going to fit in? :hmm:

Yup, it's a subsim not a BB surface gunnery sim. ;)

Heheh, true. OTOH, the IJN warships are pretty weak to guns in game. Look at a DD vs a sub deck gun...

Pretty much everywhere in the war: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_class_battleship

A wreck of a US BB would be more useful, IMO.

Unless there are jap subs to play, USN ships are window dressing. I never start inside PH anyway, cause it doesn't look like PH, though.

The land forms are there . . . but that's where it ends . . . imagine the codeing needed to actually give there harbors a realistic look . . . imagine going to San Francisco, seeing Alcatraz . . . and the Ferry Building

They could have built a decent PH wth what they had. they spent a lot of time to make the PH in game now. The problem was they added too much stuff. I think PH could be made much better by REMOVING buildings from the existing harbor objects.

Actually this is some pretty damn cool 'research'.

Id love to see screen shots / videos.

Let alone trying to figure out how to do it myself !

A modder made wrecked ships for SH3, maybe someone will be able to do a mod for wrecked ships in SH4:hmm:

In regards to the Iowa -vs- Yamamota, have to remember the Iowa Class was specifically produced to come up against and destroy the Yamamoto type dreadnaught.

I'd like to see some wrecks at Pearl at the beginning of the '41 campaign.

Uh??

No no. It was designed to:

1. being able to pass the panama canal.
2. to be able to escort carriers (speed wise).

PS: a small correction on your words, its Yamato and its a battleship.
Dreadnaught designation was use to large warships with heavy primary guns in turrets and light secondaries (5.5"-6") and minimal AAA.

It's called Yamato not Yamamoto (the latter was the head of the Combined Fleet).

how could the US design a ship to combat a ship they did not know about? :hmm:

yeah, i had a running deck gun battel with a DD that came up on me in foul weather. it got a few hits on me, nice holes in my hull, but i eventually sank it which prolly shouldn't have happened. i was running along at flank speed and range was well under 500yrds
