ALL MEDALS WITH CLASSIC CREW 1.1
Made by
CAPTAIN COX
Replacing the "Vanilla" medals with real ones.
Adding Realistic Crew Ranks (made by LukeFF)
Added better looking crew icons (made by the_belgian)

As I had to swap the medals around compared to "Real Medals Mod" I also had to change the "Menu.txt"

Creds to "LukeFF" for the "Realistic Crew Ranks"
Creds to "the_belgian" for the "faces in CrewSystemsManagement"
Creds to "fullmetaledges" as i used he's graphics here

Also to all the guys that thought about this idea in the first place, Beery, LukeFF etc.
All the 3D modders, DivingDuck, Anvart, privateer, UBOAT234 etc etc.
Cheers to Argus00 for the "Medal Code" in the CarrerTrack.UPC

To make this work properly you have to edit the "menu.txt"
Found here
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Menu
Called
menu.txt

Replace this code block (Do a search for "Medals" using "Notepad" to do this)
5150=Medals
5151=Submarine service medal
5152=Wounded medal
5153=Patrol star
5154=Medal of valor
5155=Campaign star
5156=Victory cross

With this
5150=Medals
5151=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5152=Purple Heart
5153=Silver Star
5154=Medal of Honor
5155=Bronze Star
5156=Navy Cross

Install:
Simply use with JSGME
If you don't have it get it here:

DISCLAIMER:
This mod can be included or used with other mods or mod packs
under the condition that CAPTAIN COX, LukeFF, the_belgian and fullmetalleges is mentioned as the creator/co-creator
in the read-me as well as in any release forum post related to the mod or mod pack

But about pictures ... What new, if you have SH4Medals.dds?

CaptainCox
06-07-07, 03:02 PM
You know what... I never saw the SH4 Medals until now :p Its not used in game. I guess it was leftover after the devs heard about the copyright issue (speculating here) The one used in the game is Badges.dds.

Ahhh, now I think i get it, this is where "fullmetaledges" got the graphics from...I think :hmm:

But to answer your question in detail, i had to tweak some of the "medals" in order to fit the 3D models, as i said its a beta, and as I could not export the texture coords, i had to make do with 2nd best. But it does the job, and in game it looks 99% ok i would say. The only problem is for the guys that like the setup from the "Real Medals Mod", not possible at the moment, not until someone figures how the this whole texcoord export stuff works.

Cap'n - when I went to check my current menu.txt (based on my tweaked RFB 1.28 install) I noticed that something very similar (but not exactly the same) had already been done, presumably by RFB 1.28 (since I have no change-log reference indicating that I tweaked those lines myself based on any other mod).

I haven't been awarded any medals via RFB 1.28 yet, so I don't know how that implementation works - do you know what's "wrong" with the RFB medals or what your beta mod does differently?

CaptainCox
06-08-07, 12:00 AM
The names used in RFB and Real Medals Mod are the same as this. But in the captain room screen RFB and RMM you still see the "STOCK" game graphics "fantasy medals" that where made up by the Dev's due to copyright issues. With this mod you now actually see the medals "graphically that correspond with what you see when you click them. For example in RFB you would be awarded

5150=Medals
5151=Purple Heart
5152=Bronze Star
5153=Silver Star
5154=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5155=Navy Cross
5156=Medal of Honor

Now you are awarded

5150=Medals
5151=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5152=Purple Heart
5153=Silver Star
5154=Medal of Honor
5155=Bronze Star
5156=Navy Cross

As I explained in the 1st thread this is purely due to the 3D models. My primary goal was to get the same order as the Real Medal Mod, but until someone figures how to properly export texture files for 3D models I am pretty stuck. Will keep trying but ;)

So in short.
This mod simply replaces the Stock Award with Real medals (all graphics, names and the 3D models in the Cptn Room Box, while the Real Medal Mod + RFB (uses RMM) has a different order based on the discussions here.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=109331

If you keep the script from RFB the names shown when pointing at the Medals in the Box will not be correct if you use this mod

Invalid Quickkey. This error has been forwarded to MediaFire's development team.

Afraid, I'm not able to get it. Can you upload again or try a different download site?

The medal silliness has always been a major wet blanket for me when playing. This is really nice. It just feels so much more right.

Just one little thing to point out there: the proper name of the latter #5155 is Bronze Star Medal. This is done to distinguish the medal from the bronze service stars that are worn on campaign medals or service stars.

CaptainCox, I've noticed something quirky with this mod. While the medal icons and names are fine for the crew, I've noticed that the medals awarded to the player have a problem. In this case, I was awarded the Purple Heart (correct, since my boat took heavy damage), but the medal in the box and on the award screen shows the Distinguished Service Medal. I tried tweaking Medals.upc to fix this (since this is where the game calls the medal names from for the player), but it didn't work out right. Is there any way to fix this?

Ach, sehr gut. ;)

I'm thinking a solution to the problem would be to re-order the appearance of the medals in the DDS files, but I don't know how this would affect their 3D appearance in the medal box. I'll just let you look at it. :D

Sorry slept in :p
May i just ask you, do you run the "Real Medals Mod" by Jimimadrid?
Cause that mod will sort of toss this up a bit.

When I did this mod I could not get the 3D data as i wanted it, so I used the "stock" order of the way you get the medals.

No, I just use your mod here.

The names and graphics are fine for the crewmembers, but the graphics are incorrect for medals received by the player (outside of the Silver Star, so far from what I have seen).

Ok, try this one (this is what I use myself) Could be that I did tweak that and forgot to upload it.
It includes your "LukeFF's" "Realistic Crew Ranks 1.3 (updated to 1.3a)"
and also the "The_Belgian's" "faces in CrewSystemsManagement"
Both are excellent mods and also because they use the textures need for this mod ;)

I am also not 100% here if you need to be in base to make this run properly. I guess it is better, just to be on the safe side!

Hmm, I just tried this out and didn't notice any difference. All of the files that affect the player's medals look just like the old files. Are you sure you uploaded the correct files for this release?

CaptainCox

Hm. I vaguely remember that I had something that you describe and fixed it, though I forgot to up it here. To tell you the truth 100% I am not sure :p

As it turned out the trip is postponed till the morn :(
Well this has the 3D models for the medals box in your office showing the correct stuff. Real Medals did only the graphic changes. But as i say in the 1st post this mod is not following the way medals are given as in Real Medals, its following the Stock game, as I could not get the texture to port properly due to TMAP probs using the Pack3D tool. This might change drastically when Skwasjer releases hes final build for S3D.

Will have a look at this now LukeFF

CaptainCox

@LukeFF Had a check, running the latest version of All Medals 1.1

I have only been awarded 2 medals as of yet and I have this in the box and when I click them
http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/9492/medal2bb4.jpg

Purple Heart

http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/3776/medal1vm3.jpg

Navy Cross

You mean you have a different medal in the box compared to the graphics when you click them?

Or do you mean you have another problem?
Maybe I misunderstood you here :oops:

LukeFF
08-08-07, 04:59 PM
You mean you have a different medal in the box compared to the graphics when you click them?
Yep, that's the problem. In my test run, I ram my boat up on the shore of Pearl Harbor, and of course that destroys the submarine. The following cut screen then shows the citation for receiving the Purple Heart, but the graphic is that of the NDSM. In my last campaign it was the same deal - returned to port, got the Purple Heart, but the medal in the box and the graphic in the award citation was the DSM.

What file(s) did you change for 1.1? All of the files for the player's medals in my zip file show June 2007.

CaptainCox
08-09-07, 02:37 PM
Again not sure man! I just remember I had some strange going ons and fixed it :oops:
But ok...ramming the boat sounds like a good test bed for this...let me try this for a bit and see what i get.

I also know for sure that you should most likely be in harbour for this to work, activate the mod i mean. I even had some crashes when I did it due to this.

I will report back ASAP!

EDIT:
Ok so i started a new career and just went full force in to the pen (at Pearl!)
I get the same medal in the box as in the pic as in the screen that tells you what you got etc etc. But what is totally amazing in this case is that I got
http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/1134/ndsmby8.jpg

Yes, i got the The Navy Distinguished Service Medal...FOR BANGING UP MY BOAT...BAAAAD!, now how is that possible. As you know I did not tweak the way you get the medals (will fix that as soon the new version of S3D is out)

But I do get what the game tells me that I should have.
As to what I changed i have to really dig here (comparing some files etc), as I said i totally forgot what it was.

Yes, i got the The Navy Distinguished Service Medal...FOR BANGING UP MY BOAT...BAAAAD!
Yep, that's exactly what happened to me. To help you out, I use the following text in menu.txt for the medals:

5151=Purple Heart
5152=Bronze Star Medal
5153=Silver Star
5154=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5155=Navy Cross
5156=Medal of Honor
This gives the correct names to the corresponding graphics for medals awarded to the crew. However, it results in the problem you have encountered above - the text in the citation says I have been awarded the Purple Heart, but the graphics show the NDSM. So far as I have seen and tested, the game is mixing up the names and graphics with the above text lines as follows:

Purple Heart > NDSM
BSM > Unknown
Silver Star > Working Correctly, no changes needed
NDSM > Purple Heart(?)
Navy Cross > Unknown
MoH > Unknown

Here's to hoping you get to the bottom of this. :yep:

My bad totally! :oops: I meant to check this out but got RL stuff in the way and then the thread slipped down... and there you have it. Will look in to it TODAY!...but after lunch :p

EDIT! just had to start a new career here, due to reinstalls and what have you. i will report ASAP when I get some medals to show.

I guess i could try that Pearl trick, but as i said I do get the same medals in the box as on the screen, only thing there is the medal I get is a bit strange as its the The Navy Distinguished Service Medal, should not really get that for banging up my boat. But that has nothing to do with the mod as that's what the game gives me.

Anyhow, I will check back as soon as i get something.

CaptainCox
08-16-07, 03:18 PM
Ok, finally made it back after my 1st patrol (after a clean install etc) and behold
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/2833/medal1dn3.jpg

http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/2124/medal2er2.jpg

And this is what I get in my medal box
http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/2645/medalboxoi9.jpg

so it all ads up. Now I am not sure why it doesn't for you LukeFF :hmm:
I checked my menu.ini and it has this
5150=Medals
5151=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5152=Purple Heart
5153=Silver Star
5154=Medal of Honor
5155=Bronze Star
5156=Navy Cross
I can't think of anything really that would cause the wrong medals to show up in the medal box. Here every thing stacks up as it should. I could of course report back after my 2nd patrol and see if something gets mixed up and what have you. But so far all seems ok.

LukeFF
08-16-07, 03:26 PM
Hmm, that is really odd. Can you double-check and make sure the files you've uploaded are the most current ones? Also, with the menu.ini like you have it, do the correct medal names show up for the crewmen?

This is what I'm using:

5151=Purple Heart
5152=Bronze Star Medal
5153=Silver Star
5154=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5155=Navy Cross
5156=Medal of Honor

CaptainCox
08-16-07, 03:39 PM
I think the culprit is in the Menu.ini
Mine

5151=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5152=Purple Heart
5153=Silver Star
5154=Medal of Honor
5155=Bronze Star
5156=Navy Cross

Yours

5151=Purple Heart
5152=Bronze Star Medal
5153=Silver Star
5154=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5155=Navy Cross
5156=Medal of Honor
Try to swap around to what I am having and do a test.

This is from my 1st post in this thread, as to the setting is the "Menu.ini" for it to work with the "Stock" medals.

5151=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5152=Purple Heart
5153=Silver Star
5154=Medal of Honor
5155=Bronze Star
5156=Navy Cross

That is exactly same as to what I am using.

LukeFF
08-16-07, 03:57 PM
Wierd, wierd, wierd...

I changed the menu.ini text around to match yours, and this is what I get after doing the ol' "run the boat up on the shore and destroy it" test:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/LukeFF/SH4Img16-8-2007_1356.4_234.jpg

Version 1.1 of your mod installed and enabled. WTH is going on here? :damn:

CaptainCox
08-16-07, 04:05 PM
That's what I got to doing the ramming exercise. I bet ya...Unplug the mod and try that again, ramming I mean, and see if you dont get the equivalent to the NDSM
...would be the "Submarine service medal" i guess. Then we know its not the mod. Because that's what the game would give you...stock that is!

Off to bed here, but weekend is looming up ;)
If you find something conclusive please post.

Cheers!

LukeFF
08-22-07, 12:27 AM
CC, I sent you a PM about this a day or two ago, so please check your Inbox. ;)

In addition to that, I think there still are some parameters that are messed up. I was awarded the Purple Heart after my last patrol (correct graphics, text, etc.), which was really strange because my boat didn't take any damage during the patrol, yet I sank about 7,000 tons of shipping. Sure enough, the CareerTrack file shows the following:

PlayerCurrentMedals=NULL,Bronze Star
[CareerTrack 1.CareerStatusSave 14]
ID=ID
Reason=CSS_Award
NameDisplayable=MT_BronzeStar
CurrentDate=1941-12-10 08:00:00
AwardReceived=MT_BronzeStar

So far that tells us the following, then:

-The game is showing and awarding the Navy DSM when it should be showing the Purple Heart (see above post).
-The game is showing and awarding the Purple Heart when it should be showing the Bronze Star Medal.
-As far as I can tell, the Silver Star is being awarded correctly.

Happened to me again on my last patrol. Returned to port, got awarded the "Purple Heart" a second time, and then I checked the save game file. Yep, sure enough, a second Bronze Star Medal was in the list.

I believe it does. I've got a version running on 1.4, and I haven't seen any issues with it. Maybe someone who knows more about the details could say whether or not it's fine, or if I just haven;t noticed how badly it's screwed up my game.

sorry fred forgot all about that ,promised to look at it for you, been busy at home, it works if you use this one

http://rapidshare.com/files/75673373/AllMedalsBeta_Revised.7z

all it is is the interior part of the mod removed and the system management dds altered. you have to edit your menu exactly as the instructions say ie :

change the following

From this

5150=Medals
5151=Submarine service medal
5152=Wounded medal
5153=Patrol star
5154=Medal of valor
5155=Campaign star
5156=Victory cross

To this

5150=Medals
5151=Navy Distinguished Service Medal
5152=Purple Heart
5153=Silver Star
5154=Medal of Honor
5155=Bronze Star
5156=Navy Cross

weve gone back 2 patches to the old medal order, thats why most of the medal mods are throwing a fit, surprised no one looked at the badges and crew management dds before this & never noticed it tbh. plus as the office has changed any interior like on this mod had to be removed.

should work ok like it is in the link.

I'm new here, so please forgive my idiocy if I have posted this in the wrong place, but what are the tonnage requirements, if any, for the bronze star and Distinguished service medal?

Could you repost that rapidshare file please?
