Hi,

I didn't find my problem already posted here somewhere.
I downloaded the DasBoot style sound mod and because I got SH3 crashing after installing this mod, I found a selection of speech files out of this mod which are most important to me and work well.
Since installing GWX and copying over the whole speech folder 'as is' from my backed up SH3 installation, some sounds just aren't played anymore.
For example: I still get the voice messages for setting speed to 1/3 or 2/3 but when setting it to 'half' I just get a 'jawoll herr kaleun' and not the '[full ahead]' afterwards as it used to be before.

Might some other sounds be missing too, because when initially diving, there seems to miss the sound of air flowing into the [englisch word missing], this hissing sound. Thought at first this is a feature of GWX, but since other sounds are missing I'm not sure about that.

Anyone else encountered this problem ? I already checked the number of files and folder sizes of every subfolder of ...\data\Sound\Speech\

thanks in advance :)

So annoying, I used the mod called
"das Boot Sound Feeling Mod by KKpt.zS Version 1.2"
which includes a much better selection of sound samples from the movie for the game. I simply reinstalled it and got reminded immediately what problems I had with it in the first place. For examples crashes my game when I use the 'periscope depth' function. Dunno which files I replaced by ones from another sound mod, I just replaced every 3 *periscope_depth*.ogg with the ones from the files which worked for me before installing GWX but SH3 crashed again when setting periscope depth -.-

Does anybody else uses this mod and has experienced problems with it ?

I added a sound mod a few days ago. Some of the sounds are VERY good. However, I do believe my sound files in game have become corrupted. What a bummer! Is there a mini-course on SH3 sounds 101 out there?

I think the answer is to replace the in-game voices, one by one in the SilentHunterIII/data/Sound/Speech folders.

There are 9 folders in all. The files are the same in each of the 9, but the actual files when you play them vary in pitch and, sometimes in inflection. Not sure whether the game randomises commands / responses from the 9 available versions.

I'd suggest the following:

1. use a sound editor to prepare the sound files you want to use. For preference they
should be in .ogg format.
2. rename your new files with the exact names of the corresponding in-game files you want to replace in
the data/Sound/speech folders ( The game is hard-coded to find and play specific files on cue, using their full file name.)
3. copy the in-game files from the speech folders you will be replacing into a safe back-up folder(s) - best to create 9 folders to keep them organised as they are in-game .
That way they're easier to restore.
4. Replace the individual files in the data/Sound/Speech 1 to 9 folders with your new ones, ensuring that the names and order of files are exactly the same as with the
original in-game files. ideally, your new files should be aproximately the same size as the ones you're replacing.
You'll probably have to replace the same file in all 9 folders to ensure you get the sound file you want or expect when you're playing.

Good luck

IMO, that's why it's always better to instal mods via JSGME.
If something goes wrong, then all you have to do is roll it back.
I learned the hard way...:know:

I've got it solved by downloading a newer version of the whole sound mod.

The hint with the size of the sound files is good though, did not check that. That could have been the reason, why the 1.2 version of the mod had problems here, the 1.3 version seems to work allright.

Thanks you all for your thoughts. :D
