View Full Version : Problems with the XXI Elektroboot

Frustrated with never surviving until 1944 in regular DiD campaigns I cheated and launched a XXI campaign in August 1944 today. I hadn't tried the XXI since stock, and couldn't wait for the thrill of doing a GWX 1.03 campaign with the magnificent beast. However, I've hit a snag.
The XXI has a serious speed and dive problem. On the surface I can do a maximum of 6-7 knots, submerged a measly 3 knots, and thats if I even manage to dive. The XXI almost refuses to dive, and only repeatedly jabbing the Crash Dive button willl eventually submerge the boat, gracefully and slow.... Normal Dive, Periscope or setting the depth manually does not submerge the boat at all. (It dives until only the tower is above the water.
I've seen and read countless posts about bugs with the XXI in the past, but AFAIK they are all fixed in GWX 1.03 no? My search-fu is failing miserably as well, I cant seem to find any of the relevant earlier posts, so if somebody has any tips/hints/help or can direct me to posts of relevance I'd be in your debt.

Are you using SH3 Cmdr? and if so, do you have 'sabotage/malfunctions' enabled? :hmm:

Ah should have mentioned that - yes I run SH3 Commander and have sabotage - but even the normal trick of selecting knots directly instead of selecting full speed ahead doesnt increase the speed. (As it normally does when in a VII or IX).
Also other mods I have (In case somebody can spot something from that): Longer Torpedo Wakes, 6 Dial Slide Out and Depth Charge Shake. Nothing that should conflict with the running of the ship as far as I can see.

There is no "normal" trick to get around the engine malfunction. And there are two different types of engine malfunctions. One is by percentage and the other is limiting knots in a given setting. Try saving and restarting the mission, unless of course you've got one of the rare unrepairable bugs which means it cannot be resolved at sea.

Ah maybe thats the culprit then - I had noticed in the past whenever I ordered ahead full on a VII and got 14/15 knots I could go in and set the speed to 20 knots directly and then the speed of the boat would increase to 17 knots, so I assumed the Sabotage option merely affected the speed "ordered" by the engine telegraph.
I did try a reload, without success, I better try starting the carreer over, even tough I managed to shoot down a plane (first one in GWX as I always dive to avoid them, but this time the boat refused to submerge so I had to duke it out :) )

Those good for nothing French dockyard workers back at base must be laughing over their cheese and biscuits

As they might, unfortunately I'm based in Bergen, so it looks like my own countrymen are throwing the proverbial spanner in the works :p

Well, why don't you use SH3C with sabotage disabled, just for the XXI?

I will indeed once I've determined that that is in fact what is causing the problem. Which I am about to find out :)
EDIT: After restarting the campaign everything seems to be working fine, even with sabotage enabled, altough sometimes when the sabotage thingy kicks in going Flank speed actually drops my speed to slow, so I have to manually set the speed to max in order for crash divings to be feasable.. But thats just minor stuff..
Cheers for all help.
