View Full Version : [REL] SHIV Scene for SHIII beta.
Hi, I have been working on the SHIV Scene file to suit SHIII environment & also removed the sky votex, this is a 8k environment & suitable for anyone using an 8k version regardless of the supermod in use. I see no problems with using this file with SHIII as it is basically only a settings file, and other modded versions of this file can be downloaded by anyone on the SHIV mods forum.:yep:
Some of the main features:
1) Sunrise & sunset cloud colors.
2) Water Reflections.
3) Sun & moon Reflections.
This version is for a 8k atmosphere.
Credits to:
Sansal for his Pack3D tool.
Privateer for helping me workout how to use Pack3D.
Seeadler for his Sky Texture fix.
TimeTraveller for the use of his Minitweaker tool.
The cloud texture used is a must but where it comes from I do not know but mant thanks!
There is a readme supplied with Install instructions, can be downloaded here, this is the first version (beta), so please post your opinions:

Great Reece. Thanks for all the work. Currently I'm using the SH3 scene.dat with SH4 reflections, and like it very much.
Please don't think I'm ungrateful when I ask about a 16 km version ... I've gotten so used to it, and cannot do without anymore... So anything on the drawing board?

Nice woke mate, is it possible to get an 16k version. I could not find any in the SH4 Forum.

Way to go Reece! Top notch good man!
@ A6Intruder & Woof, any scene.dat files downloaded from SHIV mods forum will not work in SHIII.
I think the SHIV modders have been trying to get a 16k version with no luck, I can post a SHIII version to test but from my observations the sun disappears, this could be because I do not have the associated 16k files, another thing is that the 16k Env. skycolors do not work with the SHIV scene.dat, I don't know if there is a difference between the 8k & 16k other than colors!:-? If anyone could enlighten me here I would appreciate it.:yep:
Thanks.
Edit: Thanks Kpt L, I'm hoping for more improvements and that a 16k version can be created!

Hi Reece,
I have testet your file and it works, but i get an black sky. Is it possilble to "mix" my scene with yours to get my sky and your reflections and water?
Kind regards from Germany:up:
@ A6Intruder, I assume you just tried using this mod on top of a 16k version, this would explain the black sky, you could change the Env Skycolors but this in effect actually changes the 16k to 8k! The biggest part of the 8 or 16 Atmospheres is in the Scene.dat file! I will work on a 16k version but will take a while to produce as I will have to extract & import files into the Scene.dat file as well as Tweak it!:D
Cheers.

Well after a lot more work I will have to put the 16k version to one side for now, the many problems stem around the Sky:
1) Black sky.
2) No Clouds.
3) No Sun or Moon.
Seems if I get rid of the first the other 2 apply!!:-?
Having one problem would be enough but three is a little too frustrating, maybe there will be a breakthrough with the SHIV modders in the not too distant future!
I thought from memory the SHIV stock was 9k but even that might be incorrect!:damn:
Sorry 8k atmosphere only.

Really nice job Reece, I have shivers down the spine when I think the amount of hours and patience you must have dedicated to doing this :88) , GREAT JOB:rock:
P.S. I also would love to see a 16k version, in SH4 it is possible to move the horizon very far away and the ships render at huge distances (I have mine at 20.000 metres), so may be the sky dome is constructed differently, dunno:hmm:

Some of the main features:
1) Sunrise & sunset cloud colors.
2) Water Reflections.
3) Sun & moon Reflections.
Please forgive me, if I ask a stupid question, but what has really changed that much?
I mean, I allready see some water reflections, and sun/moon reflections. And I do see both dark and light colour clouds!
So this project: can it lead to transparent water too? :hmm:
THAT would really interest me... (just love that feature in SH4...)
Is it possible at all?

much to bright nights That's the first complaint for the nights being too bright, that's what most people want, but that really depends on the Env colors your using, I found stormy nights to be still almost black, if you were testing in the Navigation academy screen the nights stay like dusk by default, I got fooled by this!!:) I checked out the link but can't read German.

it *might* be possible. From underwater you can see stuff that is out of the water...
Hopefully its not hardcoded.:hmm:

Due to my own "temporary insanity"... I was tweaking various combinations of scene.dat in order to get optimal mix of SH4/SH3 calm sea.
So, after couple of hours I found my "natural scene" mix:

and dark side surface:

It is possible that I ended up close to original GWX...?

verry nice indeed. you should put it on FF for ppl who want it :hmm:
Hi, I find no problem so far with 8k version but the 16k version still has problems, the following is from my other post:
After quite a few more tests I have found that the added command-line in scene.dat (Horizon), added by Der Teddy Bar may well work in SHIV but not in SHIII.
What happens is if this number (default for 8k = 1000) is increased is that the size of the grid seems to get smaller, in the game with NumLock on using numbers pad press the 7 key to view from a higher altitude and look around, you will notice the square grid with blured edges on the horizon, now if you lower the number the sky goes black!:damn:
Placing setting back to 1000 for 8k then going to the old method of changing earthsize and in particular the three SkyObject Radius items - sun, moon & stars to a higher value you end up with these objects disappearing!:damn:
The closest I can get to a 16k version without upsetting things can be downloaded for anyone to test here:
http://www6.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=37200 (http://www6.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=37200)
If anyone can offer help, those using the 16k version would certainly appreciate it!:yep:
Thanks for your patience.:)
As you can see, still a way to go with the 16k version, trying to test in all environments is quite time consuming, so if anyone finds something amiss please post your findings.:yep:
Thanks.
@ Adriatico, yes it becomes a trade off or a matter of preference I feel, trying to get that happy medium is quite hard, but I have posted the settings for anyone to play with if they want & if anyone gets a breakthrough with anything regarding the scene.dat file, please post!:D
Thanks.

Yes Reece,
...it is definitely a time&nerv consuming game of "give it a go" - again and again...
Till we reach some real new breaktrough, this is the max. we could combine...
( but I'm very happy with this tuned "natural" look...
I could patrol with these (LCD) settings for another 12-24 months...)
I hope that inverse approach (SH3 in SH4 ) announced by the new team/web-site would come up with some "ground shaker" for further testing in a months to come...
P.S.
Sailors, please poste to my p.m. the address - you want me to e-mail these settings...
Please, keep in mind that both general settings and W.S.1 settings determine the calm sea look.
Other sea states would look fine anyway...
I'll be off - for a hollidays ( two weeks ) , so folks, go on with further testing in a divine peace, without my grumble...
