Hello my fellow Kaleuns:
i have a question rearding the title of this thread:
When played with GW1.1 it was written in the readme fil that no changes should be made before completing the 1st patrol, and failing to do this would cause the loss of renown and something else if I recall it right.
Using GWX 1.03 would cause the same? or is it possible to choose another sub or guns, change the load of torps, and choose other/more crew members before leaving port in the 1st patrol?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help with this.

The 1st Patrol Issue is NOT a GW/GWX related one. It's a stock bug. Because of this EVERY mod/supermod of SH3 is affected, so no updates/upgrades until you're back to port. I'm affraid the same applies for GWX.

Thanks a lot for your promt reply, Mel.
I will take that in account before I start my next patrol. Actually I was waiting for this info to do so.

It's written in the GWX manual too. ;)

Do what the real skippers did: take the boat out on a shakedown run. Put it through all it's maneuvers and test it's response. Then make port and do whatever you need to do to get ready for a 2 or 3 week patrol.

:yep: And this also works well for the "first-patrol-as-a-Leutnant" concern that so many people have. That is, you do a shakedown cruise as a humble Lt, but upon return you get your ObLt, just in time for your first "real" patrol.

Wasn't there a tweak or adjustment to a Cfg file to ensure you moved from a Leutnant ? :hmm:

This is an embarrasingly simple question - but do Conning Tower Emblems or changing torpedoes count?
I play on uber low compression - and I am many hours out on my first patrol - but I did put a conning tower emblem on it - do I need to restart?
Simple question, but thanks for the help if you have it.

Emblems are for free. Torpedoes though (especially the new types) cost renown (except the ones on the default load-out).
As far as your patrol I would suggest you keep going. I don't think the emblem will ruin your tonnage (I hope not at least)

In the context of 'upgrading' I suspect torpedos may well count :yep:
Carry on with your patrol, you may well find there is no effect....good luck

I didn't spend any reknown - just picked up two electrics in case I blunder into a daytime attack.
We will see, pressing on with Patrol 1 - just cleared the Kiel Canal in real time and headed for AN56 on a training mission - 1 Sep 39. With Real Nav on and no map contacts - the canal took a while.
I will report if the patrol reknown gets wonky.

Early in the war both types of torpedoes cost nothing. As the years go by and new types become available they cost renown. The acoustics for example in 1944-45 cost about 1000 points. All worth it though as they saved my butt more than once ;) :yep:

It is a possibility :yep: It's not about spending renown but more about changing the layout/parameters the game has given you by default :hmm:
