View Full Version : [WIP] pigboat skin
ok ... im not really used to do skins for boats or submarines or using other files than good old bmp, since i only made skins for IL2 series ... so this is how its going
i had to turn off most of the visuals so i could see what i was doing
if someone could explain to me why the rust and rivets from the original texture are still showing on mine i would apreciate it ... im working in layers and i removed the original one

That's the light/occlusion map showing through.

Check post 4-5
In the case of the S-18 its
NSS_S18_Body_O01.dds
and
NSS_S18_Body_O01_lr.dds (lo-res)
In order to clean up the rust etc properly you need to work on those maps like you did the
actual skin, like FooFighters and Boris did doing thier Hi-res skins.

thanks people ... its not very good and i bet it will take a while untill it seems what i have in mind
i used DXTBPM before for when i was doing skins for cfs ...
so im sorry but what am i suposed to do with the NSS_S18_Body_O01.dds
will it work if i paint it all in white or black ? i assume this will "overide" the way the light hits the boat makin it flat ?

You do not have to alter that main file. If you open this file with dxtbmp you see that it has an alpha layer. This is the bmp you must edit.

I would actually suggest dling Foofighters Hi-res skin (any of them, if you don't have them already) open that "O" file and check it out ;) Seeing is believing.
ahhhh !!!! understand it
thanks allot !!!

hmm.. strange.. :hmm:
This is how I do it.
Open "O" file with dxtbmp. In the right corner you have the alpha layer options.
"Choose Export alpha channel as BMP", close dxtbmp
Change whatever you want in the alpha layer with photoshop
Then open dxt again. choose option in right corner "Import alpha channel"
Then file save as.. dds texture.. save and voila.. it's done.
i s****d up :damn:... had to unninstall the game lost the alphas of a couple of files :nope:
thanks for the explanation, i was opening directly in photoshop editing and saving

If you loose one another time.. let me know :p
I'll email it to you.. no need to reinstall then.
i think ill pass this one ... the mapping is very bad
the textures on the deck are mapped to the same
one that is under the boat , so guess what if i
paint the bottom of the boat of brick red ... the
deck will be ... brick red .
are the others like this ?
