View Full Version : MoBo - It's ready!
I'm pleased to announce that MoBo is now ready for play testing. Those who would like to be involved in the play testing phase should PM their email address for followup instructions. All play testers who provide feedback will have their name listed in the credits. Opportunities also exist for any experienced Mo-board hacks to develop tutorials to be included in the now developing documentation.
If you haven't heard, MoBo is an electronic maneuvering board application that allows you to work on target intercepts, attack course approach, TSD calculations, AoB, TMA and whatever other relative position calculations you'd like to analyze.

Play testers who respond by Thursday will receive an evaluation copy of MoBo no later than Friday, May 25th. I don't know if I'll have a finished manual by then, but I'll at least have something to point you in the right direction.

Excellent. Sure wish I had time to test for you. I presume this will be a standalone app that could be used with any naval sim?
Here are links to the Navy's "Maneuvering Board Manual". Perhaps it will help you with your tutorial or anyone else who is interested:
The original files for The maneuvering Board DMA5090 Instruction Manual, pub. 217,is available for download in 4 .zip files.

Yes, it's a standalone app but it gives you the ability to work from in-game screen captures (Alt-PrnScrn button). Alternatively, you can set the background transparent or at any level of opacity and use it as an overlay... or set transparent temporarily, plot positions and then set it back to opaque and work at your leisure. I actually find myself using the screen capture feature less frequently now... it's nicer working on uncluttered background.
If you've got dual monitor capability (or an idle laptop) it really shines. It's like adding a new station to your favorite naval sim!

ETA to relase? MoBo will be fantastic
Aaron's working hard on it, it has become apparent during playtesting that the MOBO is a very flexible tool with people using it in many different ways, there are a great many features and some that I still don't know how to use properly, but it is fantastic! Infact, its a dream to use, and learning how to use it is great fun..
I think Aaron is currently working on aspects that arose during testing, requested new features etc, I don't know when it will be finished though.. but shouldn't be too long..

Stay tuned for an announcement... :ping:
This is in fact a great resource to simulate what the tracking party did, so you can really play Captain and yet use manual targeting doing what you are suppose to do, get ranges and bearings and make decissions, letting the fire control party with some guidance from you plot and plot until you have what you need. SH4 drawing tools are good, but this MOBO represents IMO much better the real tracking party work in a WW2 US sub:rock:
Congrats aaron:up:

Excellent work. I highly recommend this tool for anyone playing tactical naval games, not just SH4.

I'm pleased to announce that MoBo Version 1.0 is now available for download.
Neal was nice enough to provide us with our own MoBo Forum (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/index.php) here at SubSim to host questions and answers. You'll find the MoBo forum near the bottom of the forum list under "Special Projects".
Thanks Neal!
Presently I have included in the MoBo forum two threads for downloading:
1. MoBo v1.0
2. The official MoBo 38 page manual
3. The first two installments of "Lurker's Tactical Manual"
See you all on the MoBo forum...
Happy Plotting! :ping:
