View Full Version : Announcement: Stickies reorganization
Hi everyone,
following the reorganization of sticky threads in the SH4 forum in the new style (Less threads, with links inside) I'm doing the same thing for the SH3 mods forum. Neal considers this more useful, but if you don't like the results, tell him so in the comments to subsim review forum or in this topic.
Thanks

Don't like it. I thought the thread about completed ship models is extremely useful since it's easier to find newly developed ships and keep together the various modders. Now that the thread already was on page2 just because there was no progress for three days will take attention and support away from the various projects.
With single projects and mods where every on already has a singele thread I see it differently.

Well, I think that you've robbed Peter to pay Paul.
Yes, you've decreased the number of stickies, but with the likely result being an increase in NEW threads from people who don't notice the now "hidden" specific threads.
And this means the forum getting clogged with an increase in the same questions being asked over and over again (if this is conceivably possible). And I'm guessing that if the last few weeks are anything to go by, a proliferation of new GWX-related threads will cause aneurisms!
FWIW I quite liked seeing at a glance when the new ships and various mod threads (including the SH3Cmdr one) were last commented on. It was always good to read the latest comments easily and see if any new info was added that might be of help to me. Now, instead of clicking where I see a changed thread, I get to either scan *all* the updated threads or click to go into the linked sticky, then click on each one to see whether comments have been added (yes, I know I can subscribe, but then I get an inbox full of notifications instead). Hmmm...
BTW, I disagree with your comments re the reorg of the SH4 forums. I distinctly see two mod stickies in the workshop. ;)

I agree.
Well doing this was not my idea, I just followed the general indications all moderators received about cleaning up the stickies. I will consider all your comments and try to get a better solution.:hmm:

The idea is, to have an index stickied of the major categories, such as one index thread for Official Supermods Threads GWX-NYGM-WAC-Über, etc
So the new user and the everyday user can find the main thread for GXW, NYGM, etc and we don't have 4-10 stickies. The threads float but since they are linked in the index, they usually get the same number of responses.

dito :yep:
I miss the old threads and stickies. I had got used to them, knew where to find each of them. Now, for instance it took me one minute at least to find the sub skins thread. Anyway, found it in the end:yep:

That doesn't help at all with other important large threads as the AddOn Ship and the Skin Thread. Those and a few other large threads should at least be included in the index as well!
On the other hand since most people are using at least 1024x768 resolution (many even higher), 10 stickies shouldn't clog up the main page too much. I can see 22 thread titles on one screen. So I don't really see the problem?

i think the reorganized stickies are a very good idea.
the idea was to group stickies into catagories for easier locating but not take up half of the first page with all stickies. IMO it was getting to the point that stickies were avoided due to the limited space left, i really don't understand the objections.
IMO most readers look only at the first page so if they don't see an answer to thier question there they post a question that may have already been answered on page 2 which they never looked at. we can't expect neal to add another forum page just for stickies.
i suggest if you are not in favor of the way hitman set it up then make creative and helpfull suggestions on how to tweak it to accomplish the goal of grouping the large list of mod stickies into just a few stickies.

try to understand that this will allow the additions of many more added links to the grouped sticky that were not given stickies of their own due to limited space.
this is brand new and will be a great benefit to all if given a chance to grow.
after all one sticky can be edited to hold 10 pages of mod info if needed and yet the forums page 1 is no longer limited to just a half page available for new posters.

as i understand it, now that these threads are no longer stickied, any new post or edit to existing post in the thread will result in it poping up to the top of the forum just like a new post so everyone will see it and it will not be necessary to click on each one to see weather comments were added.
This is just too funny! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
