Hey guys

In the past 2 hours (if not more), I've played with nvdrifter's Super Gun Mod (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=111231) (the new download link is here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=528114#post528114)) and I like everything about that mod except one thing.

When you use the Deck Gun, 1 hit destroys ANY ship withing a second. It just sort of disappears. And that I do not like... After my likeness, it should take about 4-5 shots to sink a ship.

I know many of you do not like these kinds of mods. That's why I've started myself with minitweaker, installed it, learned it etc. But I just can't figure this last detail.

If we look at this from the technical side, could any of you help me with this please?

From the top of my head, check the "shells" files,
you may want to reduce the power of shells.

1) It would be nice to know which file to edit (there are 8 of'em). I suppose it is Deck_Gun_4_50.sim (since my Balao have this Deck Gun).

2) Under category "Shell Specs" I couldn't find anything regarding power (for that matter, I couldn't find something similar under any category). I did seen the "Clip size" tho' and tried to edit it from 32000 to 1 (standard), but it hasn't helped a bit

Maybe this thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=111831) has more info.

Hmm, I had a look and frankly said, there's not much information which I could use. I've sent a PM to Beery, maybe he can help :) Thanks for the idea!

It's the shells.zon file you'll need to tweak for this. I think you're probably trying to tweak the deck gun sim files. The shells.zon file has min and max damage values for each gun type and there are a few tweak files available for it.

Well, Super Guns Mod does not edit shells.zon file at all... It replaces 8 files under Data\Library\USSubParts and that's it so I don't see how it should affect shells.zon file (i have checked it's values before enabling the mod and after that = no changes at all).

Any other ideas? :)

I have started tweaking Shells.zon and it seems that it have an effect on power of the Deck Gun (I still don't get why the power of it was changed if Super Gun Mod does not change that file at all, but whatever).

My personal experiences with tweaking shells.zon is that you have to completely go out of the game, otherwise the changes will have no effect at all (usually it works if you just go to the main menu, then spawn in the port (start of the patrol)).

We live, we learn...

PS: I would still like to know how the power of the Deck Gun cha... oh well, you've got the idea :)

As I recall (I seem to remember this mod), he said something about tweaking the speed of the shell. Try reducing the speed and see if that helps.

Thanks for the tip. As I remeber from earlier, the speed wasn't changed in the tweaked files, but because the clip size has changed... Hmmm... I'll try to tone the speed down tomorrow and see what happends!

Forget this thread... The problem with 1 hit = 1 kill was caused by using another mod (which was inactivated, but the game was still running at the main menu and it STILL cached the old shells.zon file which cause all the problems).

Thanks for everyone participating

I've learned lots of things from this and... I'm thinking of releasing a mod soon... It'll be fun :know:
