I have made some screens of the mod!
Don't know yet, whether this will be final version, but so far I think, it looks good!
What do you think?
This is only the sand version! The stone version is not yet in work!
When done, it will be available in 4 versions: 64mb, 128mb, 256mb and 512mb, packed together!
12 screenies:

Got any plans for the polar-regions (land-textures)?

It looks excellent, because I am really tired of the boring "mud flats" texture that's applied to the sea floor in stock SH3.
That leads me to a request - is there any way to improve the land textures that the game uses? Maybe something like the photorealistic terrain that's been released for several flightsims? The "pool table" surface of the earth gets as boring as the "mud flats" underwater.

It should be possible! This is actually two photos, which I have cut in pieces, then use copy+ paste in a big window, and there made a puzzle using mirror and flip. I used a "moiré pattern removal" filter to remove the overlaps, but they are still visible, if you know where to look! The outcome was then transformed to tga and in different sizes. The size shown is 256mb!
So about the grass and earth textures, I think it should be possible to create something similar. Will be looking at it after I have made a stone version of the sea floor...
When done, it will be available in 4 versions: 62mb, 128mb, 256mb and 512mb, packed together!

I wasn't refering to the 62/64 typo, I was amazed at the size of the textures...

I have tried putting in some more "green" on it! Not really completely satisfied, but here's two screenshots:

Then I have been working on a stone version as well. I have made 5-6 attempts before this one and deleted them all! They looked like crap, when I was finished, which made me wonder, whether it would be another waste of time to try again, when the final attempt ended up quite okay! Okay, I mean: I love this final attempt that I think fine-tuning is all that it needs! What do you think?

To be honest I liked the first versions you posted with no green but these look good too.. How about breaking up the solid areas of green into smaller patches? Just my opinion.
It's good to hear you're also thinking about modding the land surface as well - I can't wait for it.

Just posting thumbs of the images:
Sand version without the pasted green areas:

Sand version with the pasted green areas:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Carotio/Sand02_2b_thumb.jpg
I'm actually NOT very satisfied with the green version, but somebody asked for some green! Will see if I can do better! Otherwise the "green-less" version will appear!
Stone version:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Carotio/Stone01_4_thumb.jpg
For both cases, sand and stone, there is some sort of kaleidoscope effect. This is one of the side effetcs, when I do as I do: use two copies - horizontal and/or vertical - of one image - correct and mirrored/flipped. This is done so that the borders of the image doesn't create too clear a border, where two copies of this texture line up to eachother, which has been the case with other textures.
As said before, I have used some of my own real photos to create these textures, and the immersion effect is soo much bigger, I think. So I'll go out and take some photos of dirty earth and grass too, to see if the textures of the land will improve with that! I think they will! So it may turn out as some sort of environmental texture mod....

This mod will be more like an environmental mod as it seems, cause I have thrown myself over the moon as well now...
In my mod of the moon, it will not only be adjusted by period in size, as in all other moon mods, but now also in colour. Sometimes it will be like red = new moon (no light from sun) and white = full moon (all enlightened by the sun), and sometimes yellow (mostly lightened by the sun, but effected by the atmosphere of the earth).
I only have two screens now, which is from moonphase 14 out of 16. So far, I think it looks good! What do you think, also about the idea of changing colours?
About the sand floor, I have made another one, a new one. Wasn't satisfied with the first shown. Will post screens later...

Hello C:
I like all your seafloors, but the last ones are the ones I like the most.
And about the moon, I have to agree with Alex, it is too orange. Maybe you can try a bit less of color. But it really looks great.

This is beta, not gold!
The images of the moon are photos of my own, made 2 nights ago, when the moon was full here in Denmark. I made some photos with a 300mm zoom with different settings on my camera from 1/8 to 1/60 seconds with 5.6 to 8 "* = don't know the word for this in english". When I watched the moon with my own eyes, it truely had a very yellow apperance! :yep:
I agree however that the moon mostly is white! :yep:
So as a test, I made a mod with several moon phases in different colours, and I know it's extreme, but I wanted to see this ingame!
Two shots showing the moonphases (from another moon mod) and then my modified moon mod - and this is still only beta!
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Carotio/Moon_Phases.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Carotio/Moon.jpg
And maybe the samples of white should be enlarged and yellow+red reduced, will see about that. But now you can compare, when you'll see what!
Here are then four more ingame shots:
Halfway night/day off the coast of Norway in may:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Carotio/ResizeofMoon_01.jpg
Periscope zoom 10x, edit is necessary - one can see the black circle around the moon... :nope:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Carotio/ResizeofMoon_02.jpg
Two shots from an assault on a sitting convoy, again off Norway, May, about 2-4 AM:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Carotio/ResizeofMoon_03.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Carotio/ResizeofMoon_04.jpg
I still don't have ingame shots from fullmoon examples sofar...
Okay again, this is beta! Will however use it myself for a while to test it further...

When the moon is that orange, it's either by:
- dust in the earth's atmosphere
- a lunar eclipse
- drugs and/or alcohol :rotfl:
