i think it would be increadible, even the little DD's should have some upgraded fire (would look awsome at night... and help them to look a bit more intimidating)

As you see the (fire ball) is not as big as in the pics posted by "SingeDebile"
I am not sure if changing the size of the texture actually makes it bigger...don't look like it so far. Did this quick and dirty just to see if I could...and well...it will for sure look more impressive in the dark ;).
To get something as awesome as in the pic in the 1st post i think we need to tweak something more...what? no idea at the mo, but something controlling the size of the muzzle flash...for short :)

Did some testing and the game uses the same texture for the muzzle flash as for the impact. I remember someone saying that the impacts was to wimpy, but I wonder if this is not a tad to much. One could tone down the texture a bit or start looking for the actual script that the game uses to load the texture, and simply change it for a 2nd one for impacts...if that is possible I don't know.

Tweaked it a bit. A little bit less intense colors and added a Alpha (something I hope helps tone it done a tad)

Does this make the explosions better when hitting enemy ships with your deck gun? At the moment, they're pitiful!

Well as you can see in the pics below, the impact will visually look more "fiery". Been playing with this mod for a day now and looks pretty nice actually. Also when firing the deck gun you get a small "tongue" of fire coming out. Looks better in my opinion. Try it out man ;)

Sure that is the correct textures, actually used one of them and tweaked it for the muzzle flash. I think resizing them wont really have any effect but. Could give it a go later maybe.

Actually I was talking out of my Pooha! in the above post, those textures are for when ships are blowing up etc. I am using the correct texture but resizing it wont do any difference. Like I said, to make the muzzle flash bigger you have to tweak something else. But still, I think the way I did it in the last version ain't that bad...:cool:

That's awesome...but...hard to do exactly like that. As i said one have to find the code that actually renders the "size" of the texture when animated...maybe in the particles.dat...only thinking...

Yes, You'll need to go into the particals.dat and maybe even the materials.dat
files.
You should also look at the gun dats and sim files for clues as to
where to go.
Depending on how those areas are applied (guns we don't want affected)
You may need to build a few new areas and re-direct things.

Yea...that sound correct. Thing is the muzzle flash and the impact textures are the same in the game, so like you said one might have to fiddle some to separate them. otherwise, huge muzzle flash HUGE IMPACT EXPLOSION. And another prob there is that the canon on the sub uses this texture to. I feel that this mod looks OK for the canon as it is, but maybe to wimpy for the battleships, especially Yamatos 18.1 inch guns :p.

Major avenue of improvement to take. Great idea.

Stock graphic missed the chance to properly impress the awesomeness of the firepower actually involved in naval combat.

Next we could possibly make the water in front and below the large guns firing "shudder". Films of BB's firing in calm seas always show massive shuddering on the water surface. Shock blast effect making the surface water "dance".
