tho i'm sure the vets are aware of it. i noticed one of 2 things. if you hear a DD accelerate, its screws have cleared the water in heavy seas, or it's starting a depth charge run. if it's the latter, you'd best goto flank speed and put your rudder hard over for a few seconds then back to midships. when it slows got to 1/3 while at silent running and go deep. kept me from sinking while taking on 3 DDs per orders following a contact report sent, and i got 2 of them:ping:

Good points. One of the flaws I thought Das Boot had was the captain never ordered any changes until after the depth charges were going off.:-?
I always say, if you hear them speed up, or even approaching (or if you hear the charges drop):
1) Change speed (Flank is good)
2) Change course
3) Change depth
4) Go silent again
Always keep 'em guessing.

If that fails...
5) Blow balast
6) Raise white flag
:p
Or...
5) Bendover with head between legs
6) Kiss ass goodbye
