View Full Version : How to lock the Messages Log box at different position permanently?

The little Messages Log box appears by default in the middle of the top of the screen, transparency slider half way. I find that position and the rather dark box background disturbing, so each time I start a mission I always first drag that box down to the bottom of the screen on top of the middle section of the order panel, maximise its transparency and lock it in that new position, where it stays until I start another mission.

This leaves the whole upper screen cleaner, and the transparent background looks better for my taste. I'm playing at 1680x1050 widescreen resolution.

Is there a way to change the default position and transparency of this Messages Log box so that I'll have it permanently at the described position?

I guess it must be done in menu_1024_768.ini, but what values should be changed?

Furthermore, is it possible to make the dragable Target Information panel (Position Keeper/Torpedo Settings) visible (pulled out) by default, like the Torpedo selection panel, instead of having to pull it out at each mission start?

Tia for advice

This will solve the message box problem..so you can put it anywhere you like and it will stay there. :up:

Actually....you can, and I discovered the way, by accident, as I was making the changes.

Heres how....

Make the changes in these zones in the menu_1024_768.ini file....

[G3F I229]
Zone= 256 764 350 94 0 1 0x3F000000 0.25 0 0x3F2A0000 0 0 -255 -614

[G3F I242]
Zone= -600 200 300 100 2 1 0x3F000000 0 -1 0x3F040000 -2 1 -255 -510

Instead of using these numbers as panthercules did ....make the last number at least - 1000 and that will move it right off the screen ( I would guess way to the bottom somewhere?)...

It will not show. At least it didn't for me ,much to my suprise, untill I used a smaller number to effect the move I wanted.

I made it disappear altogether by disabling the Zone line in [G3F I229] by adding a ; in front like this:

;Zone= 256 764 350 94 0 1 0x3F000000 0.25 0 0x3F2A0000 0 0 0 -4

This way it seems not to exist at all instead of pushing it outside the screen by gross values. No offence, Canonicus.;)

Did not see any side effects during a short trial mission, before putting it back on the screen bottom between tabs and dials, fully transparent from start on.:D
