Enhancements for SClass:
- added SClass to Pearl, Freemantle & Brisbane for the duration of the war (this is most likely not historically
correct however S boats were used throughout the war in many different capacities, this just opens up more gameplay)
- upgraded SClass conning towers to late war versions for AA use
- increased surface speed from 13 to 15 (historical reference)
- increased submerged speed from 9 to 11 (historical reference)
- increased surface range from 8000 to 10,000 (5000 NM is the historical reference, I assume the dev's upped it for gameplay purposes, I've done the same, we can perhaps justify it by saying we sacrificed cargo space for more fuel capacity :)
- crash depth is 40 m or 131 ft, the .sim file was 122 ft, corrected to 131 / crush depth remains unchanged at 200 ft
- decreased crush speed from 2 to 1

Enhancements for "ALL" boats:
- added Dutch Harbor as a starting location, includes missions - from PTM 1.12 by Beery
- added 21 career starts to match video briefings - from PTM 1.12 by Beery, reorganized by shad
- revised patrol structure to eliminate repeating patrols - Ducimus, reorganized by shad
- adjusted sub availability intervals to eliminate early boat retirement - Ducimus
- moved harbor starting location for Pearl, fixes IDL bug - Ducimus
- reversed renown options
- added hull ss numbers - LukeFF
- cleaned up .upc files, checked dates and inconsistencies

Note: SClass boats historically had a crew of 4 officers (including the skipper) & 34-39 elisted men
you can use these numbers as a reference to set up your crew prior to a patrol.

Although I've done a butt load of editing here the credit goes to Ducimus, Beery & LukeFF
for the original ideas contained herein, please thank them and be sure to ask permission
before using these files in any other mod.

The SClass tweaks were made using timetravellers minitweaker & tweakfiles by nvdrifter

You may find the early war Sboat patrols a bit mundane since its range is so
limited there are only a few doable patrol areas until forward bases open up
that said at least it won't be the same "one" over and over, there will be 2 or 3
depending on the starting base.
If this proves too boring I could increase the Sboats range and restructure
the patrol objectives to be more like the other boats.
Just a thought...works fine for me as is, and I hate to get to far away from
historical accuracy.

I get a CTD when starting a career from "Asiatic Fleet 1941". Removed the MOD and it works...any thoughts on that? Actually found this when trying to find another CTD prob with the CBS mod.

Well I've isolated the ctd to the S-42 boat out of any Asiatic base...I can't find any obvious reason why...yet, works fine from Pearl & Brisbane, perhaps its a hardcoded limitation? at any rate I'll mess with it a bit more and if I cant find the culprit I'll simply remove the 42 from the Asiatic flotillas as this fixes the ctd.

I don't really understand the significance of that number either. Any number seems to work. I think that it was supposed to tell the game how many boats to look up in the roster file, but I don't think it was implemented. One thing to be aware of - if you accidentally put a comma after the last number in the IDLinkUserPlayerUnits line it will cause a big time CTD right at the initial game loading screen - when that happened to me it took me hours to figure out what I'd done wrong, LOL.

The real tricky thing in the careerstart file is the F1, F2, F3, F4 number - these relate to the Flotillas.upc file and not the flotilla number in the careerstart blocks - that tripped me up a couple of times. Then there's the fact that each starting boat has to have a listing in the Flotillas.upc file - so if you have an S-42 listed as a start boat for Asiatic Fleet (Flotilla 2) in the CareerStart.upc file you must have a listing for the S-42 in the [Flotilla 2.UserPlayerUnitType] block in the Flotillas.upc file. You must also have patrols for that sub in the
[Flotilla 2.UserPlayerUnitType 1.Objective] block of the Flotillas.upc file.

Im aware of this :D however I've yet to find an obvious error...when i remove the S42 from the careerstart.upc the ctd goes away...so that tells me there must be a typo in one of the aformentioned files...my additions to the other flotillas work fine its just with the s42, as of yet i dont see a problem with the s42 entries, bugger, I'll keep looking.

By the way, does anyone know what "FlotillaCommonality" in CareerStarts.upc and "UnitTypeCommonality" in Flotillas.upc are for?

It says some gobbledegook about "to be used when a random choice is assigned" but I've never been able to figure out what that means.

Well still no luck in finding the ctd culprit, although I have found a few other small typos, I can fix this by removing the S42 from the asiatic flotillas but it bugs the hell outta me that it works ok everywhere else and not there, so Im still looking. :damn:

Well I'm stumped. I don't see anything wrong with the files. It's getting late here so I'll have to get some shut-eye and maybe take a fresh look at it tomorrow.

I just had a thought - maybe we're assuming it's a problem with the UPCData files. What if it's the Roster? I notice that in the SSS42.cfg file the S-42 boats don't come online until 1942 - could this be the problem with Asiatic Fleet boats in 1941? I always assumed that the Roster file dates weren't essential and that the game took a default boat number if the boat type wasn't online at a certain date (that's the way I believe it worked in SH3), but for SH4 I'm not sure.

I'm not sure which career start dates exhibit the bug, but if it's every start date up to and including April 15th 1942 I'd say the Roster file was the culprit (because the AppearanceDate for the S-42 is April 20 1942). If you change the "AppearanceDate" to 1940 or something that might just do the trick.

As for your last comment Beery those dates dont seem to matter once the subs
entry and exit dates are set to NULL in flotilla.upc

What a PITA...Im am so sorry for this error, I was sure everything was good to go when I released this...now I feel STUPID, I think I need a hug :cry:

I d'ld and installed your mod, and I have a question...should it take 2-3 weeks of game time to get a second assignment? I had a patrol Marshalls mission, completed it, sent a status report, and didn't get any further missions, so I decided to do some freelancing, as my patrol had yielded no contacts...sailed for the Japanese coast looking for something to shoot, and kept checking the radio messages for COMSUBPAC to give me somethig else to do...it took at least 10 days to get a new photo recon mission (it may have been longer, but at least 10 days) I am in an S42 out of Pearl starting 12/08/41 and I am now at 01/25/42 and just getting the next mission...in the unmodded version, I was getting assigned after 1-3 days...have you had any other reports or is this something you did as a feature?

At this time I am currently on the 6th assignment to Marshal Is. with no reply. back.
need help to complete this patrol... I have traveled west and sunk several convoys. found TF's sunk them... currently total of 75,000 tons sunk. but can not get the patrol to complete... wait up to 5 min for ability to send info on patrol. the it takes 5min for the status before I can continue the patrol...

Found and DL'd the newest Patrol Mod ... works good here....
only problem is (I think a problem) I can only REFIT 1 time from any port.
I then simply return to PH where I "END PATROL" refit reload and get assigned a new patrol area.... tested the .cal50 and it suks on a GATO class. Will try again when I get a newer Sub .. I do like much the leave port at close to Midway.. saves a lot of time..

As you can see, there has been no official response yet, but posting dates of satisfied customers are later than the 1.3 release date.
What the heck, next time you're in port fire it up. What's the worst thing that can happen, a re-install ? If that's the worst thing that happens today, we've got it made.
