Hi fello captains..

Can somebody the height that the subs are above the waterline.
In my opinion all boats are to high above the waterline.
Check this Gato for real.. and my new hi-res version..

I think its sort a covered in this thread
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=111519&highlight=Water
Its not the topic of the thread but Beery and some guys started to fool around and found this. If its included in "REAL FLEET BOAT" I am not 100% sure, might be. Otherwise you could just tweak it using the "SubSim-TweakFile" Look for "draughtSurfaced"

I think the answer is indeed in this topic.. But I am to busy working on the hi-res skins at this moment. I hope that somebody has some spare time left to make these heights correct.

you should see the porpoise

lowering subs lowers the model which lowers the nodes which sensors are attached to which makes them worse. Not a big impact but you notice it in the porpoise.

On the otherhand, it depends on ballast, I have seen Gatos higher out the water than the one in your photo, though your example I think is closer to the norm..

Oke.. you can clearly see some height differences in these above shots..
But still I prefer the boat to be a tiny bit lower in the water.

To stop subs "flying" in heavy seas, you can use the scene.dat tweak file to remove the LargeWavesCoef from WaveState4. Change it from 1 to 0.

You get sligthlty smaller waves, but the sub acts normally.

Sure thing...

Go to data\submarines\ and open each of these.... NSS_Balao.cfg
NSS_Gato.cfg
NSS_Porpoise.cfg ...
You should see this:

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=18.288;meters (60')
SnorkelDepth=16.764;meters (55') Observation or High seas
CrashDepth=36.576;meters 120'
MaxDepth=76.2;meters 250'
SurfaceDepth=4.22;meters 13'10"
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=30;meters
StormConditions=7,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

Make it something like SurfaceDepth=5.00 or even SurfaceDepth=5.25

I once set the Periscope depth to 55 feet once to get a bit higher but it remained in the same place once extended! The only thing I really did was raise the boat high enough so that destroyers were firing at by safety rail poles!

If it goes up, type the opposite of what you want it to do! If it doesn't work, at least you tried. I think I'll try it myself!!

Guess i'm not the only one who discovered this does not work! I should try that mini tweaker thing... Does anyone have a finished file though? Set droughtDepth to 0.001 and found out the center of the boat is about the top of the water below it which means the center og gravity is all wrong! One of the battleship's rudders are set wrong, along with engine speeds. Probably set them this way to aid the AI in piloting the boats more realistically. Not enough testing before release though.

No wonder the ship sways so much as it rolls along the sea. I think we need a modler who gan center the sub's center of gravity high to compensate. I could edit game models with Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City, but that was a long time ago. Maybe I'll find a tool or two for this game, but not today.

Good eye!

You know, when I saw the topic I thought, " lover subs when surfaced, what could that possilbly mean?" But know I see its LOWER subs when surfaced, I feel stupid now:doh:
