Does anyone know what are the qualifications for transfer?

I have completed 4 patrols from Pear Harbor and I wish I could be transfered to Brisbane expecting the Solomons campaign!.

No idea really.

It seems to be based on amount of renown and day/date.

Unlike SH-3 I've been able to transfer when I like after finishing 1 mission.

You mean in SH4 you managed to be transfered?

Hi geosub1978 :D Yes it always lets me transfer after I complete 1 mission. SH-3 It was always 3 missions. Not the same for you ? :hmm:

I prefer Brisbane myself too.

I tried transfering out of Pearl Harbor after my second patrol for the same reason (Solomon campaign) and couldn't, even with 6,000+ renown.

Hi, Firewall!

No It doesn't:down:

How do you load your career? When do you request it?

I have 3 different careers going at 3 different bases so this could get confusing.

I assume you know how to work the transfer system as it's not automatic.

You can't transfer unless the base/force in question is operating your submarine type.

That makes sence! My carrer would be degraded to jump to an S-42 after my 90.000tn patrol with the brand new Gato!

That hasn't stopped me and i'm not that slick with this game.

This btw is just a testing phase for me to see all the different features and functions of this game. What works and what doesn't work.

I'm trying out alot of mods and seeing how they work for game play.

So i might not be the one who knows for sure about these transfer problems but, they work for me.

Renoun, tonnage or type of boat hasn't made any difference in transfer
for me.

We have some years ahead to figure out until SH5!:D

For the moment exactlly as you said! Testing!

I've played with a Gar out of Pearl and an S-boat->Porpoise in the Asiatic fleet all only up to early 1942. The only boat I was allowed to transfer was the Porpoise, which was true immediately after recieving it (after 3 patrols in the S-boat and no ability to transfer).

That would fit with the idea that the only requirement (besides a single patrol?) is that the boat be in the fleet you are trying to transfer to.

I started in Manilla, was switched to Java then switched to Fremantle on my 3rd patrol. At that point they said I was a good boy and they gave me a new sub and sent me to PH to pick it and this is my new port.

Can't you transfer a base using the phone in the office?

Yikes, you mean you take the boat with you when you transfer? I just got out of the Sugar boats into a Porpoise, which wasn't quite the upgrade I was looking for. I was hoping to transfer to Pearl or Brisbane and be assigned a new boat.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about at least. I did the same as you except I stayed in Freemantle when I went from a S-boat to a Porpoise. I could immediately go to the phone and transfer to Pearl if I wanted once I had a boat in both fleets.

However I think the Porpoise is the only sub that is like that until later in the war, and the Asiatic Fleet always introduced new sub types later than Pearl.

I started in the Asiatic Fleet also. I went with the Salmon class. Used it for three patrols. Then offered a new sub. I said yes and now I'm in PH with the USS Drum in it's slip waiting for me.

The USS Drum was a Gato, right? There weren't Gatos in Brisbane/Asiatic until '43 according to SHIV... so if you're still in '42, then I would suspect that the phone will tell you that you can't transfer.

Well, it was towards the end of 42. They said it was a brand new shiny sub. They did not say were I was to go. Clicked yes and next thing I know, I'm in PH drinking at the bar and having drinks with little paper umbrellas in them.

I started my first career at Pearl in a Tambor. I upgraded to a Gato in June of 1942. Through Dec of 1942 (the last time I left on a patrol), I've not even been offered a transfer. Every time I click on the phone it pops up "Transfer not available". I suspect that Pearl is the only naval base running those boats at this time, and from the descriptions you guys are giving, that seems correct. I can understand why the old S boats are based in Manila at the start of the war, they don't have the range to make it from Pearl.

I haven't found too much info about how transfer work so once again I rely on the length of your beard to enlighten me;

It's April 1943, I started my campaign from the very beginning of the war with a sugar boat in Manila. I cheated a lot with Saving/Reloading games to practice approaches, targeting, etc... I got offered a Sargo and now the Gato class USS Drum. Anyhoo, right now my renown is exploding and I am packin' like Captain Harlock :arrgh!:!

Having said all this, I never used the transfer phone. Now I got 4 choices:

Staying in Brisbane as I always did with Task force 42/72
Be transfered at SUBPAC ????
Be transfered with Task force 3/51/71, patrolling the same area (West Pacific/south china sea)
Be transfered at HOLY LOCH, UK to patrol near the Biscay bay and the North sea from Aug42 to July43

I'm not sure what this all mean but what is even more confusing is whatever I choose I get the exact same patrol right after. What's going on here? What the heck is SUBPAC? a desk job?

Being transfered in Holy Loch, do I have to sail there after doing my patrol?
What is the difference being from one task force or another if I don't change port?

Any clarification will be welcome.

PS: I agree with Quillian's footer. That applies greatly and truthfully to all the modders hanging around here. What are we waiting for to create our own company and develop our own ideal sub simulation game?

you need to start your patrol then end it go back in base and you'll be at your new assignment.

Wow, I didn't think there was ever a problem getting a transfer as long as you're sitting in the office. I started out in Manila, lost the base to the enemy, picked up the Jawa base for the second (and third?) patrol, when I finished that one I knew we were going to lose that base as well so I picked up the phone in the office and got the Gato in Pearl.
In short, I thought all you have to do is pick up that telephone in the office (Of course, you don't know what you're going to get or where, THAT'S the catch!!)

Not sure how stock or other mods handle dates and boats at different bases, but TMO does it this way, as per the manual:

Brisbane command : (15Apr42 to 30Jan45) Standard flotilla based in Brisbane Australia. Patrols
the southwest pacific.
Submarine availability dates:
S-18 class: 1941 - 01Nov43
S-42 class: 1941 - 15Oct43
Narwhal class: N/A
Porpoise class: 01Jul42 - 1945
Salmon class: 01Jul42 - 1945
Sargo class: 01Jul42 – 1945
Tambor class: N/A
Gar class: 01Sept42 - 1945
Gato class: 01Nov42 - 1945
Balao class: 01Jul43 - 1945

Being I have a Tambor I haven't tried to transfer, but I missed the Solomons show. Trouble is, I rarely get to patrol the area from Brisbane Command. I usually get stuck going to patrol off Truk or Palau, and every now and then over by the western approaches to Rabaul on New Britain.

The one time I did get a patrol over in the Slot, I came upon a night engagement and our surface fleet was taking a pasting, so I snuck around behind the Jap surface fleet, and got in real close, and pasted a heavy cruiser, and a destroyer. Completely upset the Japanese plans that night!

The American surface fleet then gained the upper hand, and because of them shelling the Japanese destroyers and light cruisers, I was able to sneak off without so as getting pimged even once.
