I love the GWX mod, but im having problems. I dont think these problems are in the stock SH3 game, but i havent done hardcore testing on it either, so i may be wrong. I upgraded my laptop with a 128 mb video card from 64, and on the stock video card that came with my laptop, the game ran fine, and with GWX 1.01 it didnt have any problems. This is the first time ive played GWX with my new video card. Ok now that the background has been exposed, heres whats happenning. Everytime i call a gun crew to man the deck gun, the game suffers framerate slowdowns. And the weird thing is that its only limited to the gun, if i look away frame rates go back to normal, if i use the external view and go to the ship that im attacking, it works fine. But if i just look at the gun, everything goes south. Also the navigation map is laggy, if i zoom out a lot and then click and drag, the map stutters. same thing with the periscope. The stutter isnt as bad but its noticable. One last point of weirdness. The command room sometimes works fine, but sometimes it suffers inexplicable slowdowns. Anyway this is a all a big huge mystery to me. Id like to solve it so i can play again, hopefully with GWX 103. cause i really dont want to go back to stock, or 1.01. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000, with 2 gbs of ram and a 128 mb Mobility Radeon X300. I download GWX from file planet. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

and im not running anything in the background.
I've never heard of this one. I'm sure a seasoned GWX Dev member should be along soon to help.

You can try setting Aperture Size to 128Mb, in your BIOS.

Your cpu and RAM are fine but your graphics card is borderline IMO. I've recently installed the nvidia 7800 and take a similar frame hit (especially in port....harbour traffic GWX).
Sometimes scanning 360 degrees can raise the fps a little :arrgh!:

Apologies if this sounds "short." I'm dealing with multiple issues ATM.
GWX is set/designed to run best with "SH3 Recommended Specs" listed on the game box... or above. Though it will run on lesser systems... performance can become an issue in certain circumstances.
Gfx card is recommended to be 256mb. I see this as your weak link.
However, if you have not already done so, look in your JGSME "MODS" folder and enable "Harbor Traffic Light." Doing so should help you significanly... as well as avoiding high time compression.
I hope things improve for you. (Gosh I wish I could afford a laptop that would run SH3!!! :arrgh!: )
Of course my friends would hate me LOL.
EDIT: Please note... GW and GWX are significantly different animals... I thought that the only stuff we have on FilePlanet... was the copy that GameSpy uploaded after the GW 1.1a review. Can you verify that it is GWX that you have and not GW?

Im pretty sure that its GWX 1.03, the splash screen identifies itself as such.

I installed the old GW 1.1a mod instead and i hit the same slowdown problems, which is completely nuts. I also upgraded my drivers to catalyst 7.1. I do see a difference now with the new drivers. And when i leave port, in GWX 1.3, my framerates are acceptable, they dont really slow down much, and this is without the lite harbor traffic mod.
Now the crazy part is that in GW 1.1a, which ran fine with my 64 mb card (i now have a 128 mb version of the card), the game experiences a slow down if i look at a specific part of the boat. I can look everywhere but at this parts general direction. If i go to external, than i look back, only that section on the boat slow down, nothing else does. And the command room also turns into a slide show after a while. I thought it was drivers, but i installed catalyst 7.1 and the game ran better, but it still went through this problem. Im sure my computer can run GWX, i figure its gotta be something else.
Any ideas?
Does anyone know of a CPU monitoring program, i want to see how usage changes when the slowdown of doom happens, maybe theres a program thats acting up or something.

What part of the boat is it that causes the slowdown when you look at it ?

Last Time I played was the command room, and only the command room slows down. The radio room, conning tower, they both work fine

I have that problem occasionally. I find that if you minimize the game by hitting the windows key and then maximize again, the slowdown goes away. I'm running GWX 1.03 with the lite harbor traffic mod. HP desktop with 200 gig HD, 2 gigs RAM, P4 3.2 gig dual processors, and Radeon X300 PCIexpress with 128 Ram. I'm with Kpt. Lehmann on this one, I'm thinking the X300 gets choked up in certain situations, although it does a surprisingly good job most of the time for only being a 128.

It Worked. Sweet. It also helped upgrading the drivers from a 2005 version to catalyst 7.1. Stupid Dell. I had to download third party modded drivers to get the most up to date versions. Dell doesnt let you download ati or nvidia drivers from nvidia or ati.
But thanks, thanks a lot, i can go sink some british and american merchants now.
